  • Patent number: 8649790
Abstract: A method in a base station for configuring a wireless terminal for performing a cell reselection or handover evaluation process “evaluation process” is provided. The wireless terminal is arranged to perform multiple evaluation processes parallel to each other, which multiple evaluation processes are governed by different set of mobility parameters. The base station determines (302) whether or not the multiple parallel evaluation processes, shall be used by the wireless terminal, based on the result of an establishment (301) of the mobility state, such as movement speed, of the wireless terminal. The base station signals (306) an identifier to the wireless terminal (110), which identifier identifies the determined whether or not the multiple parallel evaluation processes shall be configured to be used by the wireless terminal for evaluating cell reselection or handover.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods and arrangements for an event triggered DRX cycle adjustment. A user equipment located in a serving cell of a mobile communications network monitors downlink communication at predetermined time intervals when operating in discontinuous reception mode. The user equipment also performs communication parameter measurements regarding at least one of the serving cell and one or more neighbour cells. After the occurrence of a first event, the user equipment sends at least one of measurement data and a first event report to the network. The sending is triggered by the occurrence of the first event. The monitoring is caused to be performed at shortened time intervals after the occurrence of a second event, wherein the second event is defined to indicate a higher probability of receiving a handover command than the first event.

  • Patent number: 8644246
Abstract: The invention provides, according to one aspect, a method of scheduling information in a communication system at serving cell change. When a serving cell changes for a user equipment (UE), it is determined whether the new serving cell belonged to the previous serving enhanced data channel (EDCH) radio link set (RLS). The user equipment then sends scheduling information (SI) in the first MAC-e protocol data unit (PDU) sent in uplink after completion of the serving cell change only when it is determined that the new serving cell did not belong to the previous serving EDCH RLS. In other words, the UE sends the SI at serving cell change only when the base station (node B) has also changed.

  • Patent number: 8644258
Abstract: The invention proposes a method and an apparatus for reducing break duration in handover of a VoIP conversation from a packet switch domain to a circuit switch domain. The main idea is that a synchronization mechanism is introduced between the session handover procedure at IP multimedia subsystem IMS layer and a cell handover procedure at layer 2, so that enable the two handover procedures to start at or almost at the same time. When a Mobile Switching Center MSC server receives a request of handover from the source Mobility Management Entity MME, the time required from the time the MSC server transmitting a message to this message arriving at a remote end user equipment UE is computed first, and then is compared with a predetermined time required from the time the MSC server transmitting a message to this message arriving at the local UE.

Abstract: A system, method, and web-based application platform enabling a television viewer to utilize an Internet device to request a Video-On-Demand (VOD) server to stream a selected video to the viewer's Set Top Box (STB). An Internet Protocol (IP) connection is established between the Internet device and an application executing at a web site, and an Internet device identifier is passed to the application. The application communicates with the VOD server to obtain a listing of available videos, and provides the listing to the Internet device. When the viewer selects a video, the application accesses an equipment-mapping table, which associates the Internet device identifier with an STB identifier. The application then sends the STB identifier and a request for the selected video to the VOD server, which delivers the video to the STB over a television delivery system.

Abstract: An access terminal establishes a session with a first radio access network (RAN). As a result, the access terminal receives a Unicast Access Terminal Identifier (UATI) assigned by the first RAN and establishes configuration settings for radio communications between the access terminal and the first RAN. The access terminal moves from the first RAN to a second RAN. Before the access terminal has a session established with the second RAN, the access terminal receives a request from a user to originate a call. In response, the access terminal sends the second RAN a connection request that includes the UATI assigned by the first RAN. The second RAN evaluates the UATI included in the connection request and determines that it was previously assigned to the access terminal by another RAN. Abstract: The disclosure is related to adaptive load management in a femtocell network. A load state of a femtocell base station may be determined as one of a low load state, a middle load state, and a high load state. According to the determined load state, a reserved service capacity and an available service capacity of the femtocell base station may be adaptive controlled. Furthermore, at least one handover trigger condition associated with the femtocell base station may be controlled according to the determined load state of the femtocell base station.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of broadcasting and receiving a neighboring base station advertisement message in a wideband wireless access system and a handover method using the same. In the present invention, a base station broadcasts a neighboring base station advertisement message including information that indicates that frequency overlay is supported in neighboring base stations to terminals. The terminal confirms whether frequency overlay is supported in the neighboring base stations included in the neighboring base station advertisement message, and can perform handover to a frequency overlay supporting base station as a destination base station.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for facilitating a handoff to a target sector that is not in the neighbor list of a mobile station's current source sector. In at least one embodiment, a mobile station detects (i) that a target sector is a handoff candidate and (ii) that the target sector is not listed in a neighbor list of a source sector; requests to be served by the target sector at least in part by sending an access probe to the target sector; and transitions from engaging in an active communication session via a communication path not including the target sector to doing so via a communication path that does include the target sector. The access probe may include an indication that the mobile station is in an active state. In at least one embodiment, at least one network entity may carry out the one or more network-side aspects that may facilitate the above-described method.

Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for load balancing in a network (e.g., LTE wireless network) and between networks based on reselection priority and/or a level of congestion. The embodiments of the invention describe different options to move the UE to another cell which may be in the same or in a different RAT, to avoid congestion and/or overloading of the network. This will help to avoid subsequent RRC connection reject messages being sent to the UE from the congested cell.

Abstract: A method for forwarding data during cell handover includes: forwarding, by a source base station, user plane data of Packet Data Convergence Protocol, PDCP, data units that have not been transmitted to a User Equipment, UE, to a target base station in a PDCP layer during cell handover. In addition, embodiments of the present invention further provide a system and devices for forwarding data during cell handover. In the method, a system and base stations are provided by the present invention, the data that have not been transmitted are forwarded in a layered manner respectively in at least one of the PDCP layer and RLC layer. Therefore, data transmission during cell handover is implemented and data loss due to the handover is avoided.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate initiating an intra-closed subscriber group (CSG) handover. Access points in the same or similar CSG can make determinations regarding one or more devices without requiring information from the devices. An access point in a closed access mode can assume a device to which it communicates is a member of the CSG, and can provide such information to a target access point of the same CSG operating in a hybrid access mode, and the hybrid access mode access point can determine to allow member level access to the device. Similarly, where the target access point operates in a closed access mode, a source access point in the same CSG can determine whether to initiate handover of the device to the target access point based at least in part on CSG membership information for the device.
