Abstract: Optically active polymers that are composed of monomer residues derived from chiral pre-polymerized monomers, which maintain the chirality of the pre-polymerized monomers upon polymerization are disclosed. Abstract: The present invention uses hydrophobically modified polyaminamide with standard wet strength agent to produce a softer and more absorbent paper material. The hydrophobically modified polyaminamide is substantive to cellulosic fibers, thus is able to carry polyethylene glycol esters or ethers, a non-substantive material to cellulosic fiber as stable complexes, into the paper product.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a high molecular weight, monoesterified polyimide polymer. Such high molecular weight, monoesterified polyimide polymers are useful in forming crosslinked polymer membranes for the separation of fluid mixtures. According to its broadest aspect, the method of making a crosslinked membrane comprises the following steps: (a) preparing a polyimide polymer comprising carboxylic acid functional groups from a reaction solution comprising monomers and at least one solvent; (b) treating the polyimide polymer with a diol at esterification conditions in the presence of dehydrating conditions to form a monoesterified polyimide polymer; and (c) subjecting the monoesterified fiber to transesterification conditions to form a crosslinked fiber membrane, wherein the dehydrating conditions at least partially remove water produced during step (b). The crosslinked membranes can be used to separate at least one component from a feed stream including more than one component.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical unit and light guide plate and ink thereof. The ink includes a base resin and a plurality of fine particles. The base resin has a first refractive index. The fine particles have a second refractive index and are dispersed in the base resin. The fine particles are made of organic polymer. The difference between the first refractive index and second refractive index is less than 0.15. The use of the ink will lower the color difference and the variation of color temperature of the light guide plate or the optical unit.
Abstract: A curable composition is described, including a gel material derived from the curable composition, and medical articles including such material, wherein the transparent gel material includes a polymerized monofunctional poly(alkylene oxide) macromonomer component and a surface modified nanoparticle component.

Abstract: A ceramic matrix composite precursor slurry composition includes a thermosetting resin, a suitable curing agent, a ceramic component, a carbonaceous solids component, and optionally, a suitable solvent. The thermosetting resin may be a polyester, a vinyl ester, an epoxy resin, a bismaleimide resin, and/or a polyamide resin. The carbonaceous solids component provides a suitable amount of carbon char upon pyrolization. The precursor slurry composition may comprise up to about 70 volume % solids after removal of the solvent, and prior to cure. A sheet molding compound first and second outer films comprising the precursor slurry composition and randomly dispersed reinforcing material carried between the first and second outer films.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for preparing a near infrared shielding masterbatch. The method includes the steps of preparing and compounding a composition, and then pelletizing the compounded composition. The composition includes at least one metallic ionic compound powder in an amount of about 1-25 wt %, a cross-linking agent in an amount of about 0.1-5 wt %, a thermoplastic polymer in an amount of about 67-98.7 wt %, an initiator in an amount of about 0.1-1 wt %, and a dispersing agent in an amount of about 0.1-2 wt %.
