Abstract: A clog-resistant injector spray nozzle allows relatively unobtrusive insertion through a small access aperture into existing ductwork in occupied buildings for atomized particulate sealing of a ductwork. The spray nozzle comprises an easily cleaned and easily replaced straight liquid tube whose liquid contents are principally propelled by a heated propellant gas, such as heated air. Heat transfer is minimized from the heated propellant gas to the liquid tube until they both exit the injector, thereby greatly reducing the likelihood of nozzle clogging. A method of duct sealing using particles driven by heated propellant gas is described, whereby duct-sealing operations become both faster, and commercially practicable in inhabited commercial and residential buildings.

Abstract: A pipeline cleaning and renovating method of the present invention comprises introduction of abrasive particulates by pressurized air through the pipelines to remove the incrustation adhering to the inner surface of the pipelines. Water or other liquids are introduced into the pipelines to generate or increase a moisture content in a flow of the pressurized air. The air flow through the pipelines is controlled to induce a substantially helical flow pattern such that a substantial amount of abrasive particulates are driven by the air flow to move along the inner surface of the pipeline in order to efficiently remove the incrustation. After the pipelines are cleaned, a coating material is added into the pipelines and driven by the air flow in the substantially helical flow pattern to provide an even coating film on the cleaned inner surface of the pipelines. This method can be broadly applied to various types of pipelines and various diameters of the pipelines from 13 mm to 300 mm.

The process comprises: a) vertically aligning the cylinder axis of the carrier structure and filling the empty volume of the channels up to a predetermined height H1 starting from the lower end face, b) removing the excess coating suspension through the lower end face of the carrier structure down to the target take-up, c) turning the carrier structure 180°, so that the upper and lower end faces are exchanged one for the other, and d) repeating steps a) and b), wherein the height H2, up to which the channels are filled in this case is given by H2=L−x·H1 where x is between 0.8 and 1.0.

Abstract: A method of applying a coating, such as a substantially waterproof coating, to a wood surface using a collapsing foam coating material. The material is initially sprayed onto a recessed wood surface, whereupon the resin material foams and collapses over a relatively short period of time into a film coating or layer that penetrates and seals the wood surface. A delivery system for applying the coating is also disclosed.

Abstract: Concrete materials are impregnated with liquids which harden within concrete pores and microcracks, and develop a sharp contrast with the body of concrete in microscopic images. The impregnation process involves vacuum application to remove air from concrete pores and microcracks, followed by the introduction of liquids under pressure. The sharp contrast between the impregnated (and hardened) liquid and the body of concrete facilitates distinction of pores and microcracks in microscopic images for the purpose of automated image analysis.

Abstract: An improved shaft is described with which a sponge saturated with carbon coating can be pushed through the narrow neck of a cathode ray tube funnel to fully coat the interior of the neck with the carbon coating. The improved shaft is made of a plastic composite material. The preferred material for the improved shaft is garolite. This improved shaft is much less expensive that previous stainless steel shafts and has enough flexibility that it is not easily bent when plunged into a funnel that is not properly aligned and centered under the shaft.

Abstract: An internal passage of an article such as a gas turbine airfoil is coated with an aluminum-containing coating. To accomplish this coating process, a coating slurry of a mixture of a carrier component of water and a hectorite clay or a bentonite clay, together with a solids component of a source of aluminum, a halide activator, and an oxide dispersant, is prepared. The coating slurry is applied to the internal passage of the gas turbine airfoil and dried. The gas turbine airfoil and the applied coating slurry are heated to form an aluminum-containing coating bonded to the internal passage of the gas turbine airfoil. Excess coating material is removed from the article internal passage.
