  • Patent number: 11661221
Abstract: A system for evacuating and sealing containers filled with product, for example, food product, includes an enclosed, sealed housing wherein the pressure level and the atmospheric content can be controlled. A vacuum shroud is positioned in registry with a container entrance opening in the housing, the shroud connectible to a vacuum source and to a source of replaceable gas to replace the ambient air to be removed from the container. The shroud is advanceable to seal the container entrance opening and is retractable from the container entrance opening. A container transport system inserts the container through the housing entrance opening and into the shroud. Thereupon, a sealing system seals the housing from the ambient after the container has been inserted into the shroud. After the air in the container has been replaced with an inert gas and then the shroud retracted, a closure subsystem applies a cover to the evacuated container.

  • Patent number: 8939695
Abstract: A metal end is applied and sealed to a plastic or paper/plastic composite container body by a crimp-seaming or double-seaming operation. The metal end has an outer curl joined to a compound-angle chuck wall that extends down from the curl. The chuck wall has an upper part that is substantially linear and at an angle ?1 with respect to an axis of the end, and a lower part that is substantially linear and at a larger angle ?2 with respect to the axis. The compound-angle chuck wall allows a substantial diametral clearance between a lower end of the lower part of the chuck wall and the inner surface of the container body, while there is substantially zero clearance, or preferably an interference fit, between the upper part of the chuck wall and the inner surface of the container body. Accordingly, the chuck wall guides the end into concentric alignment with the container body during application.

A product chamber and a propellant chamber are formed separately fluid-tight from each other by a flexible diaphragm in the housing. The product chamber can be charged with a product which can be release through said valve. The propellant chamber can be charged, on the other hand, with a compressed propellant. The product chamber communicates with the product-release opening. At least one end of a blank is left open to constitute subsequently the housing. The diaphragm is inserted into the blank through the open end, and the blank then is formed into the housing. An edge of the open end of the blank is reformed to narrow it into an integral mouthpiece that accommodates the product-release opening.

Abstract: Sealant is applied onto or into a folded-seam closure of a metal can. Instead of introducing sealant into the U-shaped lid flange and drying, according to the invention the compound or sealant is applied to the base flange, the base of the metal can being dipped into a current of fluid sealant or at least brought into contact with it at the surface. This substantially improves the precision of dosing and the exact amount of applied sealant.

The central panel is centered about a longitudinal axis and has a substantially planar peripheral edge. The curl defines an outer perimeter of the end member. The circumferential chuckwall extends downwardly from the curl to the transition wall. The transition wall connects the chuck wall with the substantially planar peripheral edge of the central panel. The transition wall has a folded portion extending outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 5947673
Abstract: An improvement in the shape of a fold in a tin can allows the use of sheet metal of lower gauge than that currently used. This is achieved with a fold geometry on a tin can which is closed off with a double fold, such as for a drink or food tin; by providing a continuous or stepped contour on the fold side; and by insuring that the lid hook is clearly in area-contact (positive fit) on its outer side with the free end of the body hook in its lower third. The invention may be applied to standard-gauge as well as thinner-gauge sheet metal, and generally results in a better seal.

  • Patent number: 5676512
Abstract: An aerosol container cover having a central opening for a nozzle and an outer edge adapted for sealing attachment to the open end of an aerosol container body. The aerosol container cover being of a relatively thin walled metal and having a wall thickness in the range of 0.005 to 0.013 inch (0.127 to 0.330 mm) if the metal is steel, and being 0.005 to 0.018 inch (0.127 to 0.457 mm) in wall thickness if the metal is aluminum. The cover is thinner walled than would prevent distortion or eversion of the cover at government mandated minimum pressure levels in the aerosol container. The cover is of a generally convex dome shape as it extends from its outer edge to the central opening, and being free of any countersunk recess in the vicinity of its outer edge. In a method of making the aerosol container cover, the cover is attached to a container body by conventional seaming processing.

  • Patent number: 5499438
Abstract: A pallet container (1) for liquids has a replaceable inner container (2) made of sheet metal, an outer jacket (6) made of latticework, as well as a pallet (9)in the form of a bottom tray (10), which receives the bottom (16) of the inner container. The inner container (2)is made of sheet steel, preferably constructed as a double-walled structure, and is welded together from a jacket (11), a bottom part (12) and a cover (13). For the production of the inner container, a rectangular sheet-metal blank is bent to form a pipe element, whose mating edges are welded lengthwise. The pipe element is stretched to form a jacket of rectangular cross section. Then, a peripheral bead with a V-shaped cross section in each of the two end areas of the jacket is formed at a distance from its edges, which then are cut. Then, the deep-drawn, tray-shaped bottom part with a rounded edge is superposed or joined exactly to the outer sides of one bead of the jacket and the bottom part is attached to the jacket.

Abstract: The present invention refers to a can seaming process, through which it is possible to produce cans by seaming (fixing) tops and ends to bodies of cans by micro-seaming process. This process provides the use of materials with 0.16 mm thickness or less, with a high hardness DR8 or DR9 for making tops and ends. As a result of the micro-seaming process a significant reduction of dimensions has been obtained on the cover and body hooks and in the length of the seam, without changing volumetric capacity of the can.
