Surface Feature (e.g., Rough, Mirror) Patents (Class 428/687)
  • Patent number: 8444281
Abstract: An optical device has a reflecting mirror using a particle-dispersed silicon material including silicon carbide and silicon. The reflecting mirror includes a plurality of segments joined to each other by reaction sintering. Producing the segments is easy in comparison with that of a reflecting mirror of one piece. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce probability of breakage of the segments and to shorten process time of production of a reflecting mirror.

Abstract: A method for surface treating work rolls to produce isotropic textured aluminum sheet features shot-peening the surface of the working rolls that produce the sheet. The media may be steel balls, such as ball bearings or other media, such as glass or ceramic balls, depending upon the optical properties desired for the aluminum sheet, e.g., in terms of diffuseness or brightness of reflection. The various parameters of shot-peening can be varied to accommodate given properties of the roll, such as hardness and existing surface texture to achieve a given desired surface texture. A sheet surface with target properties and the work roll processing needed to produce it may be generated by computer modeling.

Abstract: Orientation degree and smoothness of a substrate surface better than those of conventional ones are provided in a textured substrate for epitaxial thin film growth. The present invention is a textured substrate for epitaxial film formation, including a crystal orientation improving layer made of a metal thin film of 1 to 5000 nm in thickness on the surface of the textured substrate for epitaxial film formation having a textured metal layer at least on one surface, wherein differences between orientation degrees (?? and ??) in the textured metal layer surface and orientation degrees (?? and ??) in the crystal orientation improving layer surface are both 0.1 to 3.0°. Further, when another metal different from the metal constituting this textured substrate crystal orientation improving layer is added equivalent to a thin film which is 30 nm or less, and subsequently is subjected to heat treatment, the smoothness of that surface can be improved.

Abstract: An aluminum-silicon carbide composite suitable for a base plate for power module, having an aluminum-silicon carbide composite, with a front and a rear surface plane, that is a flat plate-shaped silicon carbide porous body impregnated with a metal mainly containing aluminum, and an aluminum layer made of a metal mainly containing aluminum formed only on the front surface plane, wherein the rear surface plane of the composite is exposed to the outside, and the shape of the exposed aluminum-silicon carbide composite is rectangular, optionally having peripheral portions encompassing holes removed. Plating is imparted to the composite by providing an aluminum layer on the rear surface plane. Flatness of the composite is improved by grinding its rear surface so that the composite is exposed to the outside. Warpage after grinding the rear surface, is controlled by controlling the thickness of the aluminum layer.
