Means Responsive To A Sensed Condition Patents (Class 460/1)
  • Patent number: 5878557
Abstract: An agricultural combine having an internal combustion engine for driving the various assemblies on the combine. An electronic engine controller is used to monitor and control the operation of the engine. Sensors provide inputs to the electronic engine controller. In response to the inputs from these sensors the electronic engine controller controls the output of the engine. The straw chopper, the propulsion assembly, the separating assembly and the harvesting assembly are provided with on/off switches that are in communication with the electronic engine controller. These on/off switches located in the operator's cab of the combine which are used to activate these crop processing assemblies. In response to an off signal by one or more of these switches the maximum power level is decreased accordingly.

  • Patent number: 5819512
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for sensing material build-up, such as the undesirable build-up of cotton in a mechanized cotton harvester. A tube is mounted for eccentric rotation adjacent an area where build-up occurs, such as near a doffer. The tube is biased by a spring into one position and is eccentrically rotated against the spring by forces applied to the tube by accumulating material, such as cotton. A switch is mounted within the tube, and, as the tube rotates, the state of the switch changes in accordance with the rotation. A signal generated by the switch is used to alert an operator.

  • Patent number: 5586033
Abstract: A neural network is trained with a general set of data to function as a general model of a machine or process with local condition inputs set equal to zero. The network is then retrained or receives additional training on an extentd data set containing the general set of data, characterized by zero values for the local condition inputs, and data on specific local conditions, characterized by non-zero values for the local condition inputs. The result is a trained neural network which functions as a general model when the inputs for the local conditions inputs are set equal to zero, and which functions as a model of some specific local condition when the local condition inputs match the encoding of the some local data set contained within the training data. The neural network has an architecture and a number of neurons such that its functioning as the local model is partially dependent upon its functioning as the general model.

Abstract: A distributing device for a chopper, in particular attachment chopper for harvester thresher, has several motor-adjustable guiding plates arranged in a deviating housing for guiding a chopped product, and a measuring device for determination of a wind direction and a wind speed. In order to compensate for wind influences on the exiting chopped product, the guiding plates are automatically adjustable in dependence on the measuring value of the measuring device in a corresponding direction so as to produce an asymmetric guiding plate adjustment relative to the longitudinal direction of the chopper or harvester thresher and/or to vary the total spreading width.

Abstract: In combination with a combine having an unloading conveyor including an unloading conveyor tube and a material moving member or auger, a control system for preventing unexpected movements of the unloading tube or unexpected operation of the material moving member following an interruption in power to the control system as through shutting off the engine of the combine. The control system of the present invention remains effective to prevent unexpected movement of the unloading tube and unexpected operation of the material moving member until the system is purposefully reset by the operator to effect operation of the unloading conveyor components. The control system of the present inventor also prevents inadvertent engagement of the material moving member upon moving the unloading conveyor tube from its transport position.

  • Patent number: 5343675
Abstract: A motion sensing safety interlock which disables one or more equipment elements of a ground-traveling machine upon stopping or slowing of the machine below a preselected ground speed. A speedometer cable interconnects a wheel of the machine and a monitor box in which is mounted for rotation by the cable a ferrous star wheel. Lobes of the star wheel pass between poles of a magnetic reed switch which changes state at a frequency corresponding to the rotational speed of the wheel. Electrical circuitry monitors the reed switch and disengages an electric clutch to stop the equipment elements upon the stopping of ground travel of the machine.

  • Patent number: 5318475
Abstract: A monitoring system for computing mass flow of cleaned grain in a harvesting machine such as a combine. The monitoring system includes a system for conveying clean grain from a grain receiving area on the combine and along a predetermined path of travel to a clean grain storage bin on the combine. A grain weighing station is interposed along the predetermined path of grain travel between the grain receiving area and the storage bin. The weighing station is displacable in response to clean grain passing thereover. A measuring apparatus, including a load sensor arranged in combination with and monitoring the displacement of the weighing station, computes the mass flow of clean grain into the storage bin as a function of the displacement of the weighing station.

  • Patent number: 5282389
Abstract: An improvement in an apparatus for processing an agricultural crop, which processing apparatus has structure for separating waste from a crop to provide a clean yield product and an elevator for raising and delivering clean yield product to a point of use such as a bin, or the like. The improvement is a structure including an actuating arm for producing a signal indicative of a pressure being applied to the actuating arm. The signal producing structure is mounted to the crop processing apparatus so that the actuating arm intercepts clean yield product discharging from the elevator. This pressure value can be correlated with other data, i.e. combine width, elevator speed, forward speed of the crop processing apparatus, material density (lbs/bundle) to generate a flow rate value that can be continuously plotted to generate a yield map for a field.

  • Patent number: 5083976
Abstract: In a forage harvester, a microphone is used to detect air-borne sounds waves generated by impacts of a rotating cutterhead on a shear bar during adjustment of the shear bar relative to the cutterhead. In response to the detected sound waves, the microphone produces electrical output signals which are applied to a control circuit, the control circuit producing output signals to selectively drive first and second motors to move one end or the other of the shear bar. The microphone may be mounted in positions remote from the shear bar, such as on side sheets defining lateral limits of the crop feed path, or in the interior of a crop feed roll. A vibration absorbing pad is provided between the microphone and its support to isolate the microphone from mechanical vibrations of the support.

  • Patent number: 4967544
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a speed controller system for the gathering unit of a harvesting assembly wherein the speed is controlled as a ratio of the ground speed of the harvesting machine. The system is provided with an electronic controller having a ground speed sensor and a speed sensor for the gathering units. The operator through a ratio selector selects the desired speed ratio and the controller controls the speed of the gathering unit accordingly. The controller can be ised with different harvesting assemblies such as a platform having a reel or belt pickup gathering unit; or a row crop header having a conventional row crop gathering unit or a corn picker row unit. The controller is also provided with a diagnostic routine for flagging problem areas with the system. The flagged problem areas are assigned a diagnostic code which is displayed in a defined order.
