  • Patent number: 4581003
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a container for filling with juice or the like at a high temperature includes applying a container body to a mandrel having an outer surface corresponding to the shape of a cylinder and a plurality of recessed portions located about the circumference of the mandrel. The recessed portions are inwardly recessed from the substantially cylindrical outer surface and are separated by a plurality of connecting portions corresponding substantially to the cylindrical outer surface. The container body is subjected to vacuum attraction through a plurality of apertures provided in the mandrel whereby the container body is drawn into the plurality of recessed portions to conform the shape of the container body to the shape of the mandrel. The container is thereafter disengaged from the mandrel by feeding compressed air through the plurality of apertures of the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4499704
Abstract: A corrugated box forming, loading and sealing machine, including a first or magazine and infeed section, a second or forming and loading section, and a third or closing and discharge section. In the first section there is stored and fed one-at-a-time flat corrugated blanks consisting of bottom, front, back and two top-half panels, all with extended edge panels, while glue is applied to the bottom, front and back edge panels. In the second section a product, such as cartons or plastic bottles, and two side panels, are loaded from opposite sides onto the bottom panel. When full, the loaded bottom panel is lowered through an opening whose four edge portions cause the front and back panels, and their respective edge panels to wrap around the product.

  • Patent number: 4267009
Abstract: An improved multi-station machine is disclosed for assembling ring-type closures from generally cylindrical paperboard cylinders and generally circular paperboard discs. The machine employs a rotatable dial plate, carrying eight mandrels and an improved ring clamping system, which dial plate is incrementally rotated by an automatic indexer assembly relative to the various operating stations which consist of a ring feed station, a disc feed station, an adhesive dispensing station, a curling station, a grooving station and a closure ejecting station. Means are provided for controlling the operation of the various stations so that they operate in substantial synchronism with one another and with the rotatable dial plate. The improved disc feed station automatically feeds the lowermost disc from a stack of discs to a position over a ring on the dial plate and simultaneously forms a peripheral skirt on the disc and positions it in an open end of the ring.

  • Patent number: 4259827
Abstract: A packaging apparatus for erecting, filling and closing paperboard cartons of a type that are initially supplied in a flattened condition and have four body panels, lower closure flaps; and an open top, and a separate plastic cover. The packaging apparatus opens and erects the paperboard cartons in an inverted position and advances the cartons while inverted along a path past a filling station. Covers are fed to a position below the cartons and are pressed into the open ends of the cartons as they are advanced along the path and before they reach the filling station. The lower closure flaps are thereafter folded to close the cartons.
