Abstract: A process for preparing an RPET polymer blend component comprises providing a quantity of RPET flakes, comminuting the RPET flakes to prepare RPET particles having an average mean particle size from about 500 microns to about 5 microns, adding at least one specialty additive to the RPET particles, and mixing the RPET particles and specialty additive, to prepare a homogeneous blend of RPET carrier and specialty additive.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellulose acylate film having a high modulus of elasticity and a high surface hardness. The cellulose acylate film of the present invention is characterized by containing 1 vol % to 99 vol % of a metal oxide having an average particle size of 1 nm to 400 nm. The metal oxide used here is preferably a metal oxide having a Mohs hardness of at least 7, and specific examples thereof include aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide. This metal oxide may be subjected to a surface treatment. Furthermore, a functional thin film such as a hardcoat layer may be formed on the cellulose acylate film containing the metal oxide.
Abstract: The polyolefin resin composition of the present invention includes 100 parts by weight polypropylene, 5 to 45 parts by weight inorganic filler, and 2 to 20 parts by weight silicon-grafted polyethylene. The polyolefin resin composition of the present invention is useful as a material of construction for various kinds of housings for electronic appliances and automobile parts since the resin exhibits better scratch resistance, resin fluidity, and moldability than prior art polyolefin resin compositions while maintaining mechanical properties.

Abstract: The invention relates to a powdery pigment preparation containing a pigment which is dispersed in an acrylate resin and which is characterized in that the acrylate resin has an average molar mass Mw ranging from 40000 to 80000 g/mol and is a copolymer comprised of 50 to 65 mol % ethyl methacrylate, of 30 to 45 mol % butyl methacrylate, and of 0.5 to 5 mol % methacrylic acid. The powdery pigment preparation can be used for dying films, particularly those made of polymethyl methacrylate. The films do not have any specks nor holes.

Abstract: According to an aspect of the invention, a polymerized form of formaldehyde is available in granular form containing a polymerized form of formaldehyde, such as paraformaldehyde, a buffer, such as sodium phosphate dibasic anhydrous, and a stabilizer, such as hydroxymethyl cellulose, or hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose. When added to an aqueous solvent, the paraformaldehyde can dissolve in alkaline solution, and depolymerizes into a formaldehyde solution containing a stabilizer. Abstract: The present invention concerns polymers obtained by anionic initiation and bearing functions that can be activated by cationic initiations that are not reactive in the presence of anionic polymerization initiators. The presence of such cationic initiation functions allow an efficient cross-linking of the polymer after moulding, particularly in the form of a thin film. It is thus possible to obtain polymers with well-defined properties in terms of molecular weight and cross-linking density. Abstract: A malleable high density polymer material having a high density metal component and a polymer phase consisting of a rigid or hard component, and an elastomeric modifier for the hard component, and where the elastomeric component is chosen from one of several narrow molecular weight distribution ethylene/alpha-olefin elastomers. One advantage of the present invention is to achieve a surprisingly malleable, high density material that has unusual melt properties which may be used as a lead substitute in the making of for example, projectiles, shot, or angling weights. Another advantage of the present invention is to provide a lead substitute that is non-toxic.
Abstract: Reagents to cause swelling of coarsely ground vulcanized rubber, and a method of using the reagents is disclosed. Reagents which cause rubber to swell but which do not attack or react with rubber include various hydrocarbons, ketones and lactones. Specifically useful are benzene, cyclohexanone, cyclohexane, toluene, xylene, hexane, heptane, acetone, gasoline, paramethadione, ethyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone and amyl acetate. It is taught that specific reagents work most effectively with specific types of rubbers, and that mixtures of reagents, preferably reagents having the same polarity, may be used. The reagent of the present invention is mixed with the coarsely ground rubber powder for about five minutes or more, causing the rubber particles to approximately double in size. Preferably, the reagent is substantially fully absorbed by the rubber. The swollen rubber is then suitable for further processing, namely, grinding into a superfine powder.

Abstract: An adsorbent to an aromatic hydroxy compound, which comprises composite metal oxide solid solution particles of the following formula (1) or hydrotalcite-like composite metal hydroxide particles of the following formula (2), and a method of removing an aromatic hydroxy compound in a solvent by using the adsorbent.

Abstract: Provided is a dye composition for keratinous fibers, which comprises (A) a hydrolyzate of a lower alkyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer partially crosslinked with a terminal unsaturated diene compound, or a monoalkyl ester of the hydrolyzate; and (B) a dye.
The dye composition for keratinous fibers according to the present invention has a stable and appropriate viscosity even in a wide pH range and even in a system containing a salt or solvent at a high concentration; and has excellent usability and dyeing properties. It is particularly suited for use with an acid dye.
Abstract: A polyamide composition comprising 100 parts by weight of (A) a semiaromatic polyamide having dicarboxylic acid units mainly composed of aromatic dicarboxylic acid units and diamine units mainly composed of aliphatic diamine units having 4 to 14 carbon atoms and containing not more than 15 &mgr;eq/g of terminal amino groups; and 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of (B) a copper compound.
Abstract: Herein is disclosed an oxygen barrier composition comprising ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH), an oxygen scavenging polymer, and a transition metal salt. The composition can be in the form of a physical blend or a cross-linked blend, and can further comprise a compatibilizer, a transesterification catalyst, or both. Also disclosed is a packaging article comprising at least one high oxygen barrier layer comprising the blend of EVOH, the oxygen scavenging polymer, and the transition metal salt. The packaging article can be a single-layer or a multilayer article, and can be flexible or rigid. A multilayer packaging article can further comprise a structural layer or layers, an oxygen barrier layer, an oxygen scavenging layer, an oxygen permeable layer or layers, or an adhesive layer or layers, among others. In addition, herein is disclosed a method of making the blend of EVOH, the oxygen scavenging polymer, and the transition metal salt, comprising providing and blending the materials.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing saturated polyester used in various molded products, such as films, synthetic fibers, vessels and housings. In particular, the method improves mechanical properties, including tensile strength or impact resistance, of saturated polyester. In DMT method or TPA method, the saturated polyester is synthesized through transesterification or esterification and polycondensation, in which metal compounds, such as metal acetate compounds, metal hydroxides, and metal oxides, are added in the larger amounts upon synthesis, and thus crystalline internal grains are formed, thereby improving the mechanical properties. As such, the metal compound can be used alone or in combination with a phosphorous-based compound.
Abstract: A paste composition having a high thermal conductivity and a relatively low viscosity is used to provide a thermal conductive connection between an electronic component and a cooling device to increase the heat transfer rate between the component and the device cooling the electronic component. The paste composition comprises a non-aqueous dielectric carrier, thermally conductive filler particles and a specially defined dispersant comprising the self-condensation reaction product of a hydroxy fatty acid, the reaction product having an acid number of about 30-100. A 12-hydroxy stearic acid self condensed reaction product is the preferred dispersant.
