Patent number: 5491853Abstract: A fitted sheet is provided for use with a mattress having a top panel dimensioned to overlie the top surface of the mattress and side and end panels which extend downwardly along the sides and ends of the mattress. A first bottom panel extends under the bottom surface of the mattress and is fixedly secured to the side and top panels so that a portion of one end of the mattress is sandwiched in between the bottom panel and the top panel. Similarly, a second bottom panel extends along the bottom of the mattress adjacent the opposite end of the mattress. Unlike the first bottom panel, the second bottom panel is only fixedly secured to one side panel and a portion of one end panel of the fitted sheet. A detachable fastener, such a zipper, is then used to secure the remaining portion of the bottom panel to the opposite side panel so that a portion of the mattress is sandwiched in between the top panel and the second bottom panel while firmly retaining the fitted sheet to the mattress.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1994Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Inventor: Therrel S. Patent number: 5230111Abstract: A method of constructing fitted sheet corners that cause the upper corners of the fitted sheet to draw more closely to the mattress than is designed into the regular plane of the fitted sheet seam. The recessed effect of this invention causes a slight depression in the softer, more pliable area of the mattress corner. Patent number: 5189744Abstract: A sheet or blanket construction for end fitting onto a mattress is provided with an expandable end pocket that extends along the width of the sheet and into which the mattress is fitted. An elastic material is incorporated into the edges of the end pocket, and along with integrally formed gathers, provides the necessary expandable characteristics of the pocket. This enables the sheet to be fitted onto commercially sized mattresses, and to tightly enclose the end of the mattress, without slipping out of position. Also, if desired, the sheet edges may be trimmed to a suitable width and then seamed. When users, particularly children, lie under the sheet it will not become dislodged, while providing adequate foot room in the pocket for the user.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1991Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Inventor: Donna D. Patent number: 5008966Abstract: A bedsheet is formed from a substantially rectangular piece of fabric. The fabric has attached to it an elastic band partially around its perimeter. The elastic band extends completely along the bottom edge of the fabric and at least partially along the two side edges of the fabric. The elastic band is stitched to the fabric to form an elasticized hem. Located at the other end of the bedsheet, on its bottom surface, are two Velcro strips. The Velcro strips attach to matching Velcro which is coupled directly to the foam mattress. The Velcro on the bedsheet couples with the matching strips on the mattress to hold the sheet firmly in place.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1990Date of Patent: April 23, 1991Inventor: Joyce Lepow
