Abstract: A process for manufacturing a device adapted for exposure to high temperatures. A support structure for retaining a ceramic insulating material on a substrate is formed by the deposition of a support structure material through a patterned masking material. The support structure can define cells into which the ceramic insulating material is deposited following removal of the masking material. The support structure may be a composite metal-ceramic material having either discreet layers or a graded composition deposited by an electro-deposition process followed by a heat treatment to form a solid state diffusion bond with the substrate. The ceramic filler material may be deposited by the electrophoretic deposition of ceramic particles coated with a bonding material that is subsequently heated to oxidize and to bond the particles together. The support structure may be formed with inclined walls in order to improve its resistance to foreign object impact damage.
Abstract: Sand casting is an old art. In this molding process sand is compacted around a pattern and the pattern is removed, leaving a mold cavity the shape of the pattern. A pattern coating composition is disclosed wherein the composition is an emulsion including oil, water, graphite, a water dispersible amine, and a clay reactive with the amine to form an organophylic clay.

Abstract: A novel on-line method is presented for the extraction and preconcentration of amino acids using a sol-gel coated column coupled to a conventional UV/vis detector. Extraction, stacking and focusing techniques are used in the preconcentration procedures. Sol-gel coatings are created by using N-Octadecyldimethyl[3(trimethoxysilyl)proply] ammonium chloride (C18-TMS) in the coating sol solutions. The resulting sol-gel coating carries a positive charge. For extraction, the pH of the samples is properly adjusted to impart a net negative charge to amino acids. A long plug of the sample is then passed through the sol-gel coated capillary to facilitate extraction via electrostatic interaction between the positively charged sol-gel coating and the negatively charged amino acid molecules. The focusing of the extracted amino acids is accomplished through desorption of the extracted amino acid molecules carried out by local pH change. The described procedure provides 150,000-fold enrichment effect for alanine.

Abstract: The process permits to strengthen a lever made of ceramic material. Ceramics is strong, but brittle, thus, in the course of lever operation it may undergo external mechanical forces, such as sudden impact, that generally cause cracks and spalling. After such damage ceramic pieces may separate from the ceramic support. The utility proposes to strengthen a ceramic lever with a special glue coating made of one of series of thermoplastic glue melts and applied to the internal surface of ceramic lever cavity. The solution has as its object to improve a ceramic lever strengthening process comprising application of glue coating made of a series of thermoplastic glue melts to the internal surface of a ceramic lever cavity according to which the glue coating undergoes thermal treatment at between about 80° C. and 180° C. before application to the internal surface of ceramic lever cavity.
