  • Patent number: 8565241
Abstract: A medium access control (MAC) architecture reduces transmission latency for data block retransmissions. A plurality of data blocks are received and temporarily stored in a first memory (e.g., queue, buffer). The plurality of data blocks are then transmitted. A determination is made as to whether each of the transmitted data blocks was received successfully or needs to be retransmitted because the data block was not received successfully. Each of the transmitted data blocks that needs to be retransmitted is marked and temporarily stored in a second memory having a higher priority than the first memory. The marked data blocks are retransmitted before data blocks stored in the first memory location.

Abstract: A wireless communication system includes: at least one base station that forms a plurality of cells of different frequencies such that the cells partially or completely overlap with each other; and a terminal that is capable of recognizing the cells of the different frequencies. The base station determines priority factors of the different frequencies of the cells, and transmits the priority factors to the terminal that has set a cell formed by the base station as a serving cell. The terminal receives the priority factors from the base station forming the serving cell, and selects a cell to be set as the serving cell next from among the cells based on the priority factors.

Abstract: Method and network node (2) for a communication network (1) providing a service in the communication network. The network node (2) is arranged to communicate with 5 context sources (12, 15, 16) providing input values for a triggered expression evaluation, and to provide a network service to communication devices (12, 15, 16) based on the result of the triggered expression evaluation. An evaluation result of the triggered expression evaluation is obtained upon a change to an input value, and the triggered expression evaluation comprises the evaluation of nodes in an expression 10 graph. Each internal node is assigned a priority based on the level of the node in the expression graph. Actual reception of a trigger by an internal node is scheduled based on the priority of the internal node, such that the internal node will only receive a trigger after internal nodes with a higher priority have received their associated triggers.

  • Patent number: 8532631
Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed which enable a user of a communications device to receive a notification of a priority and a context of a call before answering the call. A caller records a short phrase to be played on the callee's device either in place of ringing or following a predetermined amount of rings controlled by the callee's preferences. Among the callee's preferences is a selection of priority, such as among low, high, and critical. When callee's communications device is in any of these modes, every incoming call is intercepted giving the caller the opportunity to provide a short phrase for the context of the call and choose a priority level. This short phrase is played on the callee's communications device if the specified priority of the call matches or exceeds the current mode set on the callee's communications device, and the callee may answer.

Abstract: A method for controlling data transmission from a machine-type communication (MTC) entity over a radio network in a wireless telecommunications system is described. The method comprises receiving from the radio network a transmission cost parameter representing a cost associated with transmitting data over the radio network; and controlling data transmission from the MTC entity in dependence on the transmission cost parameter. Thus the MTC entity is able to select times and/or manner of data transmissions to reduce the overall cost of using the network. Furthermore, the radio network is able to dynamically manage traffic load by providing a cost incentive for transmitting MTC data when network resources are under utilised and applying a cost penalty for transmissions made while the network is relatively busy.

Abstract: A wireless digital communication system includes a base station in communication with a plurality of user equipment mobile terminals (UEs). The system prioritizes the forwarding of blocks of downlink data to designated ones of the UEs. The system employs adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) to achieve improved radio resource utilization and provides optimum data rates for user services. Blocks of downlink (DL) data are received by the base station which requests downlink (DL) channel quality measurements only from those mobile terminals (UEs) with pending downlink transmissions. The UEs respond to the request by measuring and reporting DL channel quality to the base station, which then allocates resources such that the UEs will make best use of radio resources. The base station notifies the UEs of the physical channel allocation indicating the modulation/coding rate and allocated slots followed by transmission of blocks of downlink data which are transmitted to the UEs.
