Abstract: A mattress protector having a top portion and a bottom portion configured to fasten together over the mattress and/or a mattress and box spring includes sides and ends extending from each of the top portion and the bottom portion. A fastener is also included on each of the top and bottom portions. The fastener includes a fastener assembly to seal the mattress against bed bugs and dust mites. When the top and bottom portions are placed around the mattress, and the fastener is secured, the entire mattress is surrounded by the mattress protector and protected from penetration by bed bugs and dust mites.

Abstract: A mattress cover and bed bug barrier combination formed of a fabric mattress cover having walls that define an enclosure with an elongated opening extending in at least one of the walls, a zipper attached to the cover for closing the elongated opening, the cover having seal regions laterally adjacent the distal portion of the zipper, a seal element secured to each of the seal regions, an external barrier flap having a first part fixed to the cover, and a second part foldable from an open position where it is spaced apart from the seal elements to a closed position where it is folded down to overlie and seal against the seal elements, and thereby provide a barrier to travel of bed bugs inwardly or outwardly of the cover through the distal portion of the zipper when the zipper in its closed state.

Abstract: Disclosed is a bed sheet and blanket system and method including a fitted foundation and a selectively detachable connecting sheet or blanket. Embodiments of the invention include a second connecting sheet or blanket disposed above or on top of the first connecting sheet or blanket. The fitted foundation, the first connecting sheet or blanket, and the second connecting sheet or blanket may be connected through interconnecting components such as zippers.

Abstract: A cover for a mattress includes a lateral panel for extending across the lateral surface of the mattress and a top panel for covering the top surface of the mattress. The top panel includes a breathable inner liner made of a non-woven material, a breathable outer shell covering the inner liner, and a silk floss fill retained between the inner liner and the outer shell. A mattress also includes the inner liner, outer shell and silk floss fill. A cover having an adjustment feature which includes a channel, an elongate elastic strip extending therein, a first connector and plurality of complementary second connectors disposed along the strip.

Abstract: A ventilated mattress pad for supporting an occupant includes a first and second layer of spacer fabric attached with a zipper to a fitted sheet, mattress cover or the mattress providing ventilation of excessive body heat and moisture away from the body and out into the room air. Integration of the ventilated pad to the sheet or mattress pad provides consistent location of the pad under the occupant while minimizing installation, removal time and effort. The ventilated pad is washable and can be re-attached to a new sheet, mattress cover or mattress when the sheet, mattress pad or mattress is worn out or damaged. The pad also reduces the average pressure on the skin surface.

Abstract: A sheet system having a primary sheet adapted to fit around a mattress and a secondary sheet for attaching atop the primary sheet. The primary sheet has a protective layer disposed between the top and bottom surfaces for providing moisture protection, and the secondary sheet has a protective layer disposed between the top and bottom surfaces for providing moisture protection. A plurality of attachment means connect the sheets together temporarily.

Abstract: A crib safety sheet and separable blanket with a sheet portion for selectively removing at least the blanket from the sheet, when the sheet is attached to a sleep surface. The separable blanket defining at least two edges for wrapping the blanket about an infant. The blanket may be removed from the sheet by separating the blanket, or by separating a sheet material portion attached to the blanket, from the sheet covering the sleep surface.

Abstract: A mattress cover for covering a portion of a mattress that generally has a top surface and a plurality of side panels. The mattress cover generally comprises a waterproof cover, a fabric cover and at least one fastener to secure the fabric cover to the waterproof cover. The waterproof cover has at least one waterproof layer or portion for covering at least a portion of the top surface of the mattress. The at least one waterproof layer or portion has a plurality of edges. The fabric cover is removably securable to the waterproof cover.

Abstract: A quilted zoned topper formed with a quilted panel and a memory foam is disclosed. The quilted panel has a ticking material, a backing material, and a support material having a degree of compression provided between the ticking and backing materials. The ticking material, the support material and the backing material all are quilted together by a stitching pattern providing an increased amount of stitching in a center section of the quilted panel than adjacent head and foot sections of the quilted panel such that the support material pre-compresses in the center section thereby defining a pocket. The memory foam is provided in the pocket. A mattress provided with the quilted zoned topper is also disclosed.

