Patent number: 8389437Abstract: A method of preparing a catalyst support is described comprising washing a precipitated metal oxide material with water and/or an aqueous solution of acid and/or base such that contaminant levels in said precipitated metal oxide are reduced. The method may be applied to precipitated alumina materials to reduce contaminants selected from sulphur, chlorine, Group 1A and Group 2A metals. The catalyst supports may be used to prepare catalysts for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of hydrocarbons.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2011Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Johnson Matthey PLCInventors: John L. Publication number: 20130053237Abstract: The present invention relates unique pore structures in nickel supported on alumina with the negligible formation of macropores. Incorporation of additional elements stabilizes the pore structure of the nickel supported on alumina. Additional element(s) were then further added into the nickel-supported materials. These additional element(s) further stabilize the pore structures under heating conditions. The improvements of pore structure stability under heating conditions and negligible presence of macropores limit the sintering of nickel metal to a mechanism of impeded diffusion. The negligible presence of macropores also limits the deposition of alkali metal hydroxide(s)/carbonate(s) to the outer shell of the catalyst pellet. Both of the negligible presence of macropores and improvement in pore structure stability allow for prolonging the catalyst life of these nickel supported on alumina catalysts of the present invention for reforming hydrocarbons.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2010Publication date: February 28, 2013Inventors: Wen-Qing Xu, David Beijia Xu

Patent number: 8383544Abstract: Nitrogen oxide storage catalysts are used to remove the nitrogen oxides present in the lean exhaust gas of lean-burn engines. As a result of the stress due to high temperatures in vehicle operation, they are subject to thermal aging processes which affect both the nitrogen oxide storage components and the noble metals present as catalytically active components. The present invention provides a process with which the catalytic activity of a nitrogen oxide storage catalyst which comprises, in addition to platinum as a catalytically active component, basic compounds of strontium and/or barium on a support material comprising cerium oxide, said catalytic activity being lost owing to the thermal aging process, can be at least partly restored. The two-stage process is based on the fact that strontium and/or barium compounds formed during the thermal aging with the support material, which also comprise platinum, are recycled to the catalytically active forms by controlled treatment with specific gas mixtures.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2008Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Umicore AG & Co., KGInventors: Stephan Eckhoff, Meike Wittrock, Ulrich Goebel, Ina Grisstede, Ruediger Hoyer, Wilfried Mueller, Thomas Kreuzer, Maria Cristina Casapu, Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt, Marek Maciejewski, Aflons Baiker

Publication number: 20130023407Abstract: The present invention provides catalysts, reactors, and methods of steam reforming over a catalyst. Surprisingly superior results and properties obtained in methods and catalysts of the present invention are also described. For example, a coated catalyst was demonstrated to be highly stable under steam reforming conditions (high temperature and high pressure of steam). Methods of making steam reforming catalysts are also described.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 1, 2012Publication date: January 24, 2013Applicant: VELOCYS INC.Inventors: Junko M. Watson, Francis P.
