Abstract: A supercharger control system is installed at the bottom front end of the engine, directly onto the crankshaft. An accessory drive belt around the accessory belt pulley rotates continuously to keep vehicle accessories operating. A second belt around a larger pulley drives the supercharger blower. When the dashboard mounted switch is turned on, electricity from the engine energizes an electromagnet, which compels engagement of the rotating accessory pulley with the supercharger pulley by means of a slide plate. The belt around the supercharger pulley then rotates, operating the supercharger. If the driver does not require extra power and performance delivered by the supercharger, the switch is turned off, stopping the flow of electricity. This shuts down the magnetic field, causing the pulleys to be disengaged and disconnecting the supercharger, while still allowing the crankshaft to operate the accessories.

The working medium pressure is adjusted as a function of a control variable provided by a pressure control valve or a pressure reduction valve, both within a nominal working pressure range and also within a maximum working pressure range that lies between the nominal range and a system pressure value. For the same change in the control variable, the working medium pressure is changed by a greater amount in the maximum pressure range than it is in the nominal pressure range. Thus, in the nominal pressure range a precise adjustment of the working pressure can be made, and in the maximum pressure range a larger working pressure adjustment can be made to respond to suddenly increased external forces that act on the hydraulic device.

Abstract: The invention involves an agricultural machine with a drive train to be coupled onto the power take-off shaft of a tractor, with a transmission integrated into the drive train. In these types of agricultural machines it is frequently necessary, after starting at a high torque, to select a lower transmission ratio, so that the agricultural machine can be driven at an optimal speed by an engine to which sufficient power is then still available for the propulsion for the tractor. In order to make this possible, it is proposed, in an agricultural machine of this type, to construct the transmission as a continuously variable conical-disk belt or chain transmission which is preferably fully hydraulic, is coupled with a hydraulic clutch, and has idle-shifting in the starting transmission ratio.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for a vehicle drive control apparatus changes in the transfer torque capacity of a power transfer device according to various states of operation with respect to at least one drive power source. The vehicle drive control apparatus includes a power transfer device that has a variable transfer torque capacity and the drive power sources that rotate a device wheel via the power transfer device. A controller is included that causes a vehicle to selectively run in a variety of run modes that differ in states of operation with respect to at least one of the drive power sources. The controller changes the transfer torque capacity of the power transfer device in accordance with the various run modes. According to the vehicle device control apparatus, a target oil pressure is raised by a predetermined amount when the mode of run is change, or when the vehicle descends in a direction opposite to a vehicle starting direction at the time of a hill climb start.

Abstract: Since a pressing force applied to a pulley has ability to regulate a rotation speed and an elastic force applied to the pulley has ability to regulate torque, by independently applying the pressing force and/or the elastic force to the single pulley, and externally regulating the pressing force and/or elastic force to arbitrary values independently, a practical speed-change range is widened irrespective of a type of belt and high effective transmission is achieved. The pulley pressure control system comprises pressure application means for applying at least one of a pressing force and an elastic force to each movable disk, in which the pressing force applied to the movable disk regulates a rotation speed of each pulley by shifting a position of the endless belt on the pulley and the elastic force applied to the movable disk regulates torque using a frictional force.

Abstract: A convertible transmission system for a vehicle having an input shaft for connection to an engine and an output shaft for delivering rotational power to at least one axle. The transmission has a plurality of available gear ratios resulting in a maximum number of available gear ratios. In addition, a programmable controller is provided for selectively controlling the transmission to operate in a first operating configuration utilizing a first predetermined number of the available gear ratios that is less than the maximum number of available gear ratios. Moreover, the programmable control can have additional transmission configurations by selectively modifying certain operating characteristics, including for example, available gear ratios, desired operating gear ratios, maximum torque limits, shift points, default starting gear ratio, data relating to a predetermined shift strategy, a coast down gear ratio, shift delay timing, and/or skip shifting.

A thrust ratio state of change identifying section 52 detects a peak of a thrust ratio caused by changing of the following pulley thrust, based on the thrust ratio and the following pulley thrust. The following pulley thrust is maintained such that the thrust ratio remains at the peak. This enables appropriate control of the pulley thrust.

Abstract: A bicycle features an automatically shifting transmission. The shifting is controlled by a controller. The controller has a number of ranges that comprise a subset of the available gear steps. The operator of the bicycle can select an appropriate range and the controller shifts gears within the range depending upon a preset map of bicycle speeds and gear steps. The operator can select other ranges as desired by upshifting or downshifting. The controller also has at least one cruising mode that decreases the likelihood of inadvertent shifting during operation of the bicycle at speeds within a preset range of speeds. In addition, the controller has an elapse mode that further reduces the number of available gear steps in a range during resumed operation after slowing below a preset speed or stopping.

Abstract: A variable speed transmission includes an actuator mechanism that can be remotely activated to cause engagement of a drive unit and to subsequently vary the speed of the drive unit using the same activation mechanism. The variable speed transmission can include a first pulley that has a first and second face that are movable relative to each other by activation of the actuator mechanism. When the first and second faces of the first pulley are located in a first position, a belt located on the first pulley remains motionless. The first and second faces can be moved by the actuator mechanism into a second position where the first and second plates engage the belt with enough frictional force to cause the belt to start moving about the first pulley. The first and second faces of the first pulley can also be moved between the second position and a third position such that the space between the faces becomes smaller.

Abstract: A variable speed mechanism for propelling an associated lawn mowing apparatus has a variable pitch pulley assembly, a belt which connects the variable pitch pulley assembly to a transmission, a control arm assembly for controlling the variable pitch pulley assembly, and a speed selector for selectively adjusting the control arm assembly. The speed selector is positioned corresponding to the desired lawn mowing apparatus ground speed. This creates tension in a cable which moves a control arm. When the control arm is moved, it rotates about a pivot shaft adjusting the position of a bearing cup which, in turn, adjusts the position of the moveable pulley half within variable pitch pulley assembly. Once the pulley assembly has been positioned, the effective belt diameter is set. If the effective belt diameter is increased, the speed supplied to the transmission is increased assuming a fixed pulley size on the transmission input.
