  • Patent number: 8693386
Abstract: A near-optimal resource allocation method is provided for a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) relay scheme in which the source and relay nodes have only partial channel state information (CSI), obtained through finite rate feedback, and the powers of the source and relay nodes are constrained. Power on/off beamforming is employed at the source and relay nodes in which the receiving node feeds back the index of a beamforming matrix selected in accordance with the channel state. Using channel statistical information, the exemplary method allocates time between the first stage and the second stage of the relay transmission, and power between the source and the relay node. With only limited CSI feedback, the resource allocation method enjoys a considerable performance advantage over arrangements with no feedback.

Abstract: A signal repeating system for a wireless network includes an antenna configured for transceiving signals between a base station and a user equipment device. Repeating circuitry is coupled to the antenna and defines an uplink path for signals from the user equipment device to the base station and a downlink path for signals from the base station to the user equipment device. The repeating circuitry includes gain circuitry and gain control circuitry that is coupled to the gain circuitry. The gain control circuitry is operable for varying the gain of the repeating circuitry according to a waveform. Measurement circuitry measures the receive power in the uplink path over time from the user equipment device. Processing circuitry cross-correlates the inverted gain variation waveform with the measured receive power for determining the existence of traffic from user equipment devices in the uplink path.

Abstract: In one or more embodiments, a cellular signal is received and amplified by a particular amount of gain. A power level of the amplified cellular signal is measured and compared to a power level threshold. The particular amount of gain is adjusted based on the comparison to alter the power level of the amplified cellular signal by less than 1 dB. The cellular signal having the altered power level is then transmitted.

Abstract: A method of supporting frequency-selective repeaters (eNodeRs) in a wireless telecommunication system. A base station (eNodeB) classifies User Equipments (UEs) into two categories or lists of users: a white list containing UEs that may need the assistance of repeaters, and a black list containing UEs that do not need repeater assistance. The eNodeB transmits one of these two lists to the eNodeRs. The eNodeRs do not amplify resource blocks (RBs) scheduled for black list UEs. Each repeater may decide on its own whether to amplify signals for a non-black list UE by measuring signals from the UE and comparing them with predefined criteria.
