Abstract: When a lamp unit is formed by applying a resinous material onto an abutting part between a lamp main body and a lens part through a secondary injection process, a mold receiving portion that is shaped like a concave groove and that is entered by a mold face is formed inside an abutting portion of the lamp main body so as to receive an injection force generated when secondary injection is performed. When the lamp main body is pushed out with the abutting portion and is extracted alone, the groove of the mold receiving portion is prevented from being expanded and deformed by receiving a load generated when pushed out. A reinforcing rib with which the mold receiving portion is filled is formed at a location that corresponds to a part of the mold receiving portion pushed out by a push-out member.

Abstract: The present invention provides matrixes doped with semiconductor nanocrystals. In certain embodiments, the semiconductor nanocrystals have a size and composition such that they absorb or emit light at particular wavelengths. The nanocrystals can comprise ligands that allow for mixing with various matrix materials, including polymers, such that a minimal portion of light is scattered by the matrixes. The matrixes of the present invention can also be utilized in refractive index matching applications. In other embodiments, semiconductor nanocrystals are embedded within matrixes to form a nanocrystal density gradient, thereby creating an effective refractive index gradient. The matrixes of the present invention can also be used as filters and antireflective coatings on optical devices and as down-converting layers. Abstract: A method of forming a cushioning pad includes placing a component formed of polyurethane foam onto a first web of polyethylene foam. A second web of polyethylene foam is then placed over the component to sandwich the component. Heat and pressure is applied to the sandwich, which flattens the component and forms a seam between the first web and the second web encircling the component. If an unsealed cushioning pad is to be formed, a hollow needle is inserted into one of the first web or the second web. Air passes through the hollow needle and into the component, which absorbs the air and expands. Later, the needle is removed. If a sealed cushioning pad is to be formed, an insertion point of the hollow needle is in the seam, between the first web and the second web. After the component absorbs air and expands, the needle is removed and the insertion point of the hollow needle is re-seamed.

  • Patent number: 7005175
Abstract: An aircraft fuselage shell is fabricated of a double-walled composite structural component, including a core element bonded and sandwiched between an inner cover layer and an outer cover layer. The inner cover layer forms the main load bearing fuselage inner skin, and the outer cover layer forms the fuselage outer skin which carries a smaller proportion of the loads. The core element may consist of fiber-reinforced composite material while the cover layers may consist of an aluminum alloy, another metal, or fiber-reinforced composite material. The core element is air permeable and has air flow channels extending longitudinally therethrough in at least one direction. The cover layers do not seal or enclose the core element, so the core element is ventilatable. A ventilating airflow carries moisture as water vapor out of the core element, and then the moisture is condensed and removed by a moisture management unit.

Abstract: An organic electroluminescent device with an encapsulation film formed by wet processing and a manufacturing method thereof. The organic electroluminescent device includes a laminate structure including an anode, an organic light emitting layer and a cathode sequentially disposed on a substrate, and an encapsulation film having a polymer layer made of a polymerization product of a vinyl monomer covering the laminate structure. In the method for manufacturing the organic electroluminescent device, a laminate structure including an anode, an organic light emitting layer and a cathode sequentially disposed is formed on a substrate. An organic solution containing a vinyl monomer and a polymerization initiator is coated on the laminate structure. A polymerization reaction is induced to the organic solution coated on the laminate structure, thereby forming an encapsulation film made of a polymer layer on the laminate structure.

Abstract: A vehicle bumper (20) integrates rigid and flexible components into a single co-injection molded structure. In a preferred embodiment, a flexible fascia (58) is provided with integrated rigid fastener brackets (62, 66, 70, 71), energy absorption structure and head lamp brackets and housings (62). A method for manufacturing such a bumper provides for the injection of two different plastic materials during the same molding process. The flexible plastic material first injected into the mold. Then, the rigid plastic material is injected at gates located where the rigid material is desired. In one embodiment, the rigid material is completely contained within the flexible material. The rigid material may be either a higher stiffness plastic or a fiber reinforced plastic.

Abstract: An improved heat shield provides for reduced noise transmission of vehicular engine components is disclosed. The heat shield has three layers; a first sheet layer, a center insulation layer, and a second sheet layer. The insulation layer is positioned between the first and second sheet layers. The first sheet layer is defined by a variable shaped periphery that is folded over the periphery of the second sheet layer to form a hem having a variable length around the heat shield. The variable length serves to reduce uneven strain in the hem area experienced during crush forming the heat shield into the final shape. Further, the variable length of the hem also serves to alter the resonate frequency of the heat shield in specific areas to reduce vibration and improve acoustical properties.

Abstract: A scent dispersing apparatus, such as a mat, capable of enclosing a scent-containing element inside an air-filled cavity. A housing contains a means for air ventilation, such as small air holes, for dispersion of scent. When the housing receives a force, such as a user exerting pressure upon on the housing, air is pushed from the air cavity outward through the air holes, thereby, dispersing scent contained in the scented insert. Additional air enters the air cavity once the pressure is released through an elastic rebound effect.

Abstract: Thermal insulation systems and with methods of their production. The thermal insulation systems incorporate at least one reflection layer and at least one spacer layer in an alternating pattern. Each spacer layer includes a fill layer and a carrier layer. The fill layer may be separate from the carrier layer, or it may be a part of the carrier layer, i.e., mechanically injected into the carrier layer or chemically formed in the carrier layer. Fill layers contain a powder having a high surface area and low bulk density. Movement of powder within a fill layer is restricted by electrostatic effects with the reflection layer combined with the presence of a carrier layer, or by containing the powder in the carrier layer. The powder in the spacer layer may be compressed from its bulk density. The thermal insulation systems may further contain an outer casing. Thermal insulation systems may further include strips and seams to form a matrix of sections.
