Screw Extending Perpendicular To Tool-axis Patents (Class 408/181)
  • Patent number: 5807037
Abstract: A tool head, in particular a fine adjustment head for use in machine-tools, may be coupled to a rotary machine spindle (26) and has a slide (16) that may be adjusted transversely to the axis (12) of the base body and is provided with a projecting tool-receiving part (14) on its front face. A measurement arrangement (18) is provided for directly measuring the adjustment path of the slide (16) in relation to the base body (10). The tool head further has an adjustment motor (20) that acts on the slide (16) in the direction of adjustment and an external current supply arrangement (22) for electronic components integrated into the tool head and for the adjustment motor (20). In order to obtain a compact design with high adjustment precision, the adjustment motor (20) is arranged with its cylindrical housing (45) in a recess (46) of the base body (10) that extends transversely to the direction of adjustment of the slide (45) and to the axis of the base body.

  • Patent number: 5709510
Abstract: A clamp for indexable inserts used especially for turning. The clamp consists essentially of a clamp shaft and a clamp head combined with it in one piece. The clamp shaft can be secured to an axis-parallel clamping surface of a tool holder by a supporting surface obliquely transfixed by a clamping screw. The clamp head has an open-edged recess to take the indexable insert, one effective cutting corner of which projects on one side beyond the outer surface away from the support surface. In order to be able to adjust the distance between the clamping surface and the cutting corner, the clamp head has, in the free region between the recess, the supporting surface and the clamp shaft, a slot-like aperture having a curved cross-sectional shape open towards the clamp shaft. The clamp head can be elastically bent with respect to the clamp shaft under the effect of an adjuster.

Abstract: A machining tool for the fine machining of internal surfaces, with a blade carrier and cutting inserts preferably attached releasably thereto. An adjusting device for the precision adjustment of the cutting edge is provided. The blade carrier has at least one slit located closer to the longitudinal axis of the machining tool than is the cutting insert, thus creating a blade carrier segment which can be essentially radially adjusted and which carries the cutting insert and which is connected in one piece with the remaining blade carrier. The degree of freedom of the blade carrier segment permitted by the slit can be stabilized via adjusting device.

Abstract: In known tool holders only a single screw is used to compensate for axiality faults which exist. It is true that this is a simple construction, but it is not adequate for sensitive compensation of axiality faults requiring attention, particularly in fine drilling. According to the invention this is achieved in the case of the invention by using a tangential tension screw 73 to move towards one another the two sectors 78, 79 of a compensator ring 13, so that the adapter 14 can be sensitively moved into a position in which the geometrical longitudinal axis 17 of the tool 93 becomes coaxial to the spindle axis.

Abstract: A tool kit is provided for repairing the snap ring grooves of a cam follower bore in a diesel engine cylinder head without removing the cylinder head from the cylinder block. The tool kit includes a cutting tool which will both enlarge the cam follower bore to allow the use of an oversized spring retainer and cut an enlarged snap ring groove to allow the use of a more substantial plate-type snap ring. A snap ring installation tool allows for easy placement of the snap ring in the cam follower bore. A concentric wrench having concentric yet independently movable sockets for quick valve and fuel injector clearance adjustment is included.

Abstract: A tool holder with radial adjustment means. The tool holder has a connecting portion having a connecting shank, an intermediate portion and a head portion, and a tool receiving means for a tool, in particular a rotary tool. All three portions (2, 3, 4) are of substantially disc-like configuration and bear against each other with their faces (2a, 3a, 3b, 4a) which extend radially with respect to the axis (A) of the connecting shank. Provided at the periphery of the connecting portion (2) are two diametrally oppositely disposed recesses (8) into which two claws (9) arranged on the intermediate portion engage with radial play. Provided at the periphery of the intermediate portion (3) are two diametrally oppositely disposed recesses (14) which are displaced through 90.degree. relative to the claws (9) and into which two claws (15) disposed on the head portion (4) engage with radial play.

  • Patent number: 4599769
Abstract: A machine tool (10) with a rotating cutting tool (24) has a spindle assembly (20,48) mounted for rotation in a longitudinally movable headstock (18). The spindle assembly includes a spindle (48), driven by a motor (50) and an integral machining head (20) having a rotatably mounted drive screw (62). The drive screw carries a radially positionable follower (72) to which is connected a tool block (22) to define a radial slide for supporting the cutting tool. A drive shaft (82) extending through the spindle is in driving engagement with the drive screw such that rotation of the drive shaft relative to the spindle produces rotation of the drive screw and consequential radial movement of the follower and tool block. A motor (76) mounted on the spindle for rotation with the spindle is connected to the drive shaft for rotating it either a clockwise or counterclockwise sense to produce radial movement of the follower and tool block.

Abstract: A circular cutter 10 has a drive shaft 11 that turns a beam 30 bearing one or two cutter knives 50 rotated within a drum 20 mounted on shaft 11 to surround beam 30. A pressure shoe 25 on the bottom of drum 20 has a central opening 26 within which cutter knives 50 can turn, and drum 20 is biased downward relative to shaft 11 and beam 30 so that pressure shoe 25 engages and holds a work piece 60 as it is cut. Pressure shoe 25 is preferably interchangeable to afford different sizes of central openings 26 for different radii of cuts, knives 50 are preferably radially adjustable along beam 30, and drum 20 is preferably transparent to serve as a guard that the user can see through.

  • Patent number: 4576068
Abstract: A cam-controlled boring bar system (100) includes a first housing (152) which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis (154), and a second housing in the form of a cam-controlled slide (158) which is also rotatable about the axis (154) as well as being translatable therealong. A tool-holder (180) is mounted within the slide (158) for holding a single point cutting tool. Slide (158) has a rectangular configuration and is disposed within a rectangularly configured portion of the first housing (152). Arcuate cam slots (192) are defined within a side plate (172) of the housing (152), while cam followers (194) are mounted upon the cam slide (158) for cooperative engagement with the cam slots (192). In this manner, as the housing (152) and slide (158) rotate, and as the slide (158) also translates, a through-bore (14) having an hourglass configuration will be formed within a workpiece (16) which may be, for example, a nuclear reactor steam generator tube support plate.
