Billing Patents (Class 455/406)
  • Patent number: 10609224
Abstract: The present system relates to a server for providing data connectivity in a packet mode communication network. The server has a processor arranged to receive, via a first brokerage control unit, a charging rule request to allow one or more communication devices in the communication network to exchange with an application server data charged under operator specific billing. The server determines availability of the operator specific billing based on network parameters and the charging rule request, and updates the database of a Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) entity in the communication network based on available operator specific billing and an identifier for the application server, for subsequent charging of data exchanged with the application server at said available operator specific billing.

  • Patent number: 10609587
Abstract: A location-based system detects anomalies in performance indicators of telecommunication networks. The system generates a plurality of service areas, each service area including a plurality of adjacent cell sites. A performance indicator of a first service area of the plurality of service areas is selected and an aggregated service area performance indicator is generated, by aggregating the selected performance indicator for each cell site of the plurality of cell sites of the first service area. Generation of the plurality of service areas may be related to a determined network traffic threshold. The threshold may be related to: total bandwidth provided by a cell site, or total number of calls handled by a cell site. The selected indicator may be, for example the call set-up success rate (CSSR), or the drop call rate (DCR). An alert related to the aggregated indicator may be generated.

  • Patent number: 10594499
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to communication between a policy engine and a charging engine of a wireless communication network. In one example, the charging engine maintains a data store that includes counters and corresponding service identifiers of one or more subscribers of the wireless communication network. In operation, the charging engine receives a status request message from the policy engine, where the status request message is a request for information on a counter associated with a service identifier. The charging engine may determine that the service identifier is not included in the data store and in response thereto generate a default response message that includes nominal data. The charging engine then sends the default response message to the policy engine to enable the policy engine to implement a default policy for allowing a data session between a user device and the wireless communication network.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for providing device centric payments in roaming conditions. In operation, a device requests service from a visiting communication network. The device provides an identity associated with the device. The device records an amount of service utilized (e.g. utilizing blockchain technology, etc.). The device submits the amount of service utilized to the visiting network or to a blockchain, such that the visiting network is capable of determining whether the amount of service utilized recorded by the device is similar to an amount of service usage measured by the visiting network (e.g. when an established credit limit available has been utilized, etc.).

  • Patent number: 10554531
Abstract: A method is provided for enforcing quality of service parameters. A gateway receives a request for data usage from a mobile device. The gateway sends, to a controller, inquiry for allowed bit rate. Upon receiving a first bit rate value, the gateway sends, to a charging system, request for quota. In response to receiving the quota, the gateway provides data to the mobile device based on the first bit rate value. The gateway provides data to the mobile device until the quota is exhausted. Once a data usage threshold is reached, the gateway receives, from the controller, a second bit rate value. In response to receiving the second bit rate value, the gateway provides data to the mobile device based on the second bit rate value, until an activation-time is reached. When the activation-time is reached, the gateway resets the allowed bit rate to the first bit rate value.

Abstract: In a 5th-Generation (5G) cellular communication network, charging customers for data usage is performed by a network function referred to as a charging function (CHF). A session management function (SMF) of the network repeatedly sends update requests to reserve additional data for a data session. If the CHF is not available and the SMF does not receive a response to an update message, the SMF continues to assign data for the data session, even though it has not received authorization to do so from the CHF. When the CHF becomes available, the SMF sends a request to start a second data session to continue the data connection that was previously supported by the original data session. This request specifies the amount of data that was used in the original data session without being confirmed by the CHF, allowing the CHF to account for this data usage.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to optimize bandwidth usage associated with a local network. As part of the bandwidth optimization techniques, a network regulation entity may maintain a plurality of usage statistics for a plurality of electronic devices. These usage statistics may be compared to an access profile to determine whether the local network is being used in a way anomalous with the access profile. If there is an anomalous usage condition present, the network regulation entity may generate a notification to inform a user of an electronic device as to the anomalous condition. Accordingly, when a user of the electronic device interacts with the notification, the electronic device may present an interface that enables the user to remedy the anomalous condition. Thus, because the remedial action is generated at the user's direction, compliance with network neutrality principles may be maintained.

  • Patent number: 10381748
Abstract: A satellite communication system provides for handovers between satellites and multiple gateways. Terminals communicate with a first gateway via a first satellite as beams of the first satellite traverse the region. A second gateway is in communication with the first satellite and hands over to a second satellite. The first gateway is at a first location. The second gateway is at a second location separated from the first location in the orbital direction. Terminals handover to the second satellite as beams of the second satellite begin to traverse the region, and the terminals start connecting to and communicating with the second gateway via the second satellite. After all of the terminals of the plurality of terminals handover to the second satellite, the first gateway hands over to the second satellite and then the terminals in the region communicate with the first gateway via the second satellite.

  • Patent number: 10382999
Abstract: The present invention pertains to improved communication quality of service in communication networks. A customer may pay different fees for different tiers of service relating to voice quality and bandwidth access. Higher service tiers may guarantee that a specific vocoder or bit rate is used; or guarantee that communication is supported by parameters such as maximum allowed dropped calls rate, jitter and latency. Availability may be guaranteed per the contract between subscribers and service providers. Different tiers may be associated with customers' records for billing purposes. High end devices may be afforded higher voice quality by comparing a given device to a look up table indicating what service level is associated therewith. A calling device or a receiving device may ask the other device to change the vocoder or bit rate to ensure a higher quality call. The user may also change the quality level before or during a call.
