Abstract: A convertible sofa bed for recreational vehicles having a storage compartment under the seat bottom provides access to the storage compartment by enabling the raising the seat bottom and supporting the seat bottom by a ratcheting mechanism enabling the seat bottom to be raised to a storage access position, and raised again to unlock and then lowered to a seating position, this motion being accomplished without the use of a separate release for a dead bolt type lock.

Particularly, it refers to a novel folding mechanism for a bed-sofa, characterized by comprising a two portions structure both corresponding to a seat and a back or to form a flat surface for a bed, comprising such mechanism elongated platens, sliding and fixing plates, folding hinges and a pair of frames or structures corresponding to each one of said portions.

Abstract: Innovative mechanism for a divan bed enabling the adjustment in three positions, said “divan”, “relax” and “bed”, comprising padding elements supported by two frames; said frames can reciprocally move by means of two angle-bars, concurrent in a point; one of said angle-bars supports the frame forming the seat of the divan bed and the second one supports the frame forming the back of the divan bed; moreover comprising an articulated quadrilateral which supports said second angle-bar. The mechanism is characterised in that the angle-bars constitute a release mechanism which enables the three positions, stable respect to the divan bed base, while the quadrilater stiffly moves the angle-bars in other three positions. Therefore, the main feature of the mechanism is the univocal positioning between the angle-bars and the quadrilateral elements, without any other additional element as, for example, stop elements like ratchet or pawl.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a futon frame having a seat and a backrest, two arms and two legs. The six parts can be assembled by the user without the use of tools or small parts, this being a major distinguishing feature of the invention. Parts are held securely in place through the use of sockets into which are inserted corresponding parts of the arms legs and backrest. The backrest is maintained in a couch position by chains which extend from the arms to the backrest and which can be disconnected in order to allow the backrest to be lowered so that the futon frame forms a bed, these chains also allow for the adjustment of the backrest's angle of inclination. This is done by modification of the distance between the armrests and backrest through selection and placement on the backrest of various individual links of the chain.

The article of furniture is formed of a stationary, generally U-shaped upright support having a head frame with opposing ends from which side frames extend in mutual parallel alignment. A base frame assembly is mounted upon wheels or other roller elements and is comprised of a plurality or articulated frames, including a seat bench frame located remote from the head frame of the stationary support, and at least an intermediate seat back frame hinged to the bench frame. Preferably, a proximal back frame is also provided which includes within its structure a backrest that may be raised or lowered when the unit is used as a chaise lounge. The article of furniture is provided with rollers on each side of the stationary support near the distal extremities thereof. Cam latches are provided on opposing sides of the seat frame in longitudinal alignment with the rollers.

Abstract: Furniture frames, such as futon frames, are movable between bed configurations and sofa configurations. Furniture frame embodiments according to the invention provide a more level, continuous and secure sleep surface than currently available. The central gap present in many futon frames, for example, is eliminated, as is a fourth cross rail. Manufacturing costs are reduced, and reliability is improved. Additionally, furniture frame embodiments include at least one topple member that engages the top of a depending backrest side or side and does not put pressure on a hole accommodating a pivot pin connecting the backrest panel and seat panel. Mechanical advantage is improved. Further, a working end of the depending backrest side can be produced with a single cut, eliminating the need for multiple cuts and/or attachment of separate pieces, thereby lowering manufacturing costs. Corresponding methods provide similar advantages.

In the flat configuration the pieces serve as a couch or futon, and in the angled configuration they serve as a couch or sofa. The joined seat and back pieces move in rollers in appropriately positioned slots in side arms and legs which are joined at each distal end to the seat and back pieces. Each of the flat (sleeping or bed) or angled (seating or couch) position or configuration of the pieces is held stable for use by the rollers that become lodged in the ends of the respective guide slots. A solid block is attached below the back piece that engages the seat piece when the frame is converted from bed to couch. The block allows the seat piece to be used as an efficient lever to raise the back piece without major physical effort while the edge of the seat piece is pushed and used as a lever handle.

Counter absorbing elements are fixedly attached to the side of the seat frame absorbs stress or pressure from the slots as the pins move therein and this stress is transferred uniformly along the attached surface of the seat frame.
