Multiple Base Stations Patents (Class 455/524)
  • Patent number: 8825106
Abstract: A mobile device may be configured with multiple access point names (APNs) including a roaming APN and a non-roaming APN. After a mobile device determines whether it is roaming, it may transmit a service request with the corresponding APN. The network may then select a profile based on the APN that may include quality of service parameters and other parameters for servicing the mobile device. The profile may be obtained from a local home location register or a remote home location register.

Abstract: An apparatus is operable to control power of a base station in a distributed Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) wireless communication system. At least one beamforming matrix is used for processing transmission signals to terminals included in a terminal set for a multiple access is determined. Minimum power values required for satisfying a minimum transmission rate of the terminals are determined. Whether optimum power values exist is determined using the minimum power values, the beamforming matrix, and a limit transmission power of the base station. When the optimum power values exist, transmission power values for respective terminals are determined in a range meeting the limit transmission power of the base station.

  • Patent number: 8818290
Abstract: The usage capacity of a base station operating in four-branch receive diversity mode is limited to a given number of channel resources, where each channel resource corresponds to an active user. In two-branch receive diversity mode, approximately twice as many channel resources are available, but the receiver sensitivity is less than with four-branch mode. Thus, four-branch mode provides better coverage but with less usage capacity. A base station is operated in four-branch mode to provide the best coverage while usage is low. When the number of users reaches a first threshold, prior to reaching the maximum number of users, the base station transitions to two-branch mode to accommodate an anticipated increase of users above the four-branch capacity, although with reduced coverage. When usage then falls below a second threshold, the base station transitions back to four-branch mode, again providing better coverage.

  • Patent number: 8818424
Abstract: Techniques are provided for utilizing one or more mobile devices to estimate distances between wireless access points (APs). Embodiments can, for example, enable mobile devices, wireless APs, and/or other systems to estimate a distance between two wireless APs using Round-Trip Time (RTT) measurements obtained by one or more mobile devices. Abstract: A methodology and system for performing radio network coverage surveys of multiple site candidates concurrently using one reserved channel based on reverse path signal strength measurements of a signal from a test mobile station transmitter (100) to a plurality of prospective base station receiver sites (200, 200?, . . . ) over a geographical area is presented. The instantaneous position, time-stamp and power of the Transmitter (101) is recorded and stored as it moves along a test route(s). Stationary Test Receiver(s) (201) tuned to the selected channel at each prospective site location (200, 200?, . . . ) save received instantaneous signal strength and, it's time-stamp so they can matched up to the position of the Test Transmitter (101) and used to ascertain received signal strength at each site. Results can be useful for ascertaining optimum site locations, antenna configurations, propagation model tuning, frequency planning, pilot planning and extraction of signal correlation statistics.

  • Patent number: 8693966
Abstract: A method for filtering out a useful signal of a mobile radio terminal from a plurality of superimposed signals having a signal quality received by base stations in a cellular mobile radio network. The superimposed signal of the mobile radio terminal is detected by base stations that are reached and the signal quality of the received and superimposed signal of every base station reached is determined. The signal quality of a selected base station is then transmitted to a decision element and a selection of a selected base station is made by the decision element to decode the useful signal of the mobile radio terminal. The invention also relates to a device for filtering out a useful signal of a mobile radio terminal from a plurality of superimposed signals received by base stations in a cellular mobile radio network.

  • Patent number: 8688164
Abstract: A radio base station (1), which is to be pre-blockaded, transmits a pre-blockade initiate notification to radio base stations (2A-2F) neighboring the radio base station (1). Further, the radio base station (1) reduces the transmission power thereof at a predetermined reduction rate at a initiation time of the pre-blockade. Meanwhile, each of the radio base stations (2A-2F) receives the pre-blockade initiate notification and increases the transmission power at a predetermined increase rate at the initiation time of the pre-blockade, the absolute value of predetermined increase rate being equal to that of the predetermined reduction rate at the radio base station (1).

Abstract: A method, a device, and a system for coordinated multi-point transmission/reception are provided. The method includes: obtaining a reference signal received power RSRP of cells in a measurement set of a user equipment UE; determining a coordinated set of the UE according to the RSRPs; obtaining a post-processing SINR of the UE in the coordinated set and a post-processing SINR of the UE in a serving cell; determining that the post-processing SINR of the UE in the coordinated set is greater than the post-processing SINR in the serving cell; and performing coordinated multi-point transmission/reception for the UE. According to the method, the device, and the system provided by the embodiments of the present invention, an impact of an interference suppression gain on CoMP can be suppressed effectively, and the solution complexity can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8660609
Abstract: There is disclosed a manner of controlling traffic by admission control in a communication network such as one operable according to GSM standards. When a call setup request is received from an MS, the BSC forwards the request to an MSC, which selects a MGw that is accessible to the BSC via an IP backbone. When notified of the MGw selection, the BSC runs an algorithm to assess the transmission quality of the IP backbone toward the MGw. The BSC then determines whether to reject the call setup request depending on whether the quality level is acceptable as determined by the algorithm. If the call setup proceeds, the MGw may run a similar algorithm to assess the quality of the IP backbone toward the BSC. The BSC and MGw may also check their own bandwidth limitations prior to running their respective algorithms.
