Mold Having Movable Core Or Movable Pin Patents (Class 425/577)
  • Patent number: 5639487
Abstract: A transducer for measuring the amount of lateral deflection taking place at the tip of a core-pin inside a mold or die cavity. Non-uniform cavity pressure and cooling patterns make core-pins prone to deflection resulting in out-of-tolerance thin and thick wall sections of the finished part. The transducer provides a means of determining deflection as it occurs during the molding process for statistical quality control. Real time measurement of the core deflection allows discrimination of unacceptable and reject parts for an automatic part sorting process. In the preferred embodiment a plurality of strain gauges mounted on the core-pin outside of the mold cavity provide real time electric signals of lateral deflection that can be used to automatically segregate reject parts and provide for statistical process control.

  • Patent number: 5637327
Abstract: There is disclosed a mold for molding a box-shaped product which is open at one side face thereof, and has a resilient insert extending into an interior of the product through a side face of the product opposite to the opening. The insert has a convex portion formed on one surface thereof. A mold cavity is defined by a pair of metal mold halves and a pair of slide cores. The mold halves form an outer shape of the product, and the slide cores form an inner shape of the product. One of the slide cores has a recess for receiving the convex portion of the insert. In the molding, after a resin is cured, the other slide core is retracted before the metal mold halves are opened apart from each other, and then the one slide core with the recess is retracted.

Abstract: A method for stripping an open ended bellows part from an injection mold has as a first step the injection molding of a bellows part. The bellows part has a resilient portion located between a core pin and a first split cavity and a substantially rigid portion located between the core pin and a second cavity. The substantially rigid portion has a first open end and an external undercut portion, and the resilient portion of the bellows part has an inner surface and a second open end. The first split cavity opens laterally to permit the resilient portion of the bellows part to be stripped from the core pin. Compressed gas passes through the core pin to the inner surface of the resilient portion of the bellows part while both open ends of the bellows part are closed off by the second cavity and the core pin.

  • Patent number: 5447674
Abstract: A mold core for use in a two-component injection molding method is presented, in particular for two-component injection molding of plastic closures for bottles and similar containers. The invention solves the problem that integral mold cores, due to the configuration of the first molding, are only difficultly or not at all displaceable by a predetermined amount from the first molding, to form an intermediate space or second cavity for the injection of a second molding. The invention accounts for this in that the mold core consists of first and second sub-cores or tool elements and that one sub-core or tool element, after injecting the first substance, is displaceable by a predetermined amount relative to the first molding. After the second substance has been injected into the created intermediate space to form the second molding, a central tool element of the mold core is used as an ejector to support the deforming of the closure from the mold core.
