  • Patent number: 9905136
Abstract: A modular learning system provides user histories to a viewing user. The modular learning system maintains a database of activity items associated with a set of user roles allowed to view and interact with the activity items. The activity items are generated as users perform actions on the modular learning system. The modular learning system receives a request for a user history from a viewing user. The modular learning system verifies a viewing user's role and identified activity items that are accessible to the viewing user based on the viewing user role. The identified activity items are used to generate histories that are provided to the viewing user.

  • Patent number: 9536440
Abstract: A question setting apparatus is disclosed, including a processor and a storage part. The storage part stores a problem database which maintains problem data including a problem and a correct answer and a student answer database which maintains answer data including an answer of a student for the problem and a correct/incorrect answer determination result for each of the students. The processor performs recording the answer data and the correct/incorrect answer determination result by using the problem database based on a correct answer of the problem, the answer data being received during a test from each of student terminals connected through a network; and sending a comment to the student terminals through the network in which during the test, an answer state of the students is determined by using the student answer database and the comment related to the problem is acquired from a teacher based on a determination result.

  • Patent number: 9530329
Abstract: A multi-layer user-selectable electronic testing (MUSET) system provides a cascaded set of alternative testing formats for test-takers to select a testing format that best accommodates their level of ability. Test-takers can answer fill-in-the-blank (FITB) items on a computer or other input device. If the test-taker is less confident of their understanding, they can select multiple-choice (MC) or true/false (T/F) testing formats. The MUSET system measures, tracks, and stores the amount of time it takes to answer test items, to switch testing formats, and to change answers. Test-takers indicate a confidence level that they have in the correctness of their answer. The MUSET system determines confidence characteristics, latency characteristics, and hesitancy characteristics of the test-taker and gathers additional parameters to build a performance profile of the test-taker's skills/traits/abilities.

  • Patent number: 9501469
Abstract: A user provides a query that includes at least two of a subject, a predicate, and an object. A computer system identifies synonyms of one or more of the subject, predicate, and object, and forms new queries from the identified synonyms. The system searches a dataset using the new queries, and possibly also using the user-provided query, to produce search results. The system may process the search results, such as by filtering and/or sorting them. The system provides output representing the search results to the user. The user may use the search result output to identify answers that are analogous to answers to the query originally provided by the user.

  • Patent number: 9485237
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments that perform confidence-based authentication of a user. An identification of a user account is obtained from a user, and a minimum confidence threshold is determined. Multiple authentication challenges are presented to the user. Responses are obtained from the user to a subset of the challenges, with each response having a corresponding authentication point value. A confidence score is generated for the user, where the confidence score is increased by the respective authentication point values of the correct responses. The user is authenticated as being associated with the user account in response to determining that the confidence score meets the minimum confidence threshold.

  • Patent number: 9449350
Abstract: Computer-readable media, systems, and methods are provided for prompting a customer of a service to submit digital content to the service in order to generate an online compilation. Input from the customer may be received in response to communications from the service. Temporal preference information may then be extracted from the input by determining time periods at which the customer most commonly provides the input in response to the communications. Based on the time periods at which the customer most commonly provides input, a prompting scheme may be derived, where the prompting scheme governs scheduling an automatic distribution of subsequent communications to the customer at the time periods at which the customer most commonly provides the input. The subsequent communications may then be distributed to the customer in accordance with the prompting scheme.

Abstract: In some implementations, one or more words from a digital work are used to generate a game to be displayed on an electronic device. For example, the electronic device may include a library of one or more digital works. A word or knowledge game may be dynamically generated based on objects, such as characters, topics, places, organizations, things, etc., identified in at least one digital work in the library. As one example, a crossword puzzle may be created to include words and clues based at least in part on the objects identified in at least one digital work and supplemental information associated with the objects. The clues for the crossword puzzle may be generated automatically based, at least in part, on a desired level of difficulty. Further, in some cases, the game may be generated from words drawn from multiple digital works in the library.
