Abstract: A selectively compliant chuck for assembling tiles into larger LCD displays facilitates alignment between a cover plate and a tile. A linear clutch is positioned between the tile chuck and the tile chuck carrier. This allows each chuck to float in the axis perpendicular to the tile's mating surface. The chuck has freedom to move linearly in this axis, and allows for pitch and roll motion as well. This floating connection can be turned on or off at will. Thus, a tile attached to the chuck can be lowered to intimately contact a cover plate and the chuck will compliantly move for high mating tolerances. Thereafter, the clutch can be locked to fix the chuck in it's current position. In this manner, the tile can be raised so that an adhesive can be applied to the cover plate. The tile can then be lowered back over the adhesive with the clutch locked and alignment maintained.

  • Patent number: 6045428
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning an electron gun of a CRT wherein said method and apparatus prevents damage to the CRT's during the cleaning process. A protective cap is placed over the pins of an assembled CRT for protecting the pins against damage. The CRT is then lowered into a container that is filled with dielectric-fluid. A socket that includes a central opening is disposed in the container. The pins of the CRT are electrically coupled to the socket. The dielectric-fluid is circulated through the central opening of the socket so as to remove any air trapped between the stem base surface of the CRT and the protective cap. A high voltage electrical current is then selectively applied to the pins for cleaning the electron gun of the CRT.

  • Patent number: 5799382
Abstract: A device for separating and removing lamp holders from their sockets, and more particularly, a compact device for removing small lamp holders such as those found in miniature light sets from their sockets. The device provides jaws which penetrate into the cleft between the lamp holder and the socket and which can be actuated to apply prying separating forces in this cleft in order to optimally oppose the frictional forces retaining the lamp holder in its socket. The ease of operation and the limited range of movement of the jaws results in a large degree of control in the removal of the lamp holder.

  • Patent number: 5764004
Abstract: Method and apparatus are presented for the generation, regeneration, and transplantation of field enhancing whiskers to provide for an improved cathode in flat panel displays in particular, and in other applications. Such applications comprise devices in which there is an emissive cathode structure for producing electrons. There are clear advantages for the instant invention in the case of a flat panel display which requires a relatively large cathode area, because the present invention avoids excessive power loss due to radiation and conduction loss by permitting operation of the cathode at a significantly lower temperature than if it operated solely as a thermionic emitter. The combination of moderately elevated temperature and enhanced electric field allows the advantages of thermo-field assisted emission.

  • Patent number: 5685760
Abstract: A light exposing device for fixing a black matrix on the internal surface of a CRT's panel is disclosed. The device includes green, blue and red light exposing units arranged in a casing one after another. Each exposing unit has a light source, a shutter, a compensating lens and a filter. A chucking unit is placed at each side of the device for selectively chucking a plurality of panels seated on the exposing units. The chucking unit is operated by a driving unit so as to move the panels on the device by one pitch. Initial and final waiting sections are provided before the green light exposing unit and after the red light exposing unit, respectively. On the waiting sections, the panels before exposing and after exposing stand by ready to be fed to the green light exposing unit and to be fed to a following process, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5628659
Abstract: A system and method is available for fabricating a field emitter device, where in an emitter material, such as copper, is deposited over a resistive layer which has been deposited upon a substrate. Two ion beam sources are utilized. The first ion beam source is directed at a target material, such as molybdenum, for sputtering molybdenum onto the emitter material. The second ion beam source is utilized to etch the emitter material to produce cones or micro-tips. A low work function material, such as amorphous diamond, is then deposited over the micro-tips.

  • Patent number: 5509843
Abstract: A method and apparatus exists for manufacturing needle-shaped materials for use as microemitters, wherein a light beam output from a light source is split into a plurality of beams and the split light beams are focused by an optical system and directed into a chamber having a gas containing electroconductive molecules. The electroconductive molecules are degraded through excitation by the beams directed into the chamber to deposit needle-shaped materials on a substrate disposed in the chamber. By so doing, a plurality of needle-shaped materials are simultaneously produced on the substrate in accordance with a corresponding number of beams obtained through splitting.
