Abstract: The present invention comprises a moment resisting connection that comprises a column connection, a girder connection, and a field weld that couples the column connection to the girder connection. The column connection includes a column and a pair of column side plates in which each column side plate is coupled to the flanges of the column. The girder connection comprises a girder and a pair of girder side plates in which each girder side plate is operatively coupled to a doubler plate that is coupled to each girder flange. Alternatively, each girder side plate is joined to each girder flange. The field weld is performed by positioning the girder connection so that it may be welded to the column connection. The present invention also teaches a method comprising the steps of welding each column side plate to the flanges of the column. Additionally, the steps of fixedly coupling each girder side plate to the flanges of the girder is described.

  • Patent number: 6353991
Abstract: The invention relates to a shaped part with a spigot for connecting to a tube, whereby the spigot contains a number of cavities arranged in the direction of the longitudinal axis thereof. The invention can be used in joining techniques especially in the area of automobile manufacturing, particularly windshield wiper assemblies. In preart windshield wiper assemblies, the connection between the spigot and the tube can detach during transmission of power or momentum. The invention prevents detaching of the connection between the spigot and the tube. To this end, the invention comprises two adjacent cavities each separated from one another by two catches. The catches extend perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the spigot resulting in a solid crimping in the area of the cavity. The invention also relates to a method for connecting the inventive shaped part to a tube.

The fastener is positioned with the lower end of one leg in contact with one of the workpieces and the lower end of the other leg in contact with the other workpiece, and the fastener is then forcibly driven into the respective workpieces by a driving element which acts upon the crown in a manner to attempt or tend to shorten the distance between the upper ends of the legs by bending the crown and countersinking the legs and/or crown into the workpieces.

Abstract: A timber beam hanger connects a first member, e.g. a horizontal or inclined beam, to a second member, e.g. a horizontal or inclined beam disposed perpendicularly or obliquely to the first beam, or a vertical post or wall. The beam hanger comprises a generally vertical web, an upper flange extending from an upper edge of the web, a seat extending from a lower edge of the web and a connector. The upper flange and seat are usually rectangular and disposed parallel to each other and normally to the web. The upper flange is secured to an upper face of the first member, and the connector cooperates with the upper flange and is secured to the second member. A joint face of the first member has a generally vertical slit intersecting the upper face and receiving the web therein. For some embodiments the joint face also has a generally horizontal slit intersected by the vertical slit at a position remote from the upper face and receiving the seat therein.

Abstract: An improved joint construction for commercial metal doors is disclosed which utilizes a novel force transfer block. The force transfer block has spaced-apart flanges which engage corresponding reglets in a door stile. The inner faces of the flanges bear against the inner walls of the reglets. The flanges of the force transfer block are configured such that they will retain the block on the stile by way of an interference fit with the walls of the reglet. Thus the block does not have to be separately fastened to the stile. A rail abuts the stile and has a recessed portion into which the block is received. A threaded rod extends through the rail and into the stile, and tightening a threaded fastener onto each end of the rod clamps the rail securely between two stiles. The recessed portion of the rail has surfaces bearing snugly against at least two sides of the block such that twisting forces applied to the rail are transferred to the block.
