Abstract: A method for machining a rotor having a disc and a plurality of integral airfoils projecting outwardly from the disc, according to one aspect of the invention, comprises a step of machining each airfoil with a disc tool having a grinding periphery thereof adapted for removing material from the airfoils. The grinding periphery has a thickness greater than a thickness of an adjacent supporting portion of the disc to permit the grinding periphery to pass a surface of an airfoil in a multi-axis simultaneous motion, thereby matching the grinding periphery with a predetermined geometry of a portion of the airfoil.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a device for producing molds for toothed belts. A grinding wheel (9) that has a profiled periphery is used instead of a milling cutter to provide the circumference of a roller-shaped blank (4) with the matrix of a desired tooth contour of a toothed belt. The circumferential profile of the grinding wheel (9) is trimmed using a CNC-controlled diamond trimming pin (11) or alternatively with a profiling diamond (19).
Abstract: A method for forming a cutting edge along an edge portion of a blade stock, wherein the method includes moving the blade stock with respect to a first cutting element rotating about a first rotational axis, the first rotational axis forming one of an acute angle and a perpendicular angle with respect to the cutting edge, and contacting the edge portion and the first cutting element and forming a first cutting surface along the edge portion. The method may also include moving the blade stock with respect to a second cutting element rotating about a second rotational axis, the second rotational axis forming one of an acute angle and a perpendicular angle with respect to the cutting edge, and contacting the edge portion and the second cutting element and forming a second cutting surface along the edge portion so that the second cutting surface intersects the first cutting surface to form the cutting edge.

Abstract: The invention is based on the method for the resharpening of knives used in size-reduction machines described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,525,094 in which the knives remain installed in a rotatable knife carrier. With this invention the process has been further developed in so far as the cutting edges S are ground one after another respectively at one stop position of the knife carrier 8 in which the radial ray MS of the cutting circle with the direction mS of the grinding feed v at the knife cutting edges S encloses the clearance angle .phi.. So the invention offers the possibility to choose for the cutting edges any clearance angle matching the properties of the material to be flaked.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forming a hemispherical convex mirror surface on the end of a ferrule or optical fiber connector efficiently and accurately. The apparatus has a grinding wheel having a concave work surface, a tool for correcting the shape of the work surface, a stage for bringing the tool into contact with the wheel, a mechanism for causing the end of the ferrule to contact the work surface, and a mechanism for displacing the axis of the ferrule from the center of the curvature of the arcuate section of the work surface. After the axis of the ferrule has been displaced from the center of the curvature, the ferrule is caused to contact the work surface and roughly ground thereby. Subsequently, after the ferrule axis has been brought into alignment with the center of curvature, the ferrule is sequentially finished from the tip to a preselected point thereof.
Abstract: The machine comprises at least one workpiece-bearing device is provided, upon which a tile or a stack thereof can be placed and blocked. The workpiece-bearing device is revolvable and can be positioned at any angle about a fixed axis. At least one drive head is fitted with at least one rotating grinding wheel, which operates on one side of the tile or on same sides of tiles forming the stack. The workpiece-bearing device and the drive head are constrained to a fixed frame in such a way that a plane of work motion of the at least one grinding wheel is disposed parallel to an axis of rotation of the workpiece-bearing device.
