  • Patent number: 7140163
Abstract: A lower foil formed with upwardly open filled pockets passes horizontally at a constant transport speed through a work station of a machine frame. A support table holds an upper tool immediately above the foil in the station. A double parallelogrammatic linkage has two upper pivots on the support table, two lower pivots on the machine frame, and two upright links pivoted on the upper and lower pivot. A table drive mounted on the frame includes a crank connected to the link for oscillating the link about the lower pivot and thereby reciprocating the support table generally in the transport direction. A lower tool is carried by guides on the support table for only vertical movement relative to the support table. A tool drive mounted on the frame includes another crank connected to the lower tool for reciprocating the lower tool vertically relative to the support table.

  • Patent number: 6718732
Abstract: A capping device and method for installing overcaps onto a plurality of aerosol cans moving on a manufacturing line is disclosed. The capping device has a pressure plate with a cap contact surface on one side and a bearing surface on an opposite side. The contact surface is oriented to face overcaps that are rested on a plurality of aerosol cans moving past the pressure plate on the manufacturing line. The contact surface is rotated about an axis so that an installation segment of the contact surface moves in concert with the plurality of aerosol cans. A pressure wheel has a rotatable circumferential surface arranged to bear against a part of the pressure plate to further bear the installation segment into contact with the overcaps of the plurality of aerosol cans. As the cans move past the pressure wheel and plate, the overcaps are installed on the aerosol cans by force applied via the installation segment of the contact surface that is moving along with the cans.

A pressure plate is disposed on the planar sealing member for applying thereto pressure effective to locally flow the viscous fluid to enable the sealing member to seal the varying levels of the cavity openings to thereby prevent evaporation of the liquid stored in the cavities.

Abstract: An improved capsule transport tray for use in the curing chamber of capsule sealing and banding machines is disclosed. The trays have hemispherical recesses which thereby support the capsules at their ends, thereby keeping the midportion of the capsules where the sealing and banding solutions have been applied, from touching the support surface. An air port or opening at the bottom of each recess insures better circulation of the heated air in the curing chamber about each respective capsule.

Abstract: A manipulating apparatus closes a standard barrel by picking up a lid, positioning it in the correct position above the barrel, pressing the lid onto the barrel, picking up a clamping ring, placing it in its spread-open state around the barrel top, and locking the clamping ring so as to retain the lid. The manipulating apparatus can also be used to open a closed barrel by moving a pivot member beneath the clamping lever of the clamping ring, rotating the pivot member to unlock the clamping ring, gripping the clamping ring, removing it while it is spread open, depositing the clamping ring at some convenient location, gripping the lid, removing the lid from the barrel, and depositing the lid. The manipulating apparatus is provided with three support arms (3-5) which form a support unit (1) which is movable horizontally and vertically by a guide unit (28) together with a central carrier (2) which projects beyond the support arms.

Abstract: Bags having a spout opening defined by a spout edge surface affixed within the bags are sealed with a spout closure membrane first by pressing the closure membrane against the spout edge surface with a cooled plate. A heating unit which includes a heating element, which has a surface which corresponds in size and shape with the spout edge surface, then is moved adjacent the cooled plate to heat a portion of the cooled plate for sealing the closure membrane to the spout edge surface. After heating the closure membrane for sealing the spout edge surface to the closure membrane, the heating element is moved away from the plate whereby the heated portion of the plate then cools and cools the seal. After the seal is cooled, the plate then is moved away from the sealed spout and bag.

Abstract: A web of heat-sealable film is advanced in overlying relation with filled cups to a sealing station where both the web and the cups dwell momentarily. During the dwell period, sealing heads advance downwardly and seal the web to the upper end portions of the cups. The heads are advanced downwardly with a two-step stroke, the heads first advancing in unision with a carriage and then being individually advanced by individual pneumatic actuators which are mounted on the carriage. After being sealed, the cups are indexed to a cutting station where annular knives are advanced downwardly to cut through the web and leave each cup with a circular sealing membrane. • Patent number: 4982555
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for the sealing of a container (10) by means of a wafer (20). The container comprises one or more joining means (14, 16) which are adapted so that by a joint (12), e.g. a welding joint, they are connected in a leakproof manner, to the wafer in an edge zone (21) of the same. The wafer is held against a contact surface (32) of a retaining means so as to be moved by the same until it rests in its edge zone (21) against anyone of the joining means (14, 16). While the contact with the retaining means is maintained, the wafer is connected by a fixing means (50) in its edge zone in a leakproof manner to anyone of the joining means through the fixing means supplying energy to the edge zone so that a joint (12) is formed. The invention makes it possible to fix in a leakproof manner a previously cut wafer to the opening part of a container.

  • Patent number: 4888935
Abstract: A dished foil lid is secured to a container having a flange at its top by placing the lid over the open top of the container with the periphery of the foil on the flange and the dished portion of the lid extending downwardly into the container, and by applying a heating tool to the exterior of the foil adjacent the inner edge of the top of the container. The heating tool preferably has a tapered tip portion so that when it is urged into the depression formed by the dished portion of the lid, the side surfaces of the tip bear against the part of the foil adjacent to the inner edge of the top of the container. The time, temperature and pressure of application of the tip are such as to cause the adjacent inner edge of the container to soften and, upon subsequent removal of the tool, a narrow seal is formed between lid and container at the inner edge of the top of the container. The resultant seal is not only uniform and hermetic, but is easily parted when one later peels off the lid.
