Long Helix Patents (Class 451/220)
  • Patent number: 10576602
Abstract: Described is a method for grinding workpieces, which comprise at least one cylindrical and profiled portion each, on one and the same grinding machine. The workpiece is ground initially in a first grinding operation in a first clamping in the grinding machine, said first grinding operation being followed by a second grinding operation once the first clamping has been released and then, before the start of the second grinding operation, a second clamping has been generated.

Abstract: A grinding apparatus for grinding a spline ball groove on a workpiece comprises a rod-shaped grindstone, having a distal end portion with a curved surface corresponding to the groove to be ground, and a spindle mechanism for rotating the grindstone. The spindle mechanism and the grindstone are supported by means of a supporter in a manner such that they are inclined at a given angle to an axis of the workpiece. A rotary dresser, which has a dress groove corresponding to the curved surface of the distal end portion of the grindstone, is disposed near the grinding apparatus. The grindstone can be reciprocated along the axis of the workpiece by a drive mechanism between the workpiece and the dresser without changing its angle of inclination.

  • Patent number: 6120364
Abstract: A grinding fixture that allows a variety of helical shapes to be ground upon a variety of cutting inserts. The grinding fixture includes a bottom sine base for varying a first angle. A shaft is rotatably attached to the bottom sine base for providing rotation of the insert about an axis. A primary slide is rotatably attached to the shalt in parallel relation to the top surface of the bottom sine base for adjusting the position of a locating point on the insert in a first direction relative to the axis of rotation. The locating point is adjusted in a second direction relative to the axis of rotation by a cross slide attached to, and disposed in perpendicular relation with, the primary slide. A top sine assembly is fixedly attached to the cross slide for varying a second angle and includes a connection surface for fixedly connecting the insert holder to the sine assembly.

  • Patent number: 5807164
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a device for regrinding tools having straight or helical grooves with the help of a positioning head, which is provided with a feeler pin, which engages a groove and which, in the direction of advance, is disposed in front of the grinding disk. In order to make it possible to regrind the tool over the whole of its length, it is proposed pursuant to the invention that a positioning head with two feeler pins be used, the first feeler pin, which leads the grinding disk, being retracted from the groove before entry into the groove outlet or, if this groove runs out into the open, before leaving this groove and the second feeler pin, which is rigidly connected with the positioning head, trailing the grinding disk and, after removal of the first feeler pin from the groove, taking over the guidance of the spindle sleeve of the spindle head of the workpiece.
