Abstract: A communication network comprises a management entity adapted for allocating a transmission resource to a terminal from a plurality of terminals. A mobility value is associated with each terminal of the plurality of terminals, this mobility value indicating a level of mobility of a terminal in the communication network. Next, a terminal is selected from among the plurality of terminals on the basis of a characteristic relating to a condition of instantaneous transmission of the terminal and of a characteristic relating to a condition of mean transmission of the terminal, while taking account of the mobility value which is associated therewith. Thereafter, the transmission resource is allocated to the selected terminal.

Abstract: A wireless network device comprises a first wireless communication device that includes a first radio frequency (RF) transceiver that generates a synchronization pulse and that transmits and receives data according to a first period. A second wireless communication device receives a signal indicative of the synchronization pulse and includes a second RF transceiver that transmits and receives data according to a second period. The second period is not equal to the first period and the second wireless communication device adjusts the second period according to the first period and the synchronization pulse.

  • Patent number: 8606219
Abstract: A method and system for managing access probe transmission in a wireless communication system. Upon determining that an external impact event, such as a severe weather event, natural disaster, criminal activity, has occurred, base stations may wirelessly broadcast a control signal that causes certain wireless communication devices served by the base stations to suppress transmission of access probes, while allowing other wireless communication devices served by the base stations to still transmit access probes. In a given coverage area, suppression of access probe transmission by one or more wireless communication devices may thereby free up access channel capacity to facilitate calls or other communications by other wireless communication devices, such as first-responder devices for instance.

  • Patent number: 8605729
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate improved multi-radio coexistence between a Forward Link Only (FLO) radio and at least one non-FLO radio associated with a wireless device. As described herein, Overhead Information Symbol (OIS) transmissions scheduled by a FLO radio (such as transmissions on a dedicated OIS control channel or data transmissions containing embedded OIS information) can be given higher priority than other transmissions that collide with the OIS transmissions. In addition, transmissions scheduled by a non-FLO radio can be prioritized above respective non-OIS transmissions scheduled by a FLO radio, or alternatively non-OIS FLO transmissions can additionally be prioritized above transmissions scheduled by a non-FLO radio according to a measured amount of degradation present at the non-FLO radio.

Abstract: Providing for a multipoint equalization (MPE) framework for coordinated multipoint (CoMP) transmission in wireless communication is described herein. The disclosed MPE framework involves distributed scheduling decisions for CoMP transmission, reducing complexity of scheduling coordination as compared with centralized scheduling techniques that coordinate scheduling decisions for multiple network base stations. Further, the MPE framework involves distributed computation of CoMP transmission coefficients, relying on a maximum of two backhaul hops to obtain information for the computation, and disseminate the transmission coefficients. The disclosed MPE framework shows substantial gains in various network deployments over conventional CoMP techniques.

  • Patent number: 8582492
Abstract: Methods and apparatus relating to scheduling of air link resources, e.g., traffic segments, in a wireless communications system are described. Various described methods and apparatus are well suited to wireless peer to peer networks in which traffic scheduling is decentralized, e.g. an ad hoc peer to peer network. An individual wireless terminal corresponding to a peer to peer connection which desires to communicate traffic signals makes a receiver yielding decision. The receiver yielding decision, in some embodiments, includes comparing a link quality estimate corresponding to its own link, to a dynamically generated receiver yielding threshold. The dynamically generated receiver yielding threshold is determined based on at least one of: quality of service information corresponding to its own link and historical link quality information corresponding to its own link.

  • Patent number: 8583157
Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for managing situations where spectrum use by one party is preempted by spectrum needs of another party. A revocation may be sent from a spectrum management system to secondary radio systems that are impacted by the presence of priority radio system. Remedial action may be taken if an acknowledgement of the revocation message is not received from a secondary radio system. Also, the secondary radio systems may transmit keep-alive messages to monitor operation of the communication pathway for the revocation messages.
