The processes of the invention broadly provide for the steps of contacting a silane monomer with a phase transfer catalyst in the presence of a reaction mixture that includes a nonpolar, e.g., hydrocarbon, solvent, and a polar solvent, e.g., alcohol and water. The process is conducted under conditions effective to catalytically convert said silane monomer into hydridosiloxane and organohydridosiloxane resins. Recovery of the products is advantageously aided by the ease of separating the phase transfer catalyst from the dual phase reaction mixture by separating the immiscible polar solvent carrying the catalyst from the nonpolar solvent, that carries the product. Hydridosiloxane and organohydridosiloxane resins produced by the processes of the invention are also provided.

Articles are coated on a surface thereof with a hydrophobic coating reactant or reaction product which forms a coating having an exposed surface populated with 30% by area or more terminal trifluoromethyl groups.

  • Patent number: 6639025
Abstract: Elastomer-modified Epoxy-polysiloxane compositions of this invention are prepared by combining a silicone intermediate, with an epoxy resin, an elastomeric resinous intermediate, a polyfunctional amine, an optional organometallic catalyst, and optional fillers, pigments, and processing agents. The composition is prepared using a sufficient amount of water to promote hydrolysis of the polysiloxane and the polycondensation of the silanols produced by such hydrolysis. In its cured form, the epoxy-polysiloxane composition exists as a uniformly dispersed arrangement of linear epoxy chain fragments that are cross-linked with a continuous polysiloxane polymer chain, wherein either or both of the epoxy and/or polysiloxane polymers are elastomer modified to provide coatings and floorings having significantly improved properties of impact resistance, flexibility, crack resistance, and abrasion resistance with compared to conventional epoxy systems.