Abstract: An occupant transfer device 34 for use on a host mattress 20 having a top side 22 and a flank 24 is in the form of a fitted sheet. The device has a top 36 for covering the top side of the mattress and a skirt 38 extending from the top. The top and skirt each have an occupant side 40, 44 and a mattress side 42, 46. Substantially all of the mattress side of the top exhibits relatively low friction; the occupant side of at least the top exhibits relatively higher friction.

Abstract: A quilted zoned topper formed with a quilted panel and a memory foam is disclosed. The quilted panel has a ticking material, a backing material, and a support material having a degree of compression provided between the ticking and backing materials. Abstract: The Smart Zipper is designed to seal off all openings for bugs to escape from. The encasements come with a 3 sided zipper that come around and ends at the extended zipper part. The extended zipper is about 5 5/12 inches and has an extra lining inside to eliminate all spaces. Attached to the zipper extension is Velcro that folds in half to create a blockage in the path way. The concept in the design was to leave no passage way but eliminating all the free space and also add the seal wall for guaranteed protection.

The unitary sheet assembly includes a bottom sheet and top sheet connected together as one unit. A plurality of fasteners around the bottom sheet permit the detachable securment of the bottom sheet to the mattress band to facilitate placing the unitary sheet assembly on the mattress. This particular construction and arrangement is advantageous to a person that is physically disabled and permits easy changing of bedding without having to lift the mattress.

Abstract: The fitted sheet system is adapted for ship bunk systems and comprises either a single flat sheet or two single sheets sewn together. The sheet includes two opposed top ends and two opposed sides. The opposed ends include hospital corners to provide a tight fit. The top sheet is sewn along a side edge of the bottom sheet and is adapted to fold over the mattress top. Four equally spaced matching slots, two on each longitudinal side, are disposed on the bottom edges of the two sides for receiving straps. Alternatively, straps are provided at the bottom of the sheet for tightening the sheet over the mattress. A pillowcase is attached to the sheet. A decorative hem displaying a logo is disposed on the fitted sheet.

The flexible system includes a textile or fabric frame for covering portions of a head side, a foot side and intermediate sides of the mattress. The textile or fabric frame forms an opening around a portion of a top surface of the mattress, where the opening has an inner peripheral edge. The flexible system further includes a cover sheet positioned over the top surface, and having an outer peripheral edge that is removably attached to the inner peripheral edge of the opening of the frame. The appendage(s) of the character are supported on the textile or fabric frame at one or more of the head side, the foot side and the intermediate sides of the mattress.

Abstract: A temperature controlled stroller blanket for controlling the ambient temperature around a child in a stroller is disclosed. The blanket is configured to be placed beneath the child within the stroller compartment. The blanket is constructed with a plurality of sealable pockets. The pockets are sized to receive and hold temperature packs for producing heat or extracting heat (cooling). The blanket also preferably includes a plurality of slits configured to permit passage of the straps of the stroller harness system to secure the child in the stroller. The temperature packs act to warm or cool the ambient air around the child, creating a comfortable environment within the stroller compartment. Once the packs expire, they may be removed and recharged or replaced.

Abstract: A side cover apparatus includes an electric mat, a curtain-type side cover attached to an outer periphery of the electric mat, and a contracting portion disposed on an inner periphery of the side cover. The side cover conceals side surfaces of the electric mat and a bed mattress such that the combination of the electric mat and the bed mattress appears as if the combination is a single bed mattress.

Abstract: A fitted sheet for a mattress comprises a rectangular panel of knit material having a central rectangular area extending from one end of said panel to the other end thereof. Side margins flank the central area, and folded under said central area and joined thereto by seams extending across each end of the central rectangular area. The sheet is characterized in that the seams at each end of said central rectangular area are arcuate.

Abstract: A resting method and apparatus for a young child. The young child can be either a newborn, infant, or toddler. The resting apparatus will attach to a cushion such as a mattress, or other back supporting device which is generally associated with a crib or other child's sleeping environmental structure. The resting apparatus has a base sheet or cover which attaches to the cushion. On top of the base cover is attached a pouch section. The pouch section is sized to allow the child to fit comfortably within the interior of the pouch from the child's neck to the child's feet. The pouch fits securely against the outer surface area of the child. The child is laid on its back within the pouch. The arms and legs are held in longitudinal alignment within the pouch. The pouch is designed to restrain the child from overturning from its back position to a front facing position.

