Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, on a radio resource block for Multi-BS MIMO, one of the coordinating base stations selects a mobile terminal at first, and informs the other base stations of the characterization information and the pre-coding information etc. of the selected mobile terminal, and the selection made by the other base stations will obey the selection result of the base station that selects at first. By applying the method and apparatus provided by the present invention, the joint selection of object terminals in the Multi-BS MIMO is realized, and such selection is distributed without any central scheduling device which is necessary in the central scheduling scheme. In addition, only very limited information exchange among the coordinating base stations is required to realize the present invention.

  • Patent number: 8630677
Abstract: A group of multiple base stations implements distributed and coordinated antenna beamforming selection to achieve increased performance. Each of the base stations in the group determines an associated optimal set of antenna beam direction parameters in a distributed manner based on local radio information exchanged between neighboring ones of the base stations. Each of the base stations transmits to one or more user equipments (UEs) served by that base station using its associated optimal set of beam direction parameters. The local radio information generated by one of the base stations indicates how the transmissions of its neighbor base stations affect the performance of the base station. The performance of a base station may be measured by the difficulty or challenge in maintaining a minimum desired signal quality, e.g., a minimum SINR, for the UE served by the base station.

The base station wirelessly receives a wireless video uplink request from a wireless video device in response to the pilot signal. The control system processes reservation data for the base station to determine if the wireless video device has a current wireless video uplink reservation and directs the base station to provide a wireless video uplink to the wireless video device if the wireless video device has the current wireless video uplink reservation. The base station wirelessly receives video data from the wireless video device over the wireless video uplink as directed by the control system.

Abstract: Methods of predicting future connectivity of a portable electronic device is described along with systems and devices for implementing the methods. The method includes receiving an indication of a plurality of radio scenes detected at the portable electronic device at different reference times. Each of the plurality of radio scenes identifies transmitters and associated signal strength of signals received by the portable electronic device at the respective reference time. One or more connectivity predictions can be retrieved from a corpus of pairs of a composite signature vector and associated connectivity information. Each of the one or more connectivity predictions can be retrieved based on a similarity between the associated respective composite signature vector and a query composite signature vector. A future connectivity prediction of the portable electronic device can be provided based on the one or more retrieved connectivity predictions.

Abstract: Technologies are presented for an architecture and infrastructure for a scalable, very high bandwidth, wireless network that can accommodate arbitrarily high geographic concentrations of high-bandwidth users. The architecture may include a network of highly localized service areas that communicate with a central access point through a hierarchy of aggregate-and-relay stages. Communications may be mediated by a hybrid combination of ad-hoc and infrastructure-network features that are supported separately within the framework of a standardized system, for example in the 60 GHz (millimeter-wave) band.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a communication network node for enabling automatic planning and handling of root sequences used at random access in a communication network system, wherein user equipments (18) are accessing a cell (19a) being served by said communication network node. Root sequence usage information from neighboring cells (19b, 19c) is acquired. Root sequence conflicts between root sequences used in said served cell (19a) and root sequences used in said neighboring cells (19b, 19c) are detected. When no conflict is detected, appropriate new root sequence(s) is/are selected. Otherwise, detected root sequence conflicts are resolved by deriving a new set of root sequences.

Abstract: A methodology and system for performing radio network coverage surveys of multiple site candidates concurrently using one reserved channel based on reverse path signal strength measurements of a signal from a test mobile station transmitter (100) to a plurality of prospective base station receiver sites (200, 200?, . . . ) over a geographical area is presented. The instantaneous position, time-stamp and power of the Transmitter (101) is recorded and stored as it moves along a test route(s). Stationary Test Receiver(s) (201) tuned to the selected channel at each prospective site location (200, 200?, . . . ) save received instantaneous signal strength and, it's time-stamp so they can matched up to the position of the Test Transmitter (101) and used to ascertain received signal strength at each site. Results can be useful for ascertaining optimum site locations, antenna configurations, propagation model tuning, frequency planning, pilot planning and extraction of signal correlation statistics.

  • Patent number: 8521139
Abstract: To transmit notification indicators for broadcast and multicast services, a base station maps the services to random sequences based on their identifiers. The base station generates the random sequence for each service based on a hash function or a PN generator and the service identifier. Each random sequence is associated with a specific location for sending a notification indicator in each frame. The locations for the notification indicators for each random sequence are randomized with respect to the locations for the notification indicators for each remaining random sequence. This randomness characteristic reduces the likelihood of false alarm. For each service, the base station sets the notification indicators to the same notification value in each modification period. The base station transmits the notification indicators for each service at the random locations determined by the random sequence for the service.
