Metallic Compound-containing Coating Patents (Class 427/419.1)
  • Patent number: 7632572
Abstract: A low-emissivity multilayer coating includes, in order outward from the substrate, a first layer including a layer containing titanium oxide, a layer containing silicon nitride, or a sublayer layer containing titanium oxide in combination with a sublayer containing silicon nitride; a second layer including Ag; a third layer including at least one layer selected from titanium oxide layers and silicon nitride layers; a fourth layer including Ag; and a fifth layer including silicon nitride. The color of the coatings can be varied over a wide range by controlling the thicknesses of the layers of titanium oxide, silicon nitride and Ag. A diffusion barrier of oxidized metal protects relatively thin, high electrical conductivity, pinhole free Ag films grown preferentially on zinc oxide substrates. Oxygen and/or nitrogen in the Ag films improves the thermal and mechanical stability of the Ag.

  • Patent number: 7612015
Abstract: A photocatalyst layer (TiO2) is formed on the surface of a substrate (glass plate) through the intermediary of a monoclinic undercoat layer (ZrO2), and no dead layer is substantially present between the photocatalyst layer and the undercoat layer. Also, by providing a peel preventing layer between the substrate and the undercoat layer, it is possible to eliminate film peeling between the photocatalyst layer and the substrate, defects and discoloration. A metal element may be doped in the photocatalyst layer, and it is preferable that the metal element is at least one of Sn, Zn, Mo and Fe. The phrase “no dead layer is substantially present” means that the thickness of the dead layer is 20 nm or less. The thickness of the photocatalyst layer is preferably from 1 nm to 1,000 nm, more preferably from 1 nm to 500 nm.

  • Patent number: 7588797
Abstract: A chemical composition and method for repairing a thermal barrier coating on a component designed for use in a hostile thermal environment, such as turbine, combustor and augmentor components of a gas turbine engine. The method repairs a thermal barrier coating on a component that has suffered localized damage to the thermal barrier coating. After cleaning the surface area of the component exposed by the localized spallation, a paste-like mixture of a ceramic composition comprising ceramic powders and nano-sized ceramic materials in a binder is applied to the surface area of the component, and is optionally smoothed using mechanical means. The composition is then allowed to dry and cure to form a dried coating having polymeric characteristics. Upon subsequent heating, the dried coating reacts to produce a glassy ceramic repair coating.

  • Patent number: 7544392
Abstract: A film of aluminum 2 is formed on a glass substrate (BK7) 1 by vacuum evaporation, and a multilayer optical thin film 3 is formed by an ion sputtering method on this aluminum film 2. Afterwards, such a member is cut into small pieces by means of dicing, and the aluminum 2 is then etched by a sodium hydroxide solution, so that the glass substrate 1 and the multilayer optical thin film 3 are separated. When the aluminum thickness exceeds 90 nm, clouding occurs in the multilayer optical thin film 3, and when the aluminum thickness is less than 10 nm, the separation of the glass substrate and multilayer optical thin film cannot be performed cleanly. Accordingly, the aluminum thickness is set in a range of 10 to 90 nm.

  • Patent number: 7397183
Abstract: A composite article comprises a substrate having at least a substrate surface and a graded-composition coating disposed on a substrate surface. The composition of the coating material varies substantially continuously across its thickness. The coating reduces the transmission rates of oxygen, water vapor, and other chemical species through the substrate such that the composite article can be used effectively as a diffusion barrier to protect chemically sensitive devices or materials. An organic light-emitting device incorporates such a composite article to provide an extended life thereto.

Abstract: A microcantilever sensor for targeted analyte detection can generally comprise a microcantilever having a base and a beam, a metallic coating disposed substantially only on a first surface of a distal-most end of the beam, and a receptor compound immobilized to the metallic coating wherein the receptor compound can have substantially exclusive binding interaction with the analyte. The receptor compound can be a thiol-terminated bifunctional compound having a receptor site with specific binding affinity for the analyte, for example, an isolated Fab? fragment. The metallic coating can be a noble metal and/or a semi-noble metal, such as a bilayer of chromium and gold. The metallic coating can be applied to the microcantilever surface by electron-beam lithography.

  • Patent number: 7390536
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for fabricating a composite gas separation module and to gas separation modules formed by the method. In one embodiment, the method for fabricating a composite gas separation module includes depositing a first material on a porous substrate, thereby forming a coated substrate. The coated substrate is abraded, thereby forming a polished substrate. A second material is then deposited on the polished substrate. The first material, the second material, or both the first material and the second material can include a gas-selective material such as a hydrogen-selective metal, e.g., palladium, or an alloy thereof. In one embodiment, the method includes the step of forming a dense gas-selective membrane over the porous substrate. The present invention also relates to a method for selectively separating hydrogen gas from a hydrogen gas-containing gaseous stream.
