Multilayer Patents (Class 5/500)
  • Patent number: 5033136
Abstract: A bedding system has provision for heating or cooling a person and for applying the heating or cooling only in areas of the bed where the person is located. A sealed three-ply heat transfer and insulating device covers the mattress, below the contour sheet or other covering which comes in contact with the person's body. A wicking contour sheet or other cover may optionally be used, capable of absorbing any condensation on the surface of the three-ply device. Between the lower two plies of the three-ply material is a channeled flow of coolant liquid, at a regulated temperature close to human skin temperature. Above these two plies, i.e. between the middle ply and the upper ply, is a sealed envelope containing slightly pressurized air. A light weight, well-insulated comforter is also recommended to isolate the sleeper from the thermal ambient environment.

  • Patent number: 5008141
Abstract: A cushioning material for mattresses is formed by needling a pile of crimped fibers to form a flat board, and then continuously and alternately bending the flat board to form a corrugated web. The corrugated web thus formed has a number of side-by-side contact portions and a number of bent portions connecting the side-by-side contact portions. The bent portions thus form a relatively soft surface portion of the cushioning material, and the side-by-side contact portions provide a moderately rigid portion of the cushioning material. The corrugated web may be held together by sewing, bonding or welding.

  • Patent number: 4962554
Abstract: A quilted cover, in particular a bed cover, with two outer sheets between which a filling is placed, is described. It is characterized in that, in the area quilting, a plurality of fiber aggregates of spherically tangled fibers are located, through which the two outer sheets of the cover are joined together. Conveniently, the two outer sheets are joined together in the area of the quilting with threads penetrating through the fiber aggregates, with the threads being sewn through the two outer sheets and the fiber aggregates. A cover, in particular a bed cover, is created in this manner, which may be produced more simply and more flexibly and thus less expensively than known covers, while containing no cold bridges in the quilting areas.

  • Patent number: 4777677
Abstract: The mattress pad and fitted bed sheet (31) are formed by placing equal lengths of mattress pad material (58) and bed sheet material (61) in overlying relationship and sewing the narrower mattress pad material at its side edges to the sheet material. The combined work product is then cut to length, the end portions folded over, and the corners bevelled and sewn together. An elastic tape (48, 49) is applied to each end of the work product so as to draw the mattress pad and fitted bed sheet about the mattress. The structure enables the mattress pad and fitted bed sheet to stay in proper position even when applied to a foldable mattress (24) of a sofa bed (20), when the mattress is folded into its hidden position inside the sofa bed.
