  • Patent number: 4938682
Abstract: A mold clamping apparatus of an injection molding machine is provided, which is capable of uniformly applying a pressing force to a movable platen. A pair of annular wedge type connection members (21, 22) are disposed within annular hollow portions (16a) of driving pulleys (16), which are respectively fitted on ball screws (14, 15) threadedly engaged with heads of upper and lower toggle sections disposed symmetrically with respect to an axis of the mold clamping apparatus. To make an adjustment for eliminating mismatch between operational phases of the toggle sections of the toggle mechanism due to flexure of the same mechanism, an urged contact state of the connection member is released by loosening bolts (23), and the ball screws, rendered to be rotatable relative to the driving pulleys, are manually rotated so that the heads are aligned with each other. After completion of the adjustment, the driving pulleys are again rendered rotatable in unison with the ball screws.

  • Patent number: 4900242
Abstract: Apparatus for injection compression molding of thermoplastic parts. A preferred apparatus (100) includes a platen assembly 106, a toggle clamp assembly 102, a screw injection assembly 101, a hydraulic system suitable for providing power to the toggle clamp assembly 102 and the screw injection assembly 101, and a control system 88 for operatively controlling the various hydraulic devices associated with the molding apparatus. The platen assembly 106 provides for a plurality of variable-volume mold cavities 7. In one embodiment, enlarged mold cavities 7 receive plasticized resin from the screw injection assembly 101, and compression of the injected resin is provided by the toggle clamp assembly 102. In another embodiment, the platen assembly 106 includes a floating die assembly wherein pressure created by injected resin causes die inserts 5 and support pillars 15 to slide relative to a molding plate 74. Compression in this embodiment is also preferably provided by the main toggle clamp assembly 102.

  • Patent number: 4869659
Abstract: A toggle-type die-fastening apparatus has a movable platen that carries one mold part and is supported by and guided along a plurality of tie bars whose one ends are fixed to a fixed platen on which another mold part is mounted. The other ends of the tie bars are supported by a toggle support, and a toggle mechanism is disposed between the toggle support and the movable platen for pressing the mold part carried by the movable platen against the mold part mounted on the fixed platen. A die-fastening force adjusting nut is threaded onto the end portion of each tie bar that is closer to the toggle support so as to bear the reaction of the die-fastening force generated by the toggle mechanism. An adjusting cylinder is formed in this portion, and it is connected to a hydraulic circuit so that the pressure within each of the cylinders is controlled by a pressure adjusting valve in such a manner as to correspond to a die-fastening force set by a setting device.

  • Patent number: 4832884
Abstract: When the mold of plastic injection molding machine is locked, the closing force (K) is measured at the knuckle joint system during a predetermined number of operating cycles (Z). A mean value is computed from these actual value measurements (Si) and if it is within a predetermined tolerance zone (T) around a set-point value (So), no control intervention takes place. But if this mean value is outside of the tolerance zone (T) but in a control zone (R) limited by alarm limits (A), a control intervention takes place by stepwise changing the installed height of the mold until the actual value measured after each operating cycle is again within the tolerance zone (T). The measurement is repeated over another operating period (B); if those measurements stay within the control zone (R), a new mean value is computed only at the end of this operating period and a corresponding decision is made whether or not a control intervention should take place.

  • Patent number: 4685876
Abstract: The mold clamping force exerted in a toggle plastic injection molding machine is measured by determining the amount the tie rods stretch. A link is clamped on a lower tie rod near the backing platen and supports a contact that is adjustable in the direction of tie rod stretch. The contact in turn engages a probe portion of a sensor that is secured to the machine base. The contact, hence the sensor probe, move the amount that the tie rod stretches at the point of clamping. The motion is directly proportional to clamping force which latter can then be adjusted by operating the adjusting nut drive motor a suitable amount.

  • Patent number: 4088432
Abstract: An injection molding machine has two stationary platens interconnected by tie bars and an immediate third platen which is movable on the tie bars. Separable mold portions are mounted respectively on one of the stationary platens and the third platen so that reciprocating movement of the third platen along the tie bars opens and closes the mold portions. A pair of toggle linkage mechanisms positioned at opposite sides of the machine and connecting with the movable third platen and one of the other platens are used to lockup the mold portions when the linkages assume their toggle positions. To move the toggle mechanisms into the toggle positions, a crosshead on slide rods connects with the mechanisms and is pushed away from the third platen at lockup by two piston and cylinder assemblies extending between the platen and the crosshead. The positioning of the cylinders and crosshead minimizes the overall length of the molding machine and permits mold lockup to be triggered more accurately.