A cover (26) for such a piece of furniture has a sheet (37) and a soft layer (36) situated therebeneath. The soft layer (36) has an elasticity which is opposed to rolling up, so that the layer (36), after rolling up with the sheet (37), automatically unrolls over the lying surface. An arrangement is thereby achieved which is simple and is convenient to use.

Abstract: An air inflatable mattress and mattress coverlet are provided for the prevention and treatment of decubitus ulcers (i.e., pressure sores or bedsores). The mattress incorporates a user selectable static or alternating air powered support surface for more uniformly redistributing pressure exerted on a patient's skin. The mattress coverlet encompasses a low air loss feature independent of the mattress's user selectable air powered support surface. Such low air loss feature provides a patient contact surface exhibiting a high moisture vapor transfer ratio in conjunction with a forced air flow to aid in reducing the moisture and heat near the patient's body. Both the mattress and mattress coverlet are driven by an external control system which houses the user controls, as well as the necessary pumps, regulators, and valving.

The coverlet is mounted tightly on the body and would not be shifted by persons' movement on the inflatable mattress.

A mattress pad according to the present invention has: i) a central rectangular panel comprising a plurality of layers including an upper textile layer, a lower textile layer, and a batting layer quilted to at least one of the upper and lower textile layers. Side panels depend from the central panel, comprising a single layer of a textile fabric. End panels are defined by extensions of the central panel. The side panels are joined to the end panels by seams extending in a transverse direction in relation to the rectangular central panel.

Abstract: A combination flat sheet, fitted sheet and bed skirt includes a fitted sheet having a top and four sides, each side having a lower edge, the four lower edges being provided with an elastic band, the fitted sheet dimensioned to fit over a mattress supported by a box spring. The bed skirt is attached only to the left, right and foot peripheral edge of the top of the fitted sheet and extends downward in sufficient length to cover the left, right and foot sides of the fitted sheet and the left, right and foot sides of the box spring. The flat sheet is attached only to the foot edge of the top of the fitted sheet and is dimensioned such that its left, right and foot flaps extend downward in sufficient length approximately to or just beyond the box spring. The length of the flat sheet in the head direction is of sufficient length such that the sheet can be folded over itself at the head of the bed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a disposable fitted protective device that may be manufactured of antibacterial, ant-microbiodical and hypoallergenic material for bedding and furniture comprising an impermeable layer bonded to an absorbent fibrous layer. Each of the sides is folded to form spaced apart walls with the sides fastened together, such as sown or bonded, at the corners with the impermeable material positioned on the interior side. The washable incontinence device for bedding, furniture cushions and pillow covers is comprised of cotton or cotton poly blend surface with an absorbent layer of poly rayon or poly with a waterproof vinyl or elastic type material sewn, bonded or laminated barrier back that is machine washable and reusable with elastic for fit.

Abstract: A disposable sheet has a draw sheet or chux attached thereto. Preferably, the chux is constructed from three layers, a bottom, middle and top layer. The top layer is moisture permeable and the middle layer is absorbent. The top layer of the chux and the sheet itself may be integrally connected. Fluids flow through the chux top layer to the middle layer. The chux bottom layer may be waterproof to prevent fluids from leaving the middle layer. A quilted pattern may be applied to the chux to for aesthetic reasons or to direct fluid flow.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a patient transfer system. The patient transfer system is positioned on a support area of a first underlying surface's top surface. The support area (a) receives a patient and (b) is defined by a head end, a foot end, a first side and a second side. The patient transfer system has a base sheet, a transfer sheet a support sheet, a first attachment mechanism, and a second attachment mechanism. The base sheet covers the support area and has (a) a pivot line positioned near or at the first side and (b) a transition line positioned near or at the second side. The transfer sheet has (a) a proximal end that connects to the base sheet at pivot line and (b) a distal end that extends to the transition line. The support sheet has (a) a proximal end that connects to the transfer sheet above the transition line and (b) a distal end that extends at least to the pivot line.

Abstract: A generally impermeable mattress cover having expandable sidewalls is provided to enclose a mattress to provide protection against allergens, dust mites, fluids, and other spills and spoils. The cover comprises generally impermeable top and bottom walls, and sidewalls connected at edges between the top and bottom walls. The sidewalls are formed of a double wall construction comprising a generally impermeable inner wall of a fixed height joined at edges to an elastic outer wall. The outer wall stretches and the inner wall extends to accommodate mattresses of different thicknesses. The outer wall can be relaxed and the inner wall retained neatly against the mattress and by the outer wall. An aperture can be provided in the bottom wall for allowing insertion and removal of a mattress and a fastener can be used to close the aperture.

