Abstract: A method of making reinforced paperboard cartons comprises the steps of advancing a web of paperboard along a path and progressively laminating at least one ribbon of reinforcing material to the advancing web of paperboard. The ribbon of reinforcing material, which also may be paperboard, has a width less than the width of the web of paperboard and is applied with adhesive at a selected location across the width of the web. The web and its laminated ribbon are cut into sheets of a predetermined size and the sheets are die-cut and scored with fold lines to form carton blanks. The fold lines may transition from non-reinforced to reinforced portions of the blank and a special transition zone is contemplated to accommodate the transition. The carton blanks are subsequently formed into cartons for receiving articles, the laminated reinforcing material providing reinforcement in selected portions of the cartons.

The lid can also include at least one outwardly extending lid flange with a contact surface at the periphery, as well as a lid sealing section. The base sealing section and the lid sealing section can together form a reclosable snap fit when the lid is forcibly applied to the opening of the base to generally close the opening. Further, the base flange and lid flange can be in at least approximate alignment when the opening is closed such that the lid and base flanges can be manually pulled apart to separate the lid and base and overcome the snap fit.

  • Patent number: 7678036
Abstract: A ripple bottom pizza box and the method of creating a pizza box with such a ripple bottom. A pizza box blank is provided that is made of corrugated cardboard. The corrugated cardboard has parallel corrugation waves that traverse a flat bottom section pf the pizza box blank in a first direction. A roller is provided that has multiple parallel roller heads. The flat bottom section of the pizza box blank is advanced under the rollers. The parallel roller heads press parallel depressions into the flat bottom section in a direction perpendicular to the first direction of the corrugation waves. The result is that when the pizza box blank is folded into a pizza box, the bottom of the pizza box is contoured with parallel depression lines.

Abstract: A cooler carton for items such as beverage containers is erected from a blank (11) having a unique configuration of panels (12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 41, 47, 56, 66, 96, 99), tabs (28, 29, 31, 32), flaps (111), creases (18, 19, 21, 22, 33, 34, 36, 37, 42, 48, 57, 67, 77, 87), perforations (23, 26, 27), cut-creases (24, 97, 101), and gussets (46, 52, 81, 91). The erected carton has top panels (12, 17) forming a top with a central longitudinal perforation line (23, 26) and oblique cut-creases and perforation lines (24, 27) extending from the ends of the central perforation line (23, 26) to the corners of the top. Flaps (111) are formed at respective end portions of the top by folded tabs (28, 29, 31, 32). In use, the carton is erected and filled with articles to be contained. An end user may open the carton by pulling up and back on the flaps (111) at the end portions of the top, which severs the oblique cut-creases and perforation lines (23, 26), and severs the top along its central perforation line (23, 26).

  • Publication number: 20090166366
Abstract: A main body of an opening and closing member is arranged so as to cover a handling hole from one side of a wall, such as a container wall. The opening and closing member is mounted to the container by engaging an engagement portion with a flange formed at the periphery of the handling hole. When a user inserts a hand into the handling hole and pushes the main body, the main body moves away from the wall, and the handling hole is uncovered. By so doing, the user can insert his or her hand into the handling hole and carry the container or other object. Then, when the user removes his or her hand from the handling hole, the main body moves toward the wall, and an outer periphery of the main body contacts the wall at the periphery of the handling hole and returns to the original position. Thus, the handling hole is covered from one side of the wall. By so doing, dirt, water and/or the like can be suppressed from passing through the handling hole.
