Abstract: The present application relates to an attic door assembly. The attic door assembly includes a jamb having an interior surface. The jamb is installed adjacent to a pull-down attic door. The attic door assembly also includes a rabbet disposed along a perimeter of the interior surface of the jamb and a door hingedly coupled to the jamb. The door includes a frame, a panel coupled to a first side of the frame, and a foam board coupled to a second side of the frame opposite the panel. The foam board, the panel, and the frame in combination define an interior space. An insulating material is disposed within the interior space. Finally, a flexible sealant is applied to the interior surface. The flexible sealant is operable to seal an interface of the rabbet, the jamb, and the door.
Abstract: A curtain wall including an extruded aluminum sill having a first channel for receiving a glazed panel, a sill anchor/access portion for securing the sill to a poured concrete slab or slab wall, and toward the interior side of the sill, a wireway is defined in part by the sill and in part by a wireway cover for concealing power and/or data/telecommunication cables. The wireway cover may also include outlet devices or plugs arranged in a longitudinally spaced relationship.

Abstract: An expandable frame for a storm door mounted onto the header and door jamb in an entrance, a frame kit, and method of installation. The expandable frame includes an expandable header assembly, an expandable lock-side assembly and a hinge-side piece. The header assembly includes a frame mount and a header stop mounted onto the underside of the header, the hinge-side piece is mounted vertically against the door jamb on one side of the entry, and the lock-side assembly includes a lock-side stop and a frame mount mounted vertically onto the door jamb opposite the hinge section. A user can adjust the position of the header assembly and lock-side assembly to accommodate a door having smaller dimensions than the height and width of the entrance.
Abstract: A double door assembly having an active door and a passive door includes an astragal that is formed of a composite of aluminum and wood. The astragal is formed of an aluminum rail with a U-shaped cross section that receives a wooden insert. The astragal is mounted to the passive door such that the U-shaped cross section opens to the active door and the wooden insert presents a mounting surface for hardware.
Abstract: Some aspects relate to weather seal systems for forming water barriers and air barriers. Some air barriers include a sill portion, a frame portion, and a transition portion extending between the sill and frame portions, where the transition portion extends inwardly and downwardly from the frame portion of the air barrier, toward an interior side of an associated door assembly, to the sill portion of the air barrier. The transition portion optionally provides a buffer zone, or transition zone of air at a greater spacing from the water barrier. In some embodiments, the transition zone is equilibrated to external pressures and supplies substantially dry air to air leaks in the air barrier.
Abstract: A flexible door panel cold storage door system incorporates a flexible movable door panel having an internal support frame assembly and the door panel has a plurality of gasket sections removably attached to a cold space surface of a door panel jacket with each gasket section having at least one ferrous gasket target and the gasket sections are aligned and cooperate with a plurality of electromagnets that are mounted in a doorframe assembly when the door panel is in a closed position. The electromagnets are mounted in wells in the doorframe assembly and are powered on when the door panel is in the closed position and the wells are interconnected by a ventilation channel that conducts air heated by operation of the electromagnets through the ventilation channel and into and through a bottom sweep assembly of the door panel in a closed loop.

The door opening has a horizontal top side and a horizontal bottom side, with the horizontal header beam defining the horizontal top side. The door comprises a top panel, a middle panel, a bottom panel, a first horizontal hinge member, a second horizontal hinge member and a third horizontal hinge member, each panel having a horizontal upper edge and a horizontal lower edge. The door is in the closed position when the top panel, the middle panel and the bottom panel are vertically aligned with one another and hanging downwardly from the horizontal header beam in a vertical plane of the door opening, with the horizontal upper edge of each panel above the horizontal lower edge of each respective panel, and the horizontal lower edge of the bottom panel is located in the lowermost position proximate to the horizontal bottom side of the door opening.
Abstract: A weatherproofing system for installing windows and doors is described and has a front seal and a real seal. The seals include clear, pressure-activated adhesives and seal against attaching hardware. The rear seal has a is self-setting foam web and molds to the flange of the window unit. When installed, the foam is compressed between the inner window frame and rough opening and between the window flange and the wall surface adjacent the rough opening. The system extends beyond the flange of the window unit and receives the weatherproofing membrane thereover. The weatherproofing system acts as a sealed bridge between the membrane and the window unit precluding entry of air and water. Both the foam and the adhesive have fire retardants in the formulation thereof. The rear seal is provided in a tape form with a self-skinned foam layer and a sheet form with polymeric covering web.

