Interfitted Sections Patents (Class 52/519)
  • Patent number: 4272576
Abstract: The wall covering of the present invention comprises an elongated horizontal siding member having at its lower edge a U-shaped female locking flange. A separate horizontal bottom strip is adapted to be connected to the wall adjacent the lower edge of the horizontal siding member. The bottom strip includes a male locking flange sized to frictionally fit within and be retentively held in the female locking flange of the horizontal siding member. The interlocking relationship between the bottom strip and the lower edge of the siding member provides positive securement of the lower edge of the siding member to the wall.

  • Patent number: 4194335
Abstract: A prefabricated weatherproof roofing panel for new construction applicable directly to the roof rafters, or for older house construction where the existing roof and sheathing both need replacement, is described. Such prefabricated panels are complete per se and when applied by a carpenter to the roof rafters provide a completed roof construction without the need of the usual skilled roofing workman. The panels include a substrate of plywood covered with a felt sheet material saturated with asphalt. A plurality of shingle strips are secured to each panel over the felt sheet. The plywood substrates are disposed on the roof in edge-to-edge abutting relationship and the shingles of the respective panels extend over the abutting edges into an interlocking and interweaving relationship. The shingle strips of each panel are incised at there bottom edges to form a plurality of tabs.

  • Patent number: 4139974
Abstract: The side-by-side panels of a standing T-rib roof can be provided in any necessary lengths due to a smooth telescopically interfitting arrangement lengthwise between adjacent panel sections. One end portion of each panel section is tapered without cutting or crimping the metal thereof and when slipped endwise into the untapered end portion of another panel section forms a smooth slip joint of uniform cross sectional dimensions in relation to the complete assembled panel. An improved clip for attaching roof panels to underlying purlins features a vertical standoff space between the clip attaching feet and lateral panel support branches thereabove so that a thermal insulation blanket can be placed in the stand-off space. This vertical stand-off space greatly decreases the thermal conductivity of the metal roof and, therefore, increases the thermal value.

  • Patent number: 4104841
Abstract: An interlocking siding or roofing strip or slat assembly for covering the surface of a building which may be susceptible of being crushed or deformed by the application of excessive force to a fastening element such as a nail. The slat assembly includes a fastening tab, a panel, an anchoring configuration intermediate the panel and the fastening tab and a hook-like configuration integral with the bottom of the panel for operatively engaging the anchoring configuration of a previously-installed slat assembly for interlocking them one above the other in a partially overlapping manner.

  • Patent number: 4096011
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an exterior facing layer for vinyl siding, including molding a pattern of depressions and protuberances into a sheet of a thermoplastic polymer simulating cedar shake shingles, and concurrently molding an extension to the molded plank incorporating an integrally molded hinge connection. Thereafter, the extension is folded over the plank edge in a mechanical bending sequence and bonded thereto. In another embodiment of the invention, a foam filler material may be poured into the molded facing layer cavities and a metallic foil backing bonded thereto so as to form a laminar siding construction.

  • Patent number: 4054012
Abstract: A starter strip and siding strip combination comprises a siding strip of the kind having a hooked lower edge. The starter strip consists of an upper nailing portion having a downwardly-outwardly-extending main flange projecting from its front face and a return retainer flange extending horizontally from the main flange toward the front face, the free end tip of the return flange being rounded. The hooked lower edge of the first siding strip can be engaged with the flanges while in a horizontal orientation, in which the siding strip floats freely and can easily be moved sideways for adjustment. The siding strip can then be rotated into the vertical position against the associated structure and nailed thereto, without the possibility of disengagement from the starter strip, either during installation or during subsequent expansion and contraction of the siding by daily and seasonal temperature changes.
