    Abstract: In an exposure method, a photomask and a substrate having a resist applied thereto are positioned so as to be opposed to a blinking light source that repeatedly emits light and emits no light. The blinking light source is caused to blink with the substrate being continuously conveyed in a direction orthogonal to a direction in which openings in the photomask are aligned, so that multiple exposures are intermittently performed. In each exposure, a speed at which the substrate is conveyed is controlled such that the openings of the photomask overlap a portion of exposed patterns having been obtained by an immediately preceding exposure, thereby obtaining colored layers which are formed into a striped-shape and extend in the direction in which the substrate is conveyed.

In a cross section along the red color filter and the green color filter, the level of a portion above the light shielding film is higher compared with that of the other portion by the thicknesses of the blue color filter and the light shielding film. In screen printing, since the high portion serves as a stopper for the mesh, the occurrence of unevenness due to the mesh can be prevented.

The method of fabricating a color filter substrate includes coating a color resist layer on an entire surface of a substrate, placing a mask on the substrate and exposing the substrate, developing the exposed color resist layer to form a color filter pattern, and curing the color filter pattern by irradiating the substrate with infrared rays.

The conductive layer covers the active area continuously but covers the dummy area discontinuously; and thus, the active area can perform normal electrical conduction functions while an insulating effect can be achieved in the dummy area. In this way, even if conductive particles are present in the dummy area during the assembling process of the CF and a TFT, the discontinuous conductive layer in the dummy area can still prevent occurrence of abnormal conditions that the CF and the TFT are at the same voltage level.
