  • Patent number: 6829871
Abstract: An expansion wedge anchor (80) for insertion in a hole (H) delimited by a wall comprises an expander member (32) and an expansion number (34), the expander member being provided at a leading end of the expander member, the expander member comprising a flaring end (40), the expansion member being expandable at a trailing end (48) thereof and being adapted to engage the wall of the hole when the expander member is positioned in the hole, wherein upon longitudinal withdrawal of the expander member from the hole, the expander member displaces longitudinally relative to the expansion member with the flaring end thereof gradually causing the trailing end of the expansion member to expand, whereby a trailing edge of the expansion member engages the wall of the hole. The trailing end is adapted, when expanded by the flaring member, to extend at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of said expander member.

  • Patent number: 5846041
Abstract: An expandable anchor assembly is provided for anchoring the threaded end portion of an elongated roof bolt in a borehole. The anchoring assembly includes a hollow outer sleeve in the form of a plurality of symmetrically arranged, longitudinal segmented wall portions with exterior gripping teeth and an inner expander sleeve in the form of a corresponding plurality of longitudinal wall portions symmetrically arranged about a central axis to define an inner threaded cylindrical section. The inner sleeve is captured within and moveable axially relative to the outer sleeve. As the threaded end portion of the elongated bolt is inserted into the inner threaded cylindrical section of the inner sleeve from the trailing end to the leading end thereof, the inner sleeve expands over and clamps around the threaded end portion of the elongated bolt.

  • Patent number: 5249897
Abstract: An expanding plug comprises in usual manner an expanding sleeve, an expanding screw and an expanding cone which serves to expand the expanding sleeve and which can be pulled into the expanding sleeve by means of the expanding screw. So as to reduce the material need for the expanding cone and the manufacturing expenditure, the expanding cone is bent from metal sheet. Its edge surfaces of its wall limiting a joint gap extend in the direction to the central longitudinal axis and tangentially to the latter bear unconnected and flush against each other. The expanding cone formed with relatively thick walls comprises hardened surface regions and an unhardened basic region.

  • Patent number: 4799841
Abstract: A dowel-like device is described for locating a component (1) having a through-bore (33) relative to a reference part (2) provided with a bore (34), the through-bore and the bore having the same inside width. In order for the dowel to permit an accurate, repeatable positioning of the component on the reference part without loss of precision, it is provided with a cylindrical bushing (3), which is elastic in a radial direction at least over part of its length and is internally conical. A rotatable bolt (9) extending axially into the conical bushing section (4) is locked against movement in the axial direction and cooperates with a cone member (7) which extends into the conical bushing section, so that upon rotation of the bolt, the cone member moves axially, causing its exterior surface to push outwardly against the bushing. This expands the bushing into firm contact with the wall of the bores in the component and the reference part.

  • Patent number: 4789284
Abstract: The present invention relates to expansison anchors for solid wall installation and is specifically concerned with providing a self cutting expansion anchor which can be installed in one continuous motion by utilizing combined cutting blades and wall gripping members which cut their own undercut portion within a wall bore into which the gripping members are then permanently further expanded in positive locking engagement. Such dual-stage installation is achieved by utilizing an anchor mounting assembly having a pair or opposite-hand screw-threaded portions thereon which separately mount a blade expanding thrust member and a camming ramp on which the blades are initially expanded by axial movement of the thrust member toward the ramp and in the second stage causing the ramp to axially move toward the thrust member in further expanding relation to the blades.

  • Patent number: 4770581
Abstract: A unitary thick walled spacer S supports an anchor rod (15) for engagement in an expansion body (6). The tubular spacer S has a first part P of greater diameter than its remaining part P', with the part P' in slide fit engagement in the expansion sleeve (1), and the part P abutting, at its free end, a washer (17) and the head of the anchor rod (15). An annular rim M formed between the parts P and P' of the spacer S, is arranged, prior to use, a distance X from the expansion sleeve (1). As clamping down is performed in a receiving socket, the spacer part P' slides inside the expansion sleeve so progressively closing the gap X. The arrangement is so designed that in any particular application, the rim M at most just barely comes into contact with the expansion sleeve (1) so avoiding uselessly and detrimentally loading the spacer S.

  • Patent number: 4650384
Abstract: An expansion anchor for mounting in a receiving socket in base material to enable an object to be clamped thereto. The anchor comprises a longitudinally split tubular sleeve (1) to which an internally threaded expansion body (6) is retained by means of lugs (10) thereof engaging slots (2,3,11) in the body of the sleeve (1). The slots (2,3,11) are provided to permit the tubular sleeve (1) to expand into gripping contact with the receiving socket as the expansion body (6) is drawn axially within the sleeve (1) by a threaded anchor rod (15). The sleeve (1) is provided with support means (8,12,13,14) for the anchor rod (15) when in engagement with the expansion body (6). The support means (12,13,14) constitute telescopic spacer elments between the head of the anchor rod (15) and the tubular sleeve (1) which allow free relative movement between the expansion body (6) and the head of the anchor rod (15) until the anchor is set in the receiving socket.

  • Patent number: 4353673
Abstract: There is disclosed a wall anchor structure having a hollow body in which spaced ribs extend from a flanged portion at one end to a sleeve in which an axially movable nut element is captured. A bolt extends through the body from the flanged end to threadedly engage the nut. With the bolt head abutting the flange, the structure is struck or otherwise inserted through a dry wall or wallboard to bring the flange flush against the inner surface of the wall. The bolt, being slidable, is grasped at the head and pulled out to separate the head from the flange an amount permitted by the axial travel of the nut. This permits the jaws of an anchor operating tool to be inserted between the head and flange, and forced apart to forcibly separate the head and flange further, causing the ribs to deform so as to bite into and interlock with the wall material. The bolt is then threaded out of the nut and removed to permit a bracket or other support member for shelving or the like to be seated against the flange.
