The shield creates a clean zone in the clean room having a higher class rating than the clean room rating without the use of additional HEPA filters and without the use of traditional laminar flow hoods.

    Abstract: Room air is pulled from an inlet into a pre-filter duct and moved therethrough and through a main filter duct to an outlet in the room or some other location. The flow path is through a pre-filter unit, blower, germicidal light unit, and HEPA or ULPA filter unit to the outlet. Each of the units is readily replaceable and is furnished with a bio bag. The ducts have access openings in the duct wall at the unit locations. The access openings have flanged collars, with removable covers thereon. For installation of a unit, the bio bag is opened and secured to the flange, followed by removal of the flange cover. Then the unit is installed in the duct, the cover re-installed on the flange, and the bag rolled up in place, still attached to the flange, and remains so during operation of the apparatus and during removal of the unit at the end of its useful life, and then is used to encapsulate the used unit for disposal of the unit, to protect the service personnel from exposure to contaminants.

The filters are arranged both side-by-side and end-to-end in closely adjacent relation to present an essentially continuous, downwardly facing surface forming all or part of the overhead boundary of a space wherein downward, laminar air flow is provided. The filter units are sealed to one another, or to the adjacent walls, continuously around the periphery at the lower ends by caulking material which is injected from below into the spaces between the units to provide a totally sealed system, whereby the only path for air to enter the room is from above through the high efficiency filter media.

A low pressure, high volume pulse apparatus (10) is operable through blowpipe (148) to sequentially provide a low pressure reverse pulse to a column of filter elements (142) thereby separating any dust cake from them and allowing it to fall into conical portion (106) for removal from collector (100) by air lock (108). The motor (158) which rotates blowpipe (148) also disengageably rotates clean air drum (140) and attached filter elements (142) to align a column of filter elements (142) with door assembly (114) for maintenance.

    Abstract: An assembly is provided for securing a pair of filter supports to support structure defined by the casing of an air handling unit and for selectively providing flanges for securing a duct to the casing. The filter support includes a filter channel having a channel portion for securing a filter and having a flange portion. The filter support may be mounted in a first position with the flange portion not extending beyond the end of the unit and in a second position with the flange portion extending beyond the end of the unit for promoting connections to a duct. Additionally, duct angles are provided having flanges extending therefrom. The duct angles are mounted to have the flanges extend inwardly when the filter channel does not extend beyond the unit and are mounted to extend outwardly to coact with the flange portions of the filter channels when it is desired to connect a duct to the unit.

The tubes or bags are horizontally insertable into the dust-removing chamber through the perforations of the partition and are sealed at their open ends to the clean gas side of the partition while their closed ends are supported on the rear wall of the casing.In accordance with the invention, parallel vertical guide members, each having a surface which slopes with respect to a rear wall of the casing, are secured to the inner side of the rear wall of the casing. One guide member is disposed between two adjacent filter tubes or bags. The filter tubes or bags rest on support bars adjacent the rear wall of the casing, which engage said guide members.
