  • Patent number: 8792914
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed whereby location based information (LBI) is used to make access and routing decisions within a network. Such LBI is sent from mobile devices to the core network when the mobile device registers with the network and is updated periodically. Over time, this collected LBI data represents the position of mobile devices over time and periodic patterns of usage in different geographic areas. When a network receives an indication that a mobile device requires registration with the network, the network determines as a function of said LBI, a desired network access technology to use to connect said mobile device with the network. Instructions are then transmitted to the mobile device to establish a connection using said desired network access technology and the device is registered with the network. Dynamically updated LBI information from mobile devices is also used for IP network routing optimization.

In the example implementations, a pico eNB that is fully covered by a macro eNB or other pico eNBs transmits blank PBCH such that it is inaccessible to the UEs who perform cell selection/reselection. Furthermore, a macro eNB may handover a UE to the inaccessible pico eNB by signalling the necessary information to the UE to detect the inaccessible pico eNB. Frequent cell selection/reselection and handover may therefore be avoided in a dense deployment situation.

Abstract: A mobile terminal as well as a network connecting method and a network connecting apparatus thereof are disclosed in the present disclosure. The network connecting method comprises the following steps of: determining whether the network connecting mode is a dual-mode mode when the mobile terminal is connecting to a network; and if it is determined that the network connecting mode is the dual-mode mode, then setting the network connecting mode of the mobile terminal into a TD preference mode and connecting to the network. In the present disclosure, when the mobile phone is not in a 3G network or when the 3G signal is weak, the mobile phone that has been switched to a 2G network can re-initiate the network business without the need of firstly logging on the 3G network. This significantly reduces the network searching time, which is very convenient for the user.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing mobility of a terminal by a first base station in a communication system. The first base station assigns a first address to the terminal located in a cell managed by the first base station and establishes a session to an external server that communicates with the terminal using the first address. If the terminal moves to a cell managed by a second base station different from the first base station, the first base station determines whether information about a second address assigned to the terminal by the second base station is received within a predetermined time. Upon receiving the information about the second address within the predetermined time, the first base station transmits data received from the external server to the terminal through the second base station using the information about the second address.

Abstract: The present invention provides a cell reselection method and terminal. The method includes: cells on multiple frequencies with the same priority are set as same-priority cells. The terminal comprises: a first reselection module, used to select cells on multiple frequencies with the same priority according to a priority-based reselection principle when a terminal performs cell reselection, wherein the cells on multiple frequencies with the same priority are same-priority cells; a second reselection module, used to select a cell as a reselected cell from the same-priority cells based on a best-cell reselection principle. The above technical solution enables the terminal to perform cell reselection quickly in a determined manner, and enables configuration of network parameters to achieve the intended purpose.

  • Patent number: 8761759
Abstract: A method and medium are provided for changing operational parameters on a mobile device while the mobile device is roaming. The mobile device supplies data that indicates operational characteristics of the mobile device to a home network by sending a first short-message service (SMS) message to the home network. The mobile device is connected to a roaming network and thus, the first message is sent using the messaging services of the roaming network. The home network determines new operational parameters for the mobile device based on the data. The home network sends a second SMS message to the mobile device which delivered to the mobile device by the roaming network's messaging services. The mobile device receives the second SMS message at a designated control slot and changes stored operational parameters to the new operational parameters.

Abstract: A radio base station and a method therein for management of neighbour relations with respect to neighbouring radio base stations are provided. The radio base station is connected to an Operation and Maintenance, O&M system requesting performance measurement data relating to the neighbour relations from the radio base station. The radio base station 200, 300, 400 is configured to associate each neighbour relation with a pre-defined first or a predefined second neighbour relation type, wherein the first neighbour relation type indicates that the neighbour relation is to be monitored and the second neighbour relation type indicates that the neighbour relation is to be unmonitored. The base station is further configured to collect performance measurement data relating to mobility for neighbour relations associated with the first neighbour relation type, and to send the collected performance measurement data only for neighbour relations associated with the first neighbour relation type to the O&M system.

  • Patent number: 8750807
Abstract: A method of measurement gap reporting and configuration is provided. In a mobile network, a UE receives a capability enquiry message from a serving base station. The UE comprises one or more radio frequency modules that support a list of frequency bands and a list of carrier aggregation (CA) band combinations. In response to the enquiry, the UE transmits capability information containing measurement parameters to the base station. In one embodiment, the measurement parameters comprise need-for-gap parameters for each frequency band and each CA band combinations associated with a list of to-be-measured frequency bands of target cells. Based on the reported measurement parameters, the eNB transmits a measurement configuration message to the UE. Finally, the UE transmits a measurement gap application message back to the base station. The measurement gap application message indicates whether the UE applies MG for each configured component carrier.

  • Patent number: 8750245
Abstract: Techniques in a mobile device for use in initiating vertical handover of a voice or a data call between a wireless local area network (WLAN) and a wide area wireless network (WWAN) are described. The mobile device performs communication operations for maintaining the voice or the data call via the WLAN or the WWAN. During the voice or the data call, the mobile device identifies a WLAN signal quality value of signals with the WLAN, as well as a WWAN signal quality value of signals with the WWAN. The mobile device then performs a comparative evaluation of the WLAN and the WWAN signal quality values, and initiates a vertical handover of the voice or the data call between the WLAN and the WWAN based on the comparative evaluation of the WLAN and WWAN signal quality values. The comparative evaluation may involve calculating a signal indicator value which is based on a ratio of the WLAN and the WWAN signal quality values.
