  • Patent number: 8527014
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to techniques for performing service signal searches with reduced power consumption when a wireless communication device is operating out of service. The techniques include placing the wireless communication device in a “deep sleep” mode when the wireless communication device is not in service. When operating in the deep sleep mode, the wireless communication device reduces power consumption by not looking for paging signals or searching for service signals. The wireless communication device then may periodically enter a wake-up period during which power consumption is increased to perform signal searches in one or more frequency bands. The wireless communication device returns to the deep sleep mode when the signal searches are unsuccessful.

Abstract: Contention for a resource in a multi-resource system is resolved by separately resolving contention for each resource. In some cases where two or more entities contending for a resource are associated with equal priorities, lexicographic ordering is used to resolve contention between these entities. In some cases where two or more entities contending for a resource are associated with equal priorities, a random probability-based scheme is used to resolve contention between these entities. Also, different types of schemes may be used to resolve contention for different resources.

Abstract: A method for managing radio resources allocated by a radio network controller of a UTRAN radio access network, where the resources support a plurality of service requests identified by a radio access bearer service request sent by the core network and describing the required QoS as a set of RAB parameters defined by mapping with corresponding QoS parameters of the core network, the controller is provided to distribute the resources amongst the bearer services and to modulate the allocation of the resources according to the priority level associated with each of the bearer services, and the priority level is defined by the “priority level” sub-parameter of the “Allocation Retention Priority” RAB parameter, with a value determined by taking into account the value of the “Allocation Retention Priority” QOS parameter of the core network and the value of at least one QoS parameter associated with the type of service.

  • Patent number: 8504029
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) cell search involves tuning a demodulation frequency of the UE based on signals received from a first encountered cell and using a non-initial cell search procedure to continue searching for a cell that is qualified for camping on, wherein the non-initial cell search procedure relies on the demodulation frequency being within limits of accuracy that enable successful reception and decoding of received information. Prior to finding a qualified cell, information enabling a first discovered unqualified cell to again be found is saved. After a period of time during which the non-initial cell search procedure has been performed and before the UE's demodulation frequency is beyond acceptable limits of accuracy, the saved information is used to again tune the demodulation frequency based on reading signals from the first discovered unqualified cell. The UE then continues to perform the non-initial cell search procedure.

Abstract: In certain wireless communication systems, requests for connecting to a radio access technology (RAT) may be ambiguous depending on the communication configuration. For example, in certain RAT priority lists an ambiguity may exist when determining whether a UE should prioritize connection to a TD-SCDMA or WCDMA network. To remove this ambiguity, an indicator may be set in the memory of the UE to indicate network priority in the event of ambiguity. The mobile wireless communication device may be handed-off to the second network and/or may establish simultaneous communication sessions with the first network and the second network without communicating authentication, authorization and/or accounting information to the second network. The first and/or second network and/or another network device may comprise and/or share a session control server.

Abstract: The present invention allows a mobile terminal to automatically log on to an access network, and potentially log on to an entity on the access network or associated network based on the communication zone from which communications are afforded. The mobile terminal can detect one or more available access points associated with one or more communication zones and determine the most appropriate communication zone to use when obtaining network access. Based on the selected communication zone, the mobile terminal will obtain logon information from a logon profile. The logon information will provide sufficient information to allow the mobile terminal to obtain network access via the appropriate access point. Additional logon information may be provided for logging on to a network entity once network access is afforded.