Abstract: An anti-microbial/-allergenic sleep set and process of forming thereof is provided and comprises a mattress and box spring, each having an allergen-impermeable barrier layer incorporated within. The mattress comprises a support apparatus, a top and bottom panel, first and second flanges, a border, a foam layer, and a barrier layer. The border is positioned around the support apparatus, and is attached to the top and bottom panels. The foam layer, which can comprise a latex emulsion, is positioned between the support apparatus and the top and bottom panels. The barrier layer comprises a material configured to be impermeable by allergens, and is attached at its outer periphery to the interior facing sides of the top panel, the bottom panel, and the border.

Abstract: A mattress pad positionable atop a rectangular mattress which better accommodates diverse weights and sizes of the human anatomy for enhanced comfort. The mattress pad includes a flexible bottom sheet having a size and shape substantially similar to that of a top surface of the mattress. A flexible fabric top sheet is connected to the bottom sheet by peripheral stitching along common perimeter side, head and foot margins. A plurality of generally side-by-side body supporting chambers are each defined by peripheral stitching and spaced lines of continuous stitching which interconnect the top and bottom sheets. Each chamber is filled with a loose stuffing of fibrous or synthetic material which is movable within the chamber and capable of localized accumulation within the chamber by manual body or hand manipulating pressure against the top sheet. Preselected nominal thicknesses of each of the chambers provides the comfort and accommodation to each portion of the human anatomy.

Abstract: In accordance with the instant invention, there is provided a mattress topper which is designed to be placed atop a mattress and/or box spring combination. In the preferred arrangement, the topper consists of a sandwich of three layers. The outer layers are preferably comprised of open cell foam of a thickness about equal to one inch or so. The inner layer is an impermeable central liner which is preferably made of a material such as plastic. The function of the central liner is to prevent the migration of fluids from one side of the topper to the other. Thus, although the foam upper layer is very absorbent, an inadvertent spill or other deposit of moisture will be blocked in its migration through the topper by the central waterproof member, thereby protecting both the lower member and the mattress below from exposure to the moisture. In a preferred embodiment, the inner layer is comprised of a foam stiffener core encased by an impermeable wrapping.

Abstract: A wheeled carriage for supporting a patient in a substantially horizontal position includes a patient support having head and foot ends and a wheeled base supported by castered wheels. Auxiliary wheels are suspendably mounted on a wheel support structure with the axis of the auxiliary wheels spaced from a midpoint of the wheeled base. A control apparatus controls the wheel support structure to move the auxiliary wheels between a first deployed position whereat castered wheels at one end of the carriage are elevated from a floor surface, and a second stored position with the auxiliary wheels out of engagement with the floor surface. The wheeled carriage includes a drive motor for powering the auxiliary wheels. A drive member applies force to a load cell on the wheeled carriage. The load cell outputs a drive signal to drive the auxiliary wheels.

Abstract: A bed sheet with predetermined regions of friction material for aiding any person, and in particular the elderly, disabled, and frail, in sexual activity and in changing body position, for example, in shifting from lying on the stomach to lying on the back. A traction area across the foot of the bed sheet allows individuals to gain better traction with their feet, ankles, and legs. Any substance may be used to make the traction areas, including mildly abrasive materials in a flexible matrix, latex, and hypoallergenic plastic. The bed sheet with traction areas is washable and, preferably, non-allergenic. The traction areas may blend with the color and composition of the sheet so that the effect is esthetically pleasing.

Abstract: A fitted sheets combination includes a fitted bottom sheet and a top sheet. The bottom corners of the top sheet are formed of a widthwise cut edge and a lengthwise cut edge meeting at an angle of more than 90° and being attached to each other along respective lengths. The bottom corners of the top sheet are attached to the bottom corners of the bottom sheet to form a foot pocket at a bottom area of the combination.

Abstract: A quilt assembly is divided into pockets (10), each containing a removable fabric sleeve (24) containing fill. Sleeves can be individually laundered and dried. Connectors in the sleeve (24) maintain a substantially flat profile to stabilise the shape of the sleeve and reduce unwanted fill movement.