Abstract: A storm door assembly for a doorway to a building comprises a frame configured for hinged mounting at a doorway of a building. The frame comprises an opening through the frame, the opening comprising a depth and at least two channels disposed in parallel around an inner surface of the depth. At least two removable frame inserts are provided, each comprising a front surface, a rear surface, and an insert perimeter comprising a plurality of recesses positioned about the perimeter. A plurality of twisting cams are each disposed within one of the plurality of recesses and not extending beyond the front and rear surfaces, and the at least two frame inserts are each held in a fixed position with respect to the frame via placement of the twisting cams within the at least two channels.

Abstract: A door security system serves to substantially improve the reliability of the entire door assemblies with non-standard door jamb thicknesses. The system may comprise up to four or more components. An adjustable door jamb shield may be mounted around a door jamb on the side of the door jamb corresponding to the door slab free swinging edge. Another adjustable door jamb shield may also be mounted on a door jamb on the hinge side of the door jamb. The adjustable shields comprise attachable sleeves that wrap on three sides around the door jamb to reinforce and stabilize the door system.
Abstract: A system for framing a porch using concealed fasteners and concealed or partially-concealed framing elements on support posts. The framing elements have a small cross section, generally shaped like the letter C with a slot on one side and a spline groove in one of the opposing corners. The framing elements are attached to a support post by screwing plural, spaced-apart buttons into the posts and then snapping the button heads into the slot of the framing elements. The framing elements may be applied to the surface of the posts or, because of their small size, may be put into grooves formed in the sides or corners of the posts and concealed on one or more sides by trim boards.

Abstract: A set of extruded interlocking moldings joins together panels of framed glass and/or framed glass doors. A first molding has a channel along an edge of one face and a groove in the opposite face. A second molding has a tongue extending along an edge of one face and a flange along an edge of the opposite face. The channel of the first molding is configured to receive and hold the tongue of the second molding to secure the moldings together as the panels are aligned. The flange of the first molding snaps into the groove of the second molding when the moldings are rotated to a predetermined angle with respect to each other.

Abstract: First and second frame sections are to be joined at a corner of a glazing. Each section has a front base piece, a rear base piece, and a glazing stop piece. The front base piece is anchored to a support structure of a building and has a glazing channel facing the safe side of the window, to receive therein the glazing. The glazing stop piece is secured to the front base piece and thereby holds the glazing in its channel. The rear base piece is secured to the front base piece and thereby laterally closes the frame section. The base pieces are shaped so that an end portion of the front base overlaps an end portion of the rear base and a number of fasteners are installed through these end portions to secure the base pieces to each other. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

A panel, also referred to as a glazing, may typically be a transparent part of a door, window, or skylight usually made of a transparent or translucent material, e.g., glass, plastic, acrylic, polycarbonate structured sheet, etc. Alternatively, a pre-assembled skylight, window or door, may include an exterior panel and an enhancement panel in a pre-existing manufactured package to be installed as a single new package. The enhancement panel may create a thermal cavity between the exterior panel and the enhancement panel. Such a thermal barrier may greatly improve the thermal properties of the overall door, window or skylight.
Abstract: A window or door system includes a frame adapted to be received within a window or door opening. A window or door unit is disposed on the frame, and a retainer is received by interference fit on either the frame or the window or door unit. The retainer has a portion that extends to engage the other of the frame and window or door unit, and to hold the window or door unit on the frame. The frame can be rectangular, for example, and the retainer may be linear extending along at least one edge of the frame. The frame can include an outwardly opening slot, and the retainer may be received by snap fit in the slot.

