  • Patent number: 8466211
Abstract: A one-part, self-etching dental adhesive having improved performance such as adhesion performance with a simple one-coat application, without the need of separate acid-etching, a priming pre-treatment, or bonding step. The invention provides such improvements due to a function of the pH balance of the system in combination with an acid stable photoinitiating system. More specifically, the performance and pH balance is achieved through the employment of a hydrolytically stable, acidic, high-strength adhesive monomer (such as PENTA), with a stable, bifunctional, hydrophilic monomer (such as AHPMA) that yields greater crosslinking.

In some embodiments, the polymerizable ionic liquid is a monofunctional polymerizable ionic liquid comprising an ethylenically unsaturated group. In other embodiments, the polymerizable ionic liquid is a multi-functional polymerizable ionic liquid comprising at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups. The curable dental compositions describe herein can be utilized as dental primers, dental adhesives, dental sealants, and dental composites. In many embodiments, the curable dental compositions further comprise an initiator such as a photoinitiator.

Abstract: The present inventions in various aspects provide elastic biodegradable polymers. In various embodiments, the polymers are formed by the reaction of a multifunctional alcohol or ether and a difunctional or higher order acid to form a pre-polymer, which is cross-linked to form the elastic biodegradable polymer. In preferred embodiments, the cross-linking is performed by functionalization of one or more OR groups on the pre-polymer backbone with vinyl, followed by photopolymerization to form the elastic biodegradable polymer composition or material. Preferably, acrylate is used to add one or more vinyls to the backbone of the pre-polymer to form an acrylated pre-polymer. In various embodiments, acrylated pre-polymers are co-polymerized with one or more acrylated co-polymers.

  • Patent number: 8293838
Abstract: A stable and sterile adhesive composition with a controlled level of high viscosity is disclosed in the present invention. Adhesive compositions with different ranges of viscosity could be prepared by heating the adhesive monomer composition at mild temperature in the presence of pluronic polymer. The viscosity of the adhesive composition is able to be controlled to any desired level. A method of stabilizing the adhesive composition with a desired level of high viscosity is provided by using the combination of free radical and acid stabilizers. Methods for packaging, sterilizing and applying the adhesive in the medical field are also provided.
