Abstract: Flat articles, in particular printed circuit boards, coated with a curable material, repose at their edges upon two belt conveyors which are positioned at an inclination. By means of these belt or band conveyors, the printed circuit boards are fed, in a predetermined conveying direction, below a heating device containing at least one hot air infeed device. The surface or face of the printed circuit board confronting such hot air infeed device is therefore subjected to the action of the hot or heated air, resulting in curing or hardening of the applied material layer. At the opposite side of the printed circuit board, facing away from the hot air infeed device, there is arranged a collecting tube or pipe which extends in the conveying direction. This collecting tube is provided with outlet openings for cooling air. Hence, the lower face of the printed circuit board has applied thereto the cooling air.
Abstract: The present specification describes and claims a method and apparatus for use in cooling the solid residue of gasification of a reactor operated at a pressure above atmospheric for the gasification of carbonaceous materials. The residue of gasification is conducted out of the reactor into a cooling apparatus located therebelow and flows through the cooling apparatus from the top to the bottom thereof. A cooling liquid is introduced into the solid residue in the upper region of the cooling apparatus and is metered such that the greater portion of the heat contained in the residue is eliminated in the form of heat of vaporization, sensible heat and chemical binding energy with the resultant steam and reaction products produced. The remaining residual heat which corresponds to the difference between the desired final temperature and the temperature after cooling by the liquid, is eliminated by a gas blown into the bottom region of the cooling apparatus and/or by indirect heat exchange.
Abstract: A process for thermal regeneration of charged activated coke or activated carbon granulate, in which the granulate is preheated in a preheating zone, and is then heated in a heating zone of a traveling bed by direct contact with a heated stream in the form of a partial stream of desorption gas expelled from the granulate. The granulate is then cooled in a cooling zone immediately after leaving the heating zone. The preheating and cooling procedures are carried out by using a heat exchange medium which is separate from the heated stream in the heating zone.
Abstract: An apparatus or system for cooling the interior of an autoclave furnace vessel after it has been pressurized with a gas and heated. The system comprises a heat conducting conduit opening at one end to the furnace interior and at the other end to a shut-off valve exterior to the vessel. Intermediate the two ends of the conduit is a coil portion comprising a heat exchanger positioned at a location in the furnace where hot vessel gases may be forced through or past the coil. Furnace gases are forced into the conduit and therefore through the coiled portion where they are heated prior to being exhausted. According to a preferred embodiment of this invention, there is a Joule-Thomson valve before the coiled portion of the conduit to reduce the temperature of the exhausting gases prior to arriving at the coiled portion.

Abstract: Direct-flame apparatus for drying coatings applied to the outer surface of metal cans. The apparatus includes a conveyor adapted to advance the cans in a continuous train through a tunnel having a series of direct-flame assemblies mounted therein, whereby each can in the course of its advance is progressively heated by the assemblies to cause the cans to emerge from the tunnel in a dried state. Each assembly is constituted by a gas-fed burner element and a hood placed thereover, the element emitting a sheet of flame which impinges on the coated surface and is flanked by curtains of air issuing from the hood at a velocity serving to confine the applied heat within a limited sector of the can and to prevent flashing of the coating despite the high temperature of the flame impinging thereon.
Abstract: The invention disclosed is addressed to a method and means of dry cooling bluk material within a closed system in which said material is usually supplied intermittently to a cooling station. The method comprises directing a substantially continuous stream of cooling gas through the bulk material to thereby cool it and at the same time heat the stream of cooling gas. The heated stream of cooling gas is removed from the bulk material and directed through a mixing zone where it is mixed with a stream of cold cooling gas. A selected portion of the cold cooling gas is diverted from the main stream to the mixing zone for mixing with the heated stream from the bulk material. The nondiverted portion of the cold cooling gas is directed to and through the bulk material.

Abstract: A metal cooling wall surrounds a conveyor carrying solids such as steel slabs at high temperature through the chamber defined by the cooling wall and the wall receives heat from the slabs by radiation. A liquid such as water flowing under pressure within passages within the cooling wall removes heat from the cooling wall with the control of coolant temperature controlling the cooling speed of the solids. A gas such as water vapor or carbon dioxide gas having the absorbing ability of the radiation fills the space between the slabs and the cooling wall to further control the cooling speed of the steel billets.
