  • Patent number: 8862124
Abstract: Systems and methods that provide a mechanism to relocate functions from one gateway to another gateway in a wireless communication network are disclosed. The gateway can implement an access service network (ASN) gateway in a WiMAX based network with a number of functionalities co-located on the gateway such as an authenticator, an anchor FA, an anchor DPF, a PMIP client, and a prepaid client. These functionalities can then be relocated from a first ASN gateway to a second ASN gateway. The proposed system and method reduces the messaging needed for the relocation and the number of components in the network, which can save capital and operating expenses. Additionally, the reduced messaging can reduce latency and delay in the process of relocating, which saves bandwidth and increases the level of service provided to the user.

Abstract: Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products are described for supporting macrocell-to-femtocell hand-ins of active macro communications for mobile access terminals. A femto-proxy system is provided including a femtocell and an out-of-band (OOB) proxy. While the femtocell may be addressed by the macro network according to a potentially non-unique identifier (e.g., its PN offset), the OOB proxy is addressable according to a unique OOB identifier (e.g., a Bluetooth device address, BD_ADDR). When the mobile access terminal is in proximity to the femto-proxy system, it detects the OOB proxy and communicates the unique OOB identifier to the core network via the macro network (e.g., as part of a measurement report). The OOB identifier is mapped (e.g., in the core network) to the femtocell, allowing the core network to uniquely identify the appropriate target femtocell for active hand-in.

The MIH user (14) notifies a link controller (12) via the MIH function unit (13) of a condition setting request including a first judgment logical formula being a condition to start an establishment of a radio link with the second network and a second judgment logical formula being a condition to execute a handover from the first network to the second network. The first judgment logical formula and the second judgment logical formula each indicate a combination of thresholds to be satisfied by a plurality of respective link is parameters in the radio link established with the first network.

Abstract: A system and methodology that can utilize measurement data collected by a set of femto access points (FAPs), during a network listen procedure, to detect one or more areas with weak macro network coverage and/or high interference. Moreover, an automatic cell planning (ACP) component can be employed to analyze the measurement data and update a transmission parameter(s) associated with a macro access point. After the update is implemented, the ACP component can trigger another network listen procedure at the set of FAPs and receive new measurement data. The ACP component can evaluate the new measurement data to dynamically verify that the implementation of the update resulted in an improvement of macro network coverage and/or interference within the one or more areas.

Abstract: A networked computing system for assigning regional wireless communications based on ancillary device feedback. The network computing system includes a radio communications controller, one or more transceiver device(s), user equipment, and data communications network facilitating data communications amongst the wireless communications devices of the networked computing system. The radio communications controller may be configured to receive a feedback communication from a network transceiver device capable of detecting ancillary wireless communications, and then determine whether an alternate service provider resource exists for providing wireless data communications service to the user equipment within the data communications network, based on the received feedback communication.

  • Patent number: 8811997
Abstract: A first handoff is for an inter-AN cell selection where a source AN allows the AT to add a cell under the control of a different AN to its active set and then allows the AT to switch to the target AN. A bearer path is established between the source and target AN to transfer the data traffic using an exchange of messages to register the AT's movement from one BTS to another BTS. The A8/A10 connections remain anchored at the source AN so a bearer path is needed between the source and target AN to transfer the data traffic. The second handoff occurs when the source AN specifies a move of the AT to a new AN proactively. New connections are established at the target AN to support the AT, and the AT is subsequently moved to the target AN via the relevant air-interface messaging.

Abstract: A GSM or UMTS mobile telecommunications network is disclosed. In addition to the conventional radio access network comprising macro base station, one or more additional access points are provided. The access point is connected to the network core by an IP transport broadband connection. The access point is configured to appear to the mobile terminal as a conventional base station—that is, it communicates with the mobile terminal using GSM or UMTS transport protocols and does not require any modification to a standard GSM or UMTS mobile terminal. A subscriber may be provided with a designated “home” access point to provide coverage in their premises. Arrangements are described which will tend to reduce the likelihood that reselection to the macro base station while radio coverage is available from the home access point.

Abstract: Methodologies are described that facilitate inter-eNode B handover. In various embodiments, logical protocol termination can be implemented between the user equipment and the target eNode B for inter-eNode B handover signaling. The provided handover forwarding and encapsulation mechanisms enable improved inter-operability between eNode Bs implementing different protocol versions or from different vendors, which in turn enables frequent protocol upgrades. Additionally, the invention enables the target eNode B to implement new radio configurations even if the configuration is unsupported by the source eNode B.

  • Publication number: 20140220983
Abstract: The disclosure provides an X2 handover method and device, the method comprises: after sending a Handover Request Acknowledge message, a target eNB sets, for handed-over UE, a flag for indicating whether or not a Sequence Number Status Transfer message is received and sets the flag to be ‘not received’; and after receiving an RRC Connection Reconfiguration Complete message, the target eNB directly sends a Path Switch Request message to a core network without determining whether or not the Sequence Number Status Transfer message is received. With the technical scheme provided in the disclosure, the problem in the current X2 handover is solved that handover delay is increased as an RRC Connection Reconfiguration completion message is received by a target side prior to a Sequence Number Status Transfer message, thus simplifying the processing of a target eNB and increasing handover speed.
