  • Patent number: 6427397
Abstract: The invention concerns an arrangement for improving the thermal insulation of windows in which the outer face of the window frame (1) is provided with a casing (5) of weatherproof material which forms a cavity (17) and has the side of the casing not adjacent the masonry (8) turned inward toward the pane of glass (3) where it is fitted with a permanently elastic gasket (10) which makes contact with the glass. The cavity is filled completely with thermal insulation material. Using the arrangement according to the invention allows a thermal transmittance value for the complete window (Uw-value) of less than 1 to be achieved.

Abstract: A door frame comprises opposed door jambs and a door head, with the jambs and head each being formed from a metal section (6) of channel-shape having a base wall (8) which carries a door stop (12) and opposed side walls (10) of a width such that when the section (6) is applied to a door opening within a wall with plasterboard sheeting (16) on the wall around the opening, the opposed side walls (10) of the section (6) will overlap and lie closely adjacent to the outer surface of the plasterboard (16) with the edge of the plasterboard (16) being concealed with the interior of the section (6), the opposed side walls (10) being perforated to permit a skim coat of plaster to be applied over the side walls (10) and adjacent part of the palsterboard (16) to conceal the presence of the side walls. In one embodiment the metal section is formed from two components which engage with a friction fit to provide width-adjustment of the section to suit walls of different width.

Abstract: A door frame clip is provided for interconnecting first and second door frame members when a longitudinal end of the first door frame member bears against a surface of the second door frame member at a portion of the surface which is adjacent to a longitudinal end of the second door frame member. The door frame clip comprises an apex, a first arm extending from the apex, and a second arm extending from the apex in a direction which is substantially orthogonal to the first arm. The second arm is significantly longer than the first arm to enable the second arm to reach the first door frame member when the apex engages an outside edge of the longitudinal end of the second door frame member. Also provided is a door frame system. The door frame system comprises a first leg member, a second leg member, a header, a first door frame clip, and a second door frame clip. The second leg member is substantially parallel to the first leg member.

Abstract: A prefabricated load-bearing header. An outer frame in the form a rectangle has four 2 by 4 boards joined together at their meetings ends at 45 degree angles. Within the inner perimeter of the outer frame are two sets of grooves extending lengthwise of each frame member. Two webbing supports extends across the opened formed inner perimeter of the frame and are joined to the inner interior of the frame near its mid point at one end and the corners at the other ends. These webbing supports provide increased strength to the frame structure. Covering the webbing supports are two sheets of chip board material cut to fit within the two sets of formed framing member grooves along the edges of the sheets. The grooves have a width approximately the same as the thickness of the sheets of chip boards which fit into them. The length of the framing members can be made to any desired length.

  • Patent number: 6209269
Abstract: An assembly system used to build two pane thermoacoustic windows for houses and buildings is provided. The assembly system uses a set of profiles and joints and a permanently installed valve to assemble the window frame without a fusion welding machine. The system creates an airtight chamber directly on the frame. The valve allows the assembler to evacuate the air in the airtight chamber to make a vacuum, or to inflow a gas. The system improves the insulating thermal and acoustic capacity of the window, and allows a supplier to sell the components to build the window, which is then assembled by snapping together profiles and joints. The system can also be applied to assembly one pane window and for other purposes.
