The ceiling drive beam is located between the segments and is continuous over the inside diameter of the face band and is connected on the face side to the face band. The result is a component that braces and stiffens the ceiling construction, so that other elements of the ceiling construction, such as the struts that support the face band, can be realized lighter in weight and can be manufactured more economically. • Patent number: 5592778
Abstract: A turnstile is disclosed which is easily adapted to operate in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction of rotation and which does not permit reverse rotation during operation. Resistance to rotation in the reverse direction is achieved by means of a drag shoe mechanism. As a rotor mechanism rotates about a corresponding stator mechanism it trails a drag shoe by a rigid connecting rod, or drag arm, across a bearing surface. The drag arm is disposed at a non-perpendicular angle. In reverse motion the angularly inclined drag arm forces the drag shoe to jam into the bearing surface and thereby act as a brake. The turnstile is provided with a quick release wrench, an safety release bolt which protrudes beyond the housing of the turnstile mechanism, and emergency release instructions labels clearly visible on the top and pillar of the turnstile.

  • Patent number: 5201906
Abstract: A control system for a revolving door includes an ultrasonic sensor having multiple sensor heads. The door has a housing and multiple movable compartments formed by door wings. The sensors emit energy waves into the housing in bursts, then receive echoes from any objects, including people, in the compartments. The sensors are activated when the door is activated by an authorized user. A controller stores a binary "echo" or "no echo" signal in memory in response to an emitted energy wave. The system determines a maximum height of an object or person in a compartment, then measures the total amount of time that it detects something above a selected percentage of the maximum height. When this time reaches a predetermined amount, the system interprets that as "piggybacking" (two individuals in one compartment). The system also interprets signals that go above, drop below, and then rise above the selected percentage again as piggybacking.

Included are means for identifying authorized personnel and driving the door for rotation to transport that authorized person in a selected compartment between the entrance and the exit. Means are included for sensing two or more persons in the selected compartment moving from a starting point between the entrance and the exit, the sensing means reversely rotating the door to return the selected compartment to the starting point.

  • Patent number: 4581849
Abstract: A motor drive and control system is set forth for use with revolving doors. To operate the door and revolve the revolving door panels a motor is coupled to the revolving door shaft. The motor is of the d-c type having a fixed, permanent magnet and a rotating armature. A relay is provided which is energized when a person enters the door and begins to push on a selected panel. Pushing on the panel partially rotates the shaft as well as the motor armature. Rotation of the armature generates the voltage to trigger a relay which, in turn, energizes the motor to rotate the shaft and revolve the panels approximately 180 degrees between the entrance and exit as determined by a timer to pass an individual through the door.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a revolving door device having arcuate screens arranged on diametrically opposite sides of the passage space constituting part of the revolving door closely adapted to the fixed outer walls of the device. Said screens being connected with each other through a partition wall divided up in three sections having the central section openable. The respective outer sections is aligned along a chord of the circular space so that when said screens are in a position for access to the respective passage spaces, a free through path may be obtained from entrance opening to the outer through the openable central section in case of emergency.

  • Patent number: 4534131
Abstract: A revolving door system has a central axis defining a center shaft and three wing hangers rigidly joined and extending in a equidistant spaced apart relationship about the center shaft's upper portion.A pair of facing substantially semicircular walls, spaced apart to define regions of ingress and egress, partially surrounds the wings and shaft on opposite sides. The system allows free passage of persons in an authorized direction while preventing, and driving out, intruders attempting to pass in an unauthorized direction. If an intruder enters the system in an unauthorized direction, the door stops before the intruder has free passage to the other side, reverses direction and forces the intruder back toward the entrance. In one configuration, the door then rotates in its forward direction to permit the authorized passenger to escape the system, but not far enough to allow the intruder to pass. In another configuration, the reversal of the door allows the passenger to escape from the side in which it entered.

  • Patent number: 4530183
Abstract: A controller driven revolving door system has facing spaced apart curved panels partially enclosing three equiangularly spaced center shaft coupled wings and defining entry and exit openings. The controller automatically selectively directs traffic flow through the entry and exit openings and is responsive to a microwave motion detector at the entry and a mat switch in a quarter-point position accessable to the exit. A DC motor is coupled by a gearing assembly to the center shaft. The controller monitors current passing through the motor windings sensing shaft rotation. Responsive to the mat switch, the controller applies a resistive load to the DC motor windings to regeneratively brake the rotation of the door. The controller thereafter reverses the polarity of the motor windings causing the door to rotate in a reverse direction and back any individual out of the exit area.
