  • Patent number: 7454219
Abstract: A method of synchronization on the uplink channel of a Simulcast network with a plurality of fixed receivers (BS1-BS4) and a selection unit (20), comprises the following steps. All the receivers are placed in a synchronization search mode (702), in which they search for a synchronization pattern sent by the mobile terminal over the uplink channel. When a receiver detects the synchronization pattern, it produces an initial synchronization context (SC3(0)), which indicates the delay of the radio signal relative to a time reference of the network, and transmits it (705) to the selection unit. The latter broadcasts it (707) to all the receivers that use it to start processing the radio signal. Then, each receiver maintains its synchronization context and transmits it (708-712) to the selection unit on each frame. At regular intervals, the value of an updated synchronization context (SC2(i)) is broadcast (714) to the receivers.

Abstract: A semi-single frequency network (SFN) concept is presented. According to the SFN concept, the same data signal is transmitted from multiple base stations to a mobile terminal simultaneously on the same frequency band. Accordingly, the transmitted signals are combined in the radio channel and the mobile terminal experiences the transmitted signals as one signal propagated through a multipath channel. Additionally, each base station transmits a base station specific pilot signal. The mobile terminal carries out a channel estimation procedure for each received pilot signal and combines the channel estimates to obtain information how to equalize the received data signal. Then, the mobile terminal calculates equalization weights from the combined channel estimates and equalizes the received data signal.

Abstract: Rather than transmitting a large full Broadcast-Multicast Services (BCMC) Parameters Message (BSPM) containing a full set of BSPM parameters pertaining to all active BCMC flows within a sector on an infrequent basis, smaller-sized differential or partial BSPMs are instead transmitted. Differential BSPMs contain updated information for existing flows or information for new flows, and because of their smaller size, can be transmitted more frequently than full BSPMs. A mobile terminal receiving a differential BSPM updates the flows with the information contained within the differential BSPM or adds the information contained within the differential BSPM for a new flow. Partial BSPMs divide the flow information contained in a large full BSPM over a plurality of smaller-sized partial BSPMs, which are separately and sequentially transmitted at different times. A mobile terminal receiving these partial BSPMs then reconstructs the full BSPM from a collection of received partial BSPMs.

  • Patent number: 7039433
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining transmission times of signals transmitted by at least one radio transmitter BTS. In order to enhance the accuracy and reliability of estimates of transmission times or of changes of the transmission time of signals transmitted by radio transmitters BTS, it is proposed that a difference in the time level of estimates of the transmission times based on the measurement results of two different radio receivers LMU A,B is taken into account in a filtering of the estimates for obtaining an accurate value for the transmission times. It is further proposed that the changes of the transmission times estimated at different receivers LMU A,B is averaged for obtaining an accurate information about the changes. The invention equally relates to a corresponding radio communications system and to a processing unit for such a system.

  • Patent number: 7031736
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packet-data header decompression, particularly advantageous for use in connection with broadcast and multicast messages being transported through a radio telecommunication system operable according to the CDMA 2000 standard. When a mobile subscriber desires broadcast content from a content server, the mobile station sets up a PPP session for submitting the request and negotiating security protocols. When a subscription is granted, the mobile station receives broadcast content that has undergone header compression. In order to synchronize its decompressor, the mobile station receives a full header from a PDSN. The full header is preferably sent out on a periodic basis just for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 7024214
Abstract: Two computer systems in a network each have a local store that contains a copy of a data item that is to be synchronized. One of the computer systems may be, for example, a mobile device while the other may be a synchronization server. In order to determine whether to synchronize a data item, and what synchronization mechanism to use, one of the computer systems references a flexible set of rules that may be influenced by instructions from a network administrator or a mobile device user. The flexible set of rules takes into consideration the value of the data, the cost associated with synchronization, the security of the synchronization mechanisms, the security of the mobile device, as well as the location of the mobile user in dictating whether and how to synchronize.

  • Patent number: 7010360
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for automatically converting dates and times in electronic text messages to the local dates and times of the message recipients. For example, when a text message is sent to an intended recipient, a messaging server can recognize date and time strings in the message text string, if any. The server can parse the date/time information into Coordinated Universal Time (“UTC”) form. The server also receives locale and time zone information from the intended recipient's client application, and can send this information to the originating client application. The originating client application can use this locale and time zone information to convert the UTC date/time information from the message string, if any, to the localized date and time of the message recipient. The localized date/time information is inserted into the message string, and the resulting message is forwarded to the recipient.

  • Patent number: 6985695
Abstract: A satellite broadcasting receiver (LNB) receiving signal radio waves from broadcasting satellites is provided with a low noise amplifier (LNA) amplifying a received signal, and a frequency converting circuit converting an output from the LNA to an intermediate frequency signal for output. The LNA includes four amplifiers in the first stage respectively amplifying four types of different received signals. A power supply control circuit sets a current flowing through one of four amplifiers at a prescribed value and sets currents flowing through all the other amplifiers at 0. Thus, the output from only one amplifier is supplied to the amplifier in the second stage for amplification and further applied to the frequency converting circuit. Accordingly, the amplifiers in the first stage do not simultaneously consume currents, and a switching circuit is not necessary.

  • Patent number: 6983409
Abstract: In a method for repeat transmission of messages in a centrally controlled communication network including a plurality of terminals and a central station messages assigned sequence numbers are broadcast or multicast from the central station for reception by terminals of a participating group. As soon as a terminal detects loss of a transmitted message or an error in the transmitted message, it transmits a repeat request for repeat transmission of that message, which includes the sequence number of the lost or erroneous message, over another communication link, especially a point-to-point communication link. The central station repeats the message transmission of the lost or erroneous message but only until a predetermined maximum number of repetitions occurs within a predetermined time interval or until a positive acknowledgement of receipt of the previously lost or erroneous message is received.
