Abstract: A clamping apparatus is operable in a closure position detection mode for detecting closure of a mold on the basis of a change in a physical quantity because of closure of the mold, detecting a position of a crosshead of a toggle mechanism at the time of detection of the closure, and obtaining a closure position of a movable platen at the time of the closure from the detected position of the crosshead. The apparatus is previously operated in the closure position detection mode to store, as a reference value, the closure position at which a target mold clamping force is obtained. In the production operation, the apparatus is operated in the closure position detection mode to obtain an actual closure position (detection value). The mold clamping force is corrected on the basis of a deviation of the detection value from the reference value.

The method includes the steps of previously setting, as a reference position, a closed position of a movable platen at which a target mold clamping force is obtained; setting an end position of the mold protection zone with respect to the reference position; obtaining, during a production operation, an actual closed position (detected position) of the movable platen; and correcting the end position of the mold protection zone on the basis of a deviation between the detected position and the reference position.

  • Patent number: 7182590
Abstract: A toggle type mold clamping mechanism for preventing the degradation of parallelism between stationary and movable platens, which is caused due to a clearance between a pin and a bushing, with use of a simple construction. A mold clamping force acting on the pin is transmitted through the bushing to a link L1, thereby moving the movable platen to perform mold clamping. A pre-pressure exerting in the same direction as the direction of a mold clamping force generated at the time of mold clamping is applied by a spring or the like to move the pin toward the link L1. Even a mold opening force is exerted at the time of mold opening, the pre-pressure c provided by the spring or the like keeps the position of the clearance ? between the pin and the bushing unchanged. Since the link L1 pulled by the spring or the like is moved to follow the pin (so that the pin is not moved alone by an amount of clearance ?), the parallelism between the stationary and movable platen is not degraded.

In a foreign matter detection region where a mold opening/closing servo-motor is subjected to speed feedback control during a mold closing process, a measured torque value of the mold opening/closing servo-motor is compared with a standard torque characteristic curve with no foreign matter between dies. Between a start position of the foreign matter detection region and a position of the foreign matter detection region in which a torque value is zero in the standard torque characteristic curve, it is concluded that there is a foreign matter between the dies when the measured torque is lower than the standard torque characteristic curve by a predetermined value or more.
