  • Patent number: 8577284
Abstract: A method and apparatus for method for providing cooperative reception diversity based on signal point rearrangement and superposition modulation performed at a relay station is discussed. A first technique performs superposition modulation at a relay station and a second technique employs signal point rearrangement at a relay station. The superposition modulation is a different type of superposition modulation than that employed by the transmitter of the signal. Similarly, the signal point rearrangement is a different type of signal point rearrangement than that employed by the transmitter of the signal. As a result of the superposition modulation or signal point rearrangement performed by the relay station, the reliability of a signal received by a reception unit at the destination receiver is improved.

  • Patent number: 8577285
Abstract: A method for transmitting data includes receiving at a first relay station first data from a parent station during a downlink period comprising a plurality of downlink zones. A network coding zone is one of the plurality of downlink zones and is located at an end of the downlink period, and the first data is received in at least one of the plurality of downlink zones other than the network coding zone. The method further includes receiving at the first relay station from a child station, second data during an uplink zone, and transmitting third data by the first relay station to the child station, during the network coding zone using a resource. The method further includes transmitting the third data to the parent station, during the network coding zone, using the resource. The third data results from the first data being effectively logically XOR-ed to the second data.

Abstract: A system comprising a source node (11) and a relay node (15a, 15b 15c). The relay node senses a radio spectrum to provide first sensing data indicating the availability of a signal channel at the relay node. The source node senses the radio spectrum to provide second sensing data indicating the availability of the signal channel at the source node. The source node or relay node generates a channel availability parameter based on the first or second sensing data, respectively. The channel availability parameter comprises fewer bits of information than whichever of the first or second sensing data is used to generate the channel availability parameter. The source node determines whether to send message information to the relay node based on a sensing result obtained by combining the channel availability parameter with whichever one of the first and second sensing data is not used to generate the channel availability parameter.

In a case where a retransmission control method is employed in consideration of adaptive MCS control in which the encoding rate can be changed, the scheduling section sets the MCS in accordance with CQI notified from the communication counterpart apparatus. When transmission data is encoded, the RV parameter bit-number setting section sets the number of bits used for signaling the RV parameter to decrease as the encoding rate of the first transmission is decreased and sets the RV parameter based on the number of bits. For example, in a case where the encoding rate R is R>2/3, two bits are set. In a case where the encoding rate 1/3<R?2/3, one bit is set. On the other hand, in a case where R?1/3, zero bits is set.

Abstract: Technologies are presented for an architecture and infrastructure for a scalable, very high bandwidth, wireless network that can accommodate arbitrarily high geographic concentrations of high-bandwidth users. The architecture may include a network of highly localized service areas that communicate with a central access point through a hierarchy of aggregate-and-relay stages. Communications may be mediated by a hybrid combination of ad-hoc and infrastructure-network features that are supported separately within the framework of a standardized system, for example in the 60 GHz (millimeter-wave) band.

Abstract: A report message may be transmitted with collaborated information related to the occurrence of an emergency event. A plurality of devices, such as mobile communications devices, that are out of range of a communications network can communicate via direct communication, such as device-to-device communication, to corroborate characteristics that are indicative of an occurrence of an emergency event. Information related to the occurrence may be collaborated amongst the plurality of devices. A transmitting device, which may be one of the plurality of devices that corroborates characteristics or collaborates information, may generate and transmit the report message comprising the collaborated information. A receiving device may provide the message over a communications network, or the report message may continue to be handed off between devices capable of direct communication, the message eventually reaching a device that is within range of the communications network.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of using relay that may continuously transmit data without time division based on superposition coding in a communication system. When transmission of a relay-supported user signal via a base station-relay link is performed, the method of using relay based on the superposition coding reuses a resource allocated to a direct-transmission user based on the superposition coding to perform the transmission. According to example embodiments, a separate resource for the base station-relay link may not be needed, and continuous relay transmission is possible without time division, thereby substantially increasing frequency efficiency and reducing a transmission delay caused by the use of the relay.