Abstract: A removable window insulator preferably includes at least one pane, at least four frame members, at least four compressible seals and at least four adjusting members. At least one frame member is mitered on each end thereof. An edge seal strip is attached to an outer edge of each frame member. A single compressible seal is inserted between ends of two adjacent frame members. A single adjusting member is used to set a distance between adjacent frame members. At least one cross member may be secured in an inner perimeter of the removable window insulator. Second and third embodiments of the removable window insulator are used to seal a double window. A fourth embodiment of the removable window insulator is used to seal a window with a partially curved perimeter.

Each of the plurality of casing strips includes ends shaped to couple together to form a complete covering of a rectangular frame. The frame casing includes a clip orthogonally coupled to a side panel, and coupled to a step orthogonally, and also coupled to a face. The clip is configured to couple about a door jamb behind a weather stripping, and the face is configured to cover an exterior portion of a door frame. The frame casing kit further includes an adhesive, such that when the fluid adhesive is applied to an interior surface of a casing strip, to couple to a frame by the adhesive. The frame casing kit further includes an accessory face selectably coupleable to the face.

Abstract: A window frame insulation assembly and sealing arrangement, comprising an elongated, extruded block of foam material having a first or inner side and a second or outer side. A unitary air fin is co-extruded therewith. The air fin comprises an elongated flange of flexible foam material. The air fin and the elongated block define an elongated receiving-channel that is filled with a foam compression rod there between creating a seal for blocking air and moisture from a building in which said window frame assembly has been placed.
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a first rail coupled to a second rail, a third rail coupled to the second rail, and a fourth rail coupled to the first rail and the third rail. The apparatus may form a rectangular frame from the four rails. The rails may be coupled through use of corner connectors or may be mitered and coupled through use of brackets in an abutting relationship. Additionally, further rails may be added by interposing the additional rails between a pair of the first, second, third and fourth rails, to extend the frame, and such additions may involve connectors or abutting rails and brackets, for example. The rails may have support ledges. Alternatively, the rails may have slots allowing for support brackets which slide along the slots. Moreover, the rails may be anchored using roof anchoring components to various surfaces.

Abstract: A window assembly that includes a window frame is described. The window frame includes, in an exemplary embodiment, a plurality of frame members joined together at joints to form the frame, and a plurality of sealant blocks, with one sealant block positioned at each of the joints. Each sealant block includes an inner surface, an outer surface, an upper surface and a lower surface. The sealant block also includes a set-back ledge in the inner surface extending the length of the sealant block adjacent one of the upper surface or the lower surface. The set-back ledge is defined by a recessed portion of the inner surface and a recessed portion of the upper surface or a recessed portion of the lower surface. The sealant block further includes a plurality of filler holes extending through the sealant block from the outer surface to the recessed portion of the inner surface.
Abstract: A steel door system is disclosed. The steel door system includes a steel door, a steel door jamb, and a steel window frame. Each component of the steel door system is made with minimal materials and joints. The minimal materials and joints greatly reduce the risk of failure of the final steel door system. The steel door is made of steel door stiles and rails that are each formed of a single piece of sheet metal. The steel door jamb is made of three pieces of sheet metal, and the steel window frame is made of three pieces of sheet metal. These components are coupled together to create the finalized steel door system.
Abstract: The present invention provides for a glass barrier system including at least one post adapted to support at least one piece of glass above a base structure, such as a concrete slab or a masonry wall. The post is connected with a support member extending from the base structure. In one embodiment, aluminum posts are supported by steel members embedded into and extending from concrete so as to suspend the aluminum posts above the concrete. Some embodiments of the present invention also utilize a glazing bead to help hold the glass in place with respect to the posts. The glass barrier system can also include a rail connected with the glass.

Abstract: A floor grommet for use in building and office structures supplied with air conditioning via under floor plenum. Directed flow of conditioned air is optimized by limiting the escape of air from the plenum into the space above the floor by leakage through floor openings provided for power cables, data cables and the like. Specialized floor grommets installed in the cable openings are comprised of a surrounding frame mounting sealing elements comprised of thin, flexible elements which are anchored at one end in the grommet frame and extend toward the center of the opening, from each side, to effectively close the opening against significant flow of conditioned air from the plenum below. Cables passing through the grommet opening cause minimal deflection of the flexible elements to limit the escape of conditioned air. Preferably, the resilient, flexible elements are filamentary in nature.
