  • Patent number: 9420602
Abstract: A radio resources management algorithm, through a process of function evaluation and optimization, determines and assigns resource priority values to wireless resource requests. Resource requests may be arranged within a priority queue in accordance with the priority values. The priority queue may control access to wireless resources that are typically reserved for handing off ongoing calls between cells. The algorithm may supplement or replace an existing CAC algorithm. The algorithm may also determine whether sufficient spare handoff resources are available to fulfill a resource request. If sufficient resources are not available, the disclosed algorithm may implement one or more congestion control mechanism designed to free up handoff resources. If sufficient resources are not available to fulfill a resource request, the resource request may be accepted and arranged in the priority queue if it is of sufficiently high priority, or may be rejected if the request is of low priority.

  • Patent number: 9002391
Abstract: A wireless network allocates uplink resources to wireless communication devices (WCDs) based on power headroom reports, with more resources being allocated to WCDs reporting greater power headrooms. Each WCD may determine a respective power headroom as a difference between its maximum transmit power and a transmit power requirement for its current uplink resource allocation. However, a WCD may report an adjusted power headroom that is obtained, for example, by decreasing its respective power headroom by an adjustment value. The WCD may then receive an uplink resource allocation that is based on the adjusted power headroom that it reported. The adjustment value could be based on a priority level of the WCD, a priority level of data to be transmitted by the WCD, and/or an instruction from the wireless network. In one example, basic-priority WCDs report adjusted power headrooms so that more uplink resources are available for high-priority WCDs.

  • Patent number: 8923857
Abstract: In a User Equipment, frequency search is performed using the physical location (e.g. GPS position) and using information about the allocation of frequency bands and the radio access technologies used in these bands in different regions or countries. Hereby, frequency searching can be reduced to those bands and to the corresponding radio access technologies which are used in a current physical location. In order to ensure that UE is configured with the latest and most relevant regional frequency information, regional frequency information is transmitted to the UE over the air interface. In addition, information related to user's travel itinerary and user's travel history can be taken into account. By only frequency searching relevant frequency bands for the radio access technologies used in these bands battery power consumption can be reduced and frequency search speed can be improved.

Abstract: In systems and methods for managing call admission, a channel request comprising a first service level priority is received from a first wireless device at an access node. Channels of the access node associated with a second service level priority greater than or equal to the first service level priority are selected. A loading of the selected channels is determined, and the loading of the selected channels is compared to a loading criteria. When the determined loading meets the loading criteria, a preemption attempt is performed of a channel associated with a third service level priority less than the first service level priority.

  • Patent number: 8903440
Abstract: An ad hoc network with distributed hierarchical scheduling is disclosed. In one aspect, stations in a network mesh detect interfering neighbor stations and form interference lists. Stations transmit their interference lists. Scheduling stations schedule allocations for child stations in response to interference lists, received remote allocations, or a combination thereof. Coordination messages are transmitted including frame structure, allocations, and interference lists, among others. In another aspect, an ad hoc mesh network may be organized into a tree topology. In an example wireless backhaul network, this matches traffic flow. Distributed, hierarchical scheduling is provided where parents schedule communication with children while respecting already scheduled transmissions to/from interferers and to/from interferers of their respective children.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for service aware scheduling of wireless resources in a wireless network. According to the inventive method, a service request for service delivery of a service type is received (51). A performance to value relationship for the service type is determined (52) and approximated (53) with a scheduling weight function associated with the service type. Previous performance for service delivery related to this service request is evaluated and approximated with a performance estimate (54). A scheduling weight is determined (55) by introducing the performance estimate in the scheduling weight function. Resource scheduling is performed (58) following a step of comparing (56) scheduling weights for on-going service requests. The invention also includes a network node and a system for service aware scheduling of wireless resources in a wireless network.

  • Patent number: 8897796
Abstract: There is disclosed a system and method for improving wireless system capacity by reducing collisions where the Signal to Interference Ratio (SIR) is high in systems having a channel reuse of 1. By ordering the channel assignment in each of the interfering cells according to a pattern, for example, according to the distance from a base station (determined by power levels), the mobile stations will become paired on the same channel in a manner to reduce interference between them. In one embodiment, this intelligent assignment is accomplished by assigning mobile stations in one cell such that the mobile station having the strongest signal is assigned channel A while in the interfering cell the mobile station with the weakest signal is assigned to channel A. In another embodiment, certain preferred mobile stations are assigned either interference-free channels or channels paired with weak interference mobile stations.
